Welcome to EDH Game 4! It's another Star (http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/sf6) format game, with a twist!

We're adding Planechase (http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/productarticle.aspx?x=mtg/tcg/planechase/productinfo) to the mix!

Basically, here's how it works. Our five planeswalkers will be selecting a deck of the various planes.

What is that order? RANDOM.ORG, DO YOUR THING!

Now that we have the order, that is how our players are seated around a circular table.

We will begin with Knight, and proceed in a clockwise fashion down the list.

So, here are the players as who they need to eliminate for Star!

Knight: Alpha Werewolf and Shivam
Buge: Shivam and Destil
Alpha Werewolf: Knight and Destil
Shivam: Knight and Buge
Destil: Buge and Alpha Werewolf

Now that that's all out of the way, let's get on to Planechase itself!

Our heroes are on a plane that has a global effect. Here's an example.

Each plane has a global effect, and a Chaos effect. The global effect can be applied as a trigger that happens when either planeswalking to or from the plane, or just a regular old "Enchant World" type effect.

Players may now decide to roll a Planar die as a sorcery ability, so only during main phases.

When you roll the Planeswalker symbol (the upper image on the die), the game shifts to the next plane in the planar deck, and effects are applied immediately, if needed.

When you roll the Chaos symbol (the lower image on the die), then the chaos effect occurs, going on to the stack.

The other four sides of the die are blank, indicating that nothing happens.

Each player gets one free roll of the die per turn. Each additional roll costs a cumulative 1 colorless mana. So, the second roll would cost 1, the third would cost 2, the fourth 3, etc...

How do we determine what planes are in the deck? Well, rather than do the crazy thing and throw them ALL in here, our players are going to determine what planes are in the deck...with two additions by the Game Master! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...ahem.

In the order prescribed above, our players will select one plane from the planar list (http://magiccards.info/extras.html, scroll down to "Planechase"), and those planes will be banned from being included in the deck. After the banned planes have been selected, our players will, maintaining the order, select one plane at a time until each has contributed three unique planes, so the deck will have 15 planes, not counting the two I will select, making for a total of 17 planes!

As far as the randomization, I will use random.org to shuffle the planes, and once I've exhausted all 17, I'll reshuffle it and start over.

If you wish to declare a Planar Die roll, then call it out, and I'll roll for you. To simplify things, if you want to declare multiple rolls, with the intent on getting a particular result, then you can say something like, "Okay, I've got three mana left over, I'd like to get the fuck off this plane before someone rolls Chaos. I'll bid up to three rolls on this, seeking for a Planeswalk roll." If it takes fewer than the bid number of rolls, I'll only charge you mana for the rolls that were taken.

Also, reading more in to it, the official Wizards rules for Planechase says everyone's supposed to bring their own planar deck. Huh. Well, I never played it that way. When I was playing at the college, nobody except for one dude had plane cards, so we just used that as the communal plane pile, which is what I based this way of playing Planechase on.

I'd say we just stick to my guns for this game, and if you guys REALLY want to do it the way the book says in a later game, then by all means.

You can play it either way. I'm not positive about the rules supporting that fully but it's a casual format so do whatever you want.

Kaalia attacks Knight (seriously man 14 mana already?), and since both he and Destil are functionally tapped out I'm gonna go ahead and put that Serra Angel from my hand onto the battlefield for a total of 8 damage to the face. I'll then roll the die, and assuming no chaos/planeswalk I'll end my turn.

It's too late now to fix but dread's ability doesn't use the stack. It's a replacement effect which takes place immediately so you mill till you hit him then you shuffle and continue milling.

The Alchemist is a Zombie, and has an ability that lets him bounce a nonland permanent. So, he bounces the Alchemist itself, and replays it. He's murdering every creature on the table.

Then, for the ninety-point conversion, he's got Brain Freeze, a mill spell with Storm. He's played 1000 spells this turn, so that's 3000 cards to be milled, which is being split between two players.

This is some Legacy nonsense. Classy, but RUDE combo, shivam. Classy.

Also Knight: while what you said is true, once you actually draw the cards you may have a problem. Dread will have to die every turn for this to work; If you have a Zenith or a similar card then you MAY be able to survive indefinitely (until you get beaten down, that is).

True, but I don't like giving up, so I'm gonna at least try and do something before I go out. Unless Destil concedes, then we can just end the game right there I guess. Also, Vigor (http://magiccards.info/lw/en/240.html) is actually the "shuffle into the library when it goes to the graveyard" card I have in my hand. I have GSZ in my deck, but it's not in my hand, so no luck with me being persistent.

