All the cool kids were doing it and I wanted to fit in. :( I like drawing! I draw a lot of stuff, mostly for my comic and Pokemon.

My webcomic is called Slightly Damned and you can read it here (http://sdamned.com) at your own risk. Be warned that it can be pretty sappy and I started it nearly 7 years ago when I was still in high school. It shows. I update it every Saturday (or more, on special occasions) and I've kept up with it ever since. Here's a sample page:

http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/212/d/d/Slightly_Damned_396_by_raizy.png
(The comic is currently undergoing a style change; the colors are now much less saturated.)

This is my deviantArt page. (http://raizy.deviantart.com) I also have a FurAffinity account! (http://www.furaffinity.net/user/the-chu/) You can find my stuff there, like:

I'm loving everything you put up.

EDIT: I think I like the dinner bear best. She is awfully fierce for being someone's meal. Also I want to apologize for defacing your artwork. It takes a lot to share personal work with strangers and only one insensitive prick to make you feel bad. So I'm sorry about that.

Thanks, guys! :D Yeah, the t-rex picture was a surprise hit on my dA as well. Most people watch me for Pokemon and Slightly Damned, so I didn't think that something that falls outside those two themes would go over well. Now it's the most popular thing in my gallery. I can't take credit for the idea, though; I asked friend A what I should draw friend B for her birthday, and that's what A suggested.

Here's a Slowbro for an unrelated friend as a prize for placing second in my comic's community Pokemon Tournament:

Oh, and do you guys remember the design I submitted to Patch Together to be made into a figurine?
http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/348/9/e/rhea_snaketail_figure_design_by_raizy-d34uq3a.png

It got approved for production a couple of weeks ago, and they've been working on the prototype since. Just the other day I finally got some photographs of it in progress:

Chu

Yup, PT is still taking pre-orders. They told me that they would finish the prototype, put photos of it up on the site, and then keep taking pre-orders for a limited time after that.

I was asked to draw art to be featured in the book for Antheria Con in LA last year. I drew these guys way back in August 2010 for that purpose, but I never did find out if they were used. Oh well.

The theme for the con and its book or whatever was ancient Greece/Rome. I tried to choose animals that weren't often, uh, anthro'd, I guess: a ram, a tortoise, and a swan.

Also, I got some updated photos of the figurine prototype. I asked for her tail to be moved own so she could have better balance:

Chu, I think I need to get in touch with you re: making a dino/shark/bear/unicorn shirt. I don't even wear shirts with designs on them and yet I need this, I need this in my life SO BAD.

... actually, I may just want to needlepoint it onto a bag. However! This does not change the fact that you will be hearing from me once I get a job, oh yes.

Chu
01-25-2011, 02:55 AM
Man, I'd love to see a needlepoint version. I'm not sure if the marker art would carry over well onto Cafepress or Zazzle-produced shirt. Perhaps someday I should redraw it and submit it to w00t or Threadless or something?

Chu
02-01-2011, 05:59 AM
Hmm, I'm definitely going to have to do the t-shirt thing whenever I have more free time. The question is, is it better to submit to Threadless or w00t? Will they even accept such a submission? Eh, I guess I'll cross that bridge if I come to it.

In the meantime:

[Original submission, larger size available] (http://raizy.deviantart.com/art/Hyena-Family-194711498)
Some character art for a new comic/story/whatever I won't be able to do for years and years and years (if I ever do it at all). I just drew these prototype designs 'cause I felt like it.

Lastly, an OC meme including art from 2003-2011:
http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/025/e/1/oc_evolution_meme___sd_trio_by_raizy-d3801at.png
[Original submission] (http://raizy.deviantart.com/art/OC-Evolution-Meme-SD-Trio-194837141)
If all goes well, I'll hate the art I'm doing now in 8 more years!

Oh, and you know those Greco-Roman characters I drew for that con book? Turns out all three of them made it in. On the one hand, my art is featured in the same book as Stan Sakai. On the other hand, my art is featured in the same book as "Barroness Boob Squish" (sic) and some other art by furries who just couldn't completely meet the request for family-safe art. Nothing terribly explicit, but the wolf who nursed Romulus and Remus shouldn't look like that aaaaahh

I'm already part-way finished building it, too - all I need to do is catch a Latias and train the Unova guys and I'm ready to roll. Well, at least until Garchomp's DW ability gets released, that is; Sand Veil isn't very handy with a Rain Poke on the team. Not that I mind! Gym building: it's fun.

Thanks again for doing these comissions, Chu!

No problemo, thank you!

So last month a friendquaintence of mine commissioned me to draw all the djiin from Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. Things kept coming up and I haven't made as much progress on it as I'd have liked by now, but I did get the Venus and Mercury djinn done:
http://raizap.com/extradraw/goofydjinn-venus.png

http://raizap.com/extradraw/goofydjinn_mercury.png

When they're all done I'll have them all in one image and slightly bigger. Those are just previews. Next up: the Mars djinn! I'll try to get them done by the end of the weekend, and the Jupiter djinn done by the end of the month.

