So I was going through my OCRemix (http://www.ocremix.org/) folder and realized I haven't been to the site in quite a long time.

I was wondering what some of your favorites are. I am looking for some new tracks to put on my Sansa and need some suggestions. I haven't been to the site in probably a year so I know there are plenty good ones I have missed.

My favorites

Zenobia's Grave/A Champion Has Risen (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00897/)
Dr. Wily Haunts Flashman (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00704/)
Legendary Strings (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00829/)
Wickedest Child (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00252/)

I probably have a few others, but these are the few I remember off-hand.

Too many to name, but of the more recent stuff they've put up I greatly enjoy Detestation's Doorway (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01611/), Vampire Spanker (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01606/), Tattered Slippers (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01591/), Cantata for Dancing: I. Mors ego sum mortis (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01582/), and Snowfall on Forbidden Lands (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01586/).

I love playing an old game for the first time and going to OCRemix to see what people have done with the music. A decent portion of my library has come from this site.

Edit: Sorry for the strange formatting

Dammit, you had to start the topic on the day I leave my iPod in the car and can't check the titles of the remixes I like :(

On the other hand, this is just as well. I have FAR TOO MANY favorites, so all I can do is list those whose titles I can actually remember off the top of my head. Still quite a few, though:

Wicked Orchestra (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00122/) (CV "Wicked Child." Indalecio already mentioned my other favorite remix of this theme, Wickedest Child)
Circuit Breaker (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00523/) (Elecman theme)
It's About Time (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01071/) (Flashman theme)
Tickle my Wily (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01105/) (Wily Castle 1)
A Clockwork Vampire (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01401/) (CV3 Clock Tower theme)
Pools of Rust (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01259/) (CV3... Forest theme, I think)
Phoenix Symphonic (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01199/) (FFIV airship)
Surface of the Moon (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00354/) (FFIV, self-explanatory)
Rachel's Gift (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00990/) (FFVI, "Forever Rachel")
Return of the Phoenix (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01309/) (FFVI "Decisive Battle")
Seized with Fury (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01356/) (FFVI battle mix)
Squaresoft Variation (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01130/) (Terra's theme, arranged by Secret of Evermore/Elder Scrolls: Oblivion composer Jeremy Soule)
Terra in Black (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00206/) (Another Terra theme)
This Heart (http://www.ocremix.org/game/seiken-densetsu-3-snes/) (Seiken Densetsu 3 "Delicate Affection")
The Trial in Concert (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00800/) (CT, the trial)

The best thing about this topic is that, in seeking out the URLs and reading what other people posted, I found that there are plenty of new remixes I had never seen or heard before. I'll have to get to downloading as soon as I get home.

I'll second The Ken Song and Seized with Fury.

A few more favorites that haven't been mentioned:

Atonement (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01377/) (Frog and Magus' Theme)

Jethro and Vash at the Fair (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01029/) (another CT, done like Jethro Tull)

Advance with Caution (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01302/) (First level of Bionic Commando)

Nothing but a Pile of Dance Moves! (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01576/)(Cheesy SotN)

Crystalline Caverns (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00860/) (Yoshi's Island caves)

Braving Tal Tal Heights (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01020/) (Link's Awakening and self-explanatory)

Ok, I'll stop now.

It's a little unfortunate I guess, but I really only make an effort to really enjoy a mix if it's extremely unusual, has an amazing source track, or is by somebody I really like (or the occasional all three).

Landstalker 'Rare Mineral Addict' (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01380/) - I recommend basically everything by this guy (although Mucho Dollar is kinda boring to me for some reason) but I don't want to just list his stuff, since I know how ridiculously much I love his music. I have all the original works he posted to his website (they're even cooler than his remixes generally) and the album he played piano for his sister's vocals on.

Earthbound Dreaming on Distant Shores (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01234/) and Twoson Hits the Road (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01427/) - I don't like Earthbound as much as anyone else, but the music is awesome. 'Dreaming' I listened to for days on end, with nothing else. The Twoson mix is powerfully emotional in my opinion, and djpretzel's recent tracks have continued the trend. Plus I really dig the folksy style.

Mario Paint 'Intense Color' (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01461/)and Mario 64 'Spinlock' (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01583/)
Two of the three mario series remixes I really like, and they're similar in a way. I can't describe these mixes, they are must listens.