Also, it's taken approximately 4 months, but Patch Together finished the prototype of my figurine:
http://sdamned.com/protopaint1.jpg

http://sdamned.com/protopaint2.jpg

http://sdamned.com/protopaint3.jpg

They told me that they'll be taking pre-orders until April 11 (http://www.patchtogether.com/store/rhea-snaketail-219.html). I assume after April 11 they'll produce and ship only enough figurines to fill the pre-orders they received, and then that's it... unless it's popular enough for a rerun. The process took a bit longer than I expected (but not unreasonably so, all things considered) and I wish they explained everything they needed better on the site, but I'm glad that this is really happening. If anyone else is interested in the Patch Together figurine process, feel free to ask me any questions.

I'll be sure to keep huge versions of the finished drawings around in case anyone wants to use them for wallpapers or whatever. I know another friendquaintence of mine wanted to print them out to put on his wall.

I was pleasantly surprised that all the djinn looked different in Dark Dawn, too. I didn't know until I was commissioned to draw them, actually. I've had Dark Dawn since shortly after it released, but I only recently started to play it. The game is not without its issues (long-winded characters talking about nothing and endless emoticon spam), but the production value and presentation are amazing. You can really tell the game was a work of love.

Consider slowing down your extra idle animations (the ones that happen only occasionally) - they look a little spastic right now. Of course, adding more frames could look even nicer, but obviously that's a lot more work.

Otherwise, those are adorable.

Chu
04-21-2011, 05:45 AM
If you're talking about the woodcut-looking ones, those don't take very much time at all, which is why I make so many. Not counting all the time I spent chatting and browsing, I think the Eevee evolution one I did up there took me about three hours. Most of the pictures on this page took between 1-3 hours to make, although I can and have wasted entire days making pages of my comic (http://sdamned.com). Sometimes I feel really speedy and efficient with my drawing, and other days it feels like it takes me years to draw an eyeball.

Re: the Rhea figurine
I e-mailed Patch Together a while back and they told me that they would try to ship them this summer. They didn't get any more specific than that, unfortunately. It sounds like they try to consolidate all their figurine production and shipments and take care of everything all at once? I guess that means if you pre-ordered more than one design, and they both got approved, they would be shipped to you and arrive around the same time, even if their approval and pre-order cutoff dates were different.

Apparently circumcised ones! But really, I think the flare on the end just makes it look slightly more phallic than the average gun (and let's face it - most guns are pretty phallic). It's the gooey drip that really draws the attention to it in this pic. But again, I'm saying this only as observation, not criticism, especially since...

Thanks! Too bad (sort of) that having a cartoon character on an alcohol label is illegal. :P
I forgot to mention that the German slogan translates to, "The weapon against thirst and frustration." My friends helped me come up with and translate it. :D

I don't expect that design to sell too well, but I was moved to make it because of how many times people would misspell "angel". I-it's kind of depressing, really.

Anyway, here's some commissions I drew recently!

I (mostly) figured it out myself (and confirmed with google translate)! Just learning some German...

Also, if that's actually a law, I've seen some beer labels skirting it pretty hard. You can certainly have illustrated creatures, so it must be a pretty subjective line.

I don't know what the actual law is called, but I think it's related to that whole "Joe Camel" fiasco in the 90s with the cigarettes. It's also why Pixar couldn't make a Ratatouille-tie-in wine label featuring Remy.

My friends joked that I should just make the character look like a realistic wolf, so maybe in the future... ;)

I haven't been drawing much besides commissions, vote incentives, and pages for my webcomic lately. I noticed my art thread slipped off the front page, though, so I did want to update it with something to show that I haven't been slacking off with my drawing!

One big change that happened is that I decided to start updating my comic twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I was planning to do it sooner, but I kept procrastinating. I certainly could have picked a better time to start...

(#467)

http://www.deviantart.com/download/272793016/slightly_damned_472_by_raizy-d4iewfs.png
(#472)

...before the backgrounds became so intense. Drawing real backgrounds is hard! :(

Also, a really cool thing that happened: a reader of my comic invited me to draw artwork for the Anime Los Angeles convention booklet. I ended up not doing it because I procrastinated and then got taken out for a week by a really terrible migraine (apparently caused by pressure changes in the weather). But! Because they needed someone to do it, I volunteered to color Stan Sakai's artwork for the convention! I colored a group shot of Usagi Yojimbo characters for the badge, a picture of Usagi and the convention mascot riding a cat for the t-shirt, and two other pictures of just Usagi.

It made me really happy that I was able to color the work of someone I admire. Even if I wasn't paid for it and even if Mr. Sakai doesn't know/care who the heck I am. I'm assuming I'm not allowed to share said artwork here or on any other website, but still! I'm happy with the way the pictures turned out, so maybe after the convention I can show them off. :)

There was a mistake and my name was omitted from the art book for coloring his stuff. I made a big stink about it, and to their credit the con staff apologized and offered me a free pass for next year, a Chips Ahoy! package, a "Sorry" ribbon, and introduced me to Stan Sakai during his autograph session. Stan Sakai is a super nice guy! He shook my hand, complimented me on my coloring, and signed my badge.