Wild Arms 2 'Lord Blazer' (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01470/), Parasite Eve 'PMS' (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01543/) and Tsugunai 'Static Wonderland (http://www.ocremix.org/game/tsugunai-atonement-ps2/) - ktriton does this weird jazz stuff that is going to make him my new favorite remixer if he keeps putting stuff out, with these three pieces being...uhh, better than the other two. I don't know which I would say is my favorite because they're all that good.

finally, Bahamut Lagoon 'Dragons of Paradise' (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00919/) - this was one of the first remixes I ever listened to, and still one of my favorites. The soundtrack is in my opinion pretty underrated, and even though the mix leans on a kind of cheesy gimmick I love it.

Indeed! I have literally only listened to one song on OCRemix (One Girl in All the World (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01048/)) and despite digging it, felt intimidated about delving deeper due to the excessively large number of songs. Nice to have other people do the filtering...

One Girl in All the World is one of my favorites to this day.

I used to have their new song RSS feed, but there were so many new songs coming out and I didn't like half of them that I stopped.

That's actually not a bad choice, although a lot of other The Wingless tracks are even better in my opinion, including its corollary All the World in one Girl (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01080/), Teardrinker (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00786/), and The Scarlet Halls of Night (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01459/).

Great mix. Hypnotic, almost. A lot of Disco Dan's stuff is good, like Triforce Majeure (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01184/).

And I'm glad to see One Girl In All The World getting some love. It has special meaning to me, so I wasn't going to mention it in case that had clouded my judgment.

most of the chrono cross remixes are wonderful, especially Nikki Learns A Song, Radical Dreamers Angelic, Radical Punks, and the absolutely stunning Another Inspiration (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00171/).

Also, pretty much every Guardian Legend song. I loved that game, and never really thought of it as a fantastic soundtrack, but man, these remixers have done some amazing fucking things with that. Check out Rosenthorne (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00607/) by The Wingless, who does fantastic guitar work. Heck, i can pretty much recommend any mix he has done.

Mega Man remixes abound, and they're almost all stellar, owing to the fantastic source material. Highly recommend Disco Dan's Blue Lightning (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00464/), and those mega man 4 dustman remixes.

Street Fighter has another set of fantastic works, but the cream for me is the aforementioned Ken Song, and Jungle Jazz (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00581/), a remix of Makoto's stage theme by the omnipresent McVaffe, another guy whose remixes are pretty much assured to be fantastic.

Finally, i'd be remiss if i didnt mention super mario 2, which has some of the best music koji kondo ever did. Most spectacular are the remixes of the main theme-- Gypsy Jazz (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01466/), which is a django-esque guitar play, and SuperBuckJazz (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00577/) by Santa Cruz-based big band Estradasphere. The double-bass solo and sax solo are just freaking amazing. If this track doesnt have you just grooving, you have no soul.

That should be enough to get you started.

Hey, Shivam already mentioned Jungle Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, and SuperBuckJazz.

"Ocarina Boogie" by The Dark Lounge seems to have been removed based on some tightened criteria for inclusion, but you can find it here (http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Zelda05Music.php).

"Hyruel Party Mix" (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01529/) is a good song with a generic, unenthusing title. SAiNT 420's take on "Song of Storms" (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01045/) is good. "LostWoods South Central" (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00716/) is an interesting take on the LttP tune. Neskvartetten's "Waltz for Zora" (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01050/) is a very legitimate bebop take on the Zelda theme. "Hey Saria, How YOU Doin' " (http://dwellingofduels.com/duels/(04-07)%20July%202004%20-%20Legend%20of%20Zelda/03%20-%20Seifer%20-%20Legend%20of%20Zelda%2064%20-%20Hey%20Saria%20how%20YOU%20doin.mp3) by Seifer isn't on OCRemix, but it's one of my absolute favorites.

Mustin's "La Samba De Agua" (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00323/) from Mario 3 is superb. "Da Phunky Forest" (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00908/) from SMW is likely too eccentric for most, but I like it.

I don't really scour OC remix... at all. But I DO make it a point to download all their "Albums." More fodder for the Ipod.

Out of all of them Rise of the Star (http://kirby.ocremix.org/) and Project Chaos (http://s3k.ocremix.org/) are the only ones I can listen to from start to end without compulsively hitting the skip button.

You're pretty safe with almost anything by AmIEvil and Star Salzman, but my specific favourites include:

Begin the End of the Beginning (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01245/) (Final Fantasy Adventure)

It's My Turn to Dream (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01400/) (Link's Awakening, Ballad of the Wind Fish)

From Within (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01249/) (Donkey Kong Country 2, Mines)

Beamsabre Beat (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01235/) (Mega Man X2, Zero's theme)

Ancient Steps Retraced (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00247/) (Final Fantasy VII, Temple of the Ancients)

Secret of Spram (8 Bells Mix) (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00974/) (Secret of Mana, Ice Temple)

Duck Blur (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01290/) (Duck Tales, The Moon--no one had this up yet? Tsk tsk!)

Reviving Zue (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01273/) (Terranigma, Zue)

Shivam mentioned the Mega Man 4 remixes, but I'm going to specifically point out LetThereBeLight (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00475/). (Dust Man's music) It's easily one of the greatest remixes ever done.

Death on the Snowfield (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00205/) (Final Fantasy VI, Terra's theme)

Red XIII Redux (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00311/) (Final Fantasy VII, Cosmo Canyon)

Crying Mountain (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00877/) (Chrono Trigger, Singing Mountain--never used track)

Twinkle Park Classic (http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00982/) (Sonic Adventure, Twinkle Park)

ALL RIGHT, I'll end it here 'cos I'll never stop otherwise. There was a great track by LordMaestro called "The Forest Taught Me WHAT?" from Secret of Mana ... but all his stuff is gone. A falling-out, perhaps?

You know, I just recommend Unsealed MOST because it's a 19-minute hard rock medley of Zelda music. It's hard to argue with something like that.

Quick premise: Raps written as if they're rapped by the characters from Smash, but also done in the styles of many different famous rappers. This song is certainly ambitious but it succeeds in many ways (and makes me laugh a lot!). Also, the music backing is remixed from all three Smashes.

It's not bad, as these things go, but virtually every track showcases my biggest game remix pet peeve: The minute-long dramatic build-up before the melody arrives. That gets old very, very fast, especially when the album is six hours long!?#@$! Guys, brevity is part of what makes video game music good in the first place.

Kinda liked Disco Dan's trippy feely version of the Prelude, though, even though it's stretched out to eight minutes...

I tired to get into the Balance and Ruin, but yeah, it was that kind of overly serious project that I don't like from OCR. These tight, fun jazzy tracks are my favorite kinds.

That album is still on my computer. Not because it's good, but because sometimes I need a laugh, and Mogstradamus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i783GP0F4Q) is POSSIBLY the worst thing I've ever heard? I mean, it's tough to say, but it's up there.

They played some of Balance and Ruin when I went to see Video Games Live since a couple who helped run OCRemix (maybe the founders?) were there..

Oh my god, that link just did horrible, possibly illegal things to my ears, and I'm holding you responsible as an accomplice just for linking it, you bastard.

I would say this is the Swett Bro and Hella Jeff of music, but I think this is trying to be serious. I can't

I dunno, I can kinda dig it. Sounds groovy.

The fact that something happens at all makes it better than %90 of that album.

Maybe it would've made sense for every track on a FFIX album to take thirty seconds to start, just like whenever you try to do anything in that game. But not FFVI.

oh my god it all makes sense now. This was an album of FF6 songs made by kids who grew up on the PS1 FF games!

The (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01659) Forerunner (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01660) tracks (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01873) are really excellent Halo/Marathon remixes, and Blazkowicz's Great Escape (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02020) is my favorite Wolfenstein one. All three Monkey Island (http://ocremix.org/game/212/secret-of-monkey-island-dos) songs are pretty great, and Realms of Africa (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00905) for Age of Empires, despite not being really Afrocentric, is still good.

I love those first two, thanks! The third is a little too ambient for my taste but still fun.

Also I apparently have never posted what I consider to be the happiest-sounding OCremix track ever (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02510).

Glad you liked those! I've just been reminded of the one track I like that I forgot to post initially - let it never be said that city simulation cannot be funky (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02050).

Following credit links I found that the JENOVA cover above actually is from an band that has quite a bit more awesome stuff on their youtube page (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9Qc5eUj_rkUECdxPAZcFTg) and for sale.

Yea, but Pure Essence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZPZfcUsW8c), The Nightmare Oath (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8vy4BdW-kM), and The Impresario (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln9Sq7IOP3o) are good as hell, and I won't hear otherwise.