Well, it was good for you and Alpha that you did what you did, because I likely would have killed one of you on my next turn. If Kresh had lived and my library was intact, I was gonna play High Market, then Rune-Scarred Demon, tutoring for Runes of the Deus (http://magiccards.info/shm/en/215.html). I'd play both Runes of the Deus and Gifts of the Deity on Kresh, making him an 11/11 with Indestructible, Hexproof, Deathtouch, Doublestrike, Trample, and all creatures able to block him have to block him. And on the off chance that I drew Evolution Charm (http://magiccards.info/pc/en/127.html) (or Runes of the Deus, I would have tutored for Evolution Charm instead), I would have given Kresh flying, so I could assure that he'd could swing for lethal commander damage on one turn.

But now this brings up some judge-y questions for Mr.J:

1) Since Kresh had Deathtouch, could I have him only deal 1 damage to blockers to kill them, and would the rest Trample over? Or would I have to deal the full amount to their toughness before Trample worked its magic?

2) When does Kresh get the +1/+1 counters? If Kresh has Trample, and he kills blocking creatures, would their deaths trigger his ability before the rest of the damage trampled over?

I have a feeling the answer to both of those is No, but I can still dream.

1) Trample works concurrently with Deathtouch now. Each blocking creature only needs 1 damage to be killed by deathtouch. The rest of the damage can be trampled through. So the answer to your question is 'yes'. I ran a deck with Basilisk Collar and Sword of Vengeance before, and this is what the case was when M11 came out.

2)Since damage just happens, and doesn't go on the stack anymore, the creatures die, but Kresh doesn't get the counters until those deaths resolve. So, if he's 11/11 and trample deathtouch with 3 2/2 creatures mob-blocking, they soak 3 of the damage, since the attacker assigns the damage to blockers, sending 9 through to the blocking player. Then the creatures die, and Kresh will get 6 +1/+1 counters.

EDIT: and, in your above case, with doublestrike, the first strike would go through as before for 9, and then Kresh would strike again to the player for another 11...

Waaait. Does the first strike stuff kill the creatures before his normalstrike damage, causing him to gain the +1/+1 counters prior to the normal strike?

When you block you basically create a "list" of creatures to deal damage to in order. You must assign lethal damage to one creature before applying it before damage can be assigned to the next creature, and so on (Rule 510.1d). So for example, you if you attack with a 3/3 into a 2/2 and another 3/3, you have to either assign two damage to the 2/2 and one to the 3/3 or all the damage to the 3/3. You cannot assign two damage to the 3/3 and one to the 2/2.

However, any damage > 0 from a creature with deathtouch is considered lethal damage; you therefore could assign a single point of damage to a creature to meet the requirements (702.2b).

Trample requires you to assign lethal damage to each creature blocking before damage can be dealt directly to the player. As Deathtouch gives lethal damage after a single point, you can assign one damage to each creature blocking your fatty, then assign the rest to the player.

2) When does Kresh get the +1/+1 counters? If Kresh has Trample, and he kills blocking creatures, would their deaths trigger his ability before the rest of the damage trampled over?

Normally all damage is dealt at once. Doublestrike however is a different question. You would deal all the damage during the first strike step and resolve that before adding counters. It would look something like this, assuming your creature's power is larger than the total number of creatures blocking it:

1. Kresh deals one first strike damage to Y creatures, and (Kresh's power) - Y to the opponent in trample damage.
2. Kresh gets Y +1/+1 counters, assuming that none of the Y creatures have regeneration shields or indestructability.
3. Kresh deals his new, full power, to the opponent in trample damage. I assume he wouldn't get any new +1/+1 counters at this point as no new creatures can be killed.

So basically, the answers to your questions are "yes" and "sort of"

AHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHA! Ok, that Shatner reaction image (http://i.imgur.com/bzQFz.jpg) I used is much more appropriate here. I was gonna plan on sticking around by playing Vigor or Dread every turn, equiping with the the Swiftfoot Boots, attacking, and then sacrificing one of them with High Market, but this works much better.

That was the second roll, so give me 1 mana.

Just a reminder: you cannot float mana through phases. Your mana pool clears between phases of the turn. I can only assume you wanted to use that floating mana you had for dice rolling. So, in order for this to work out, you'd have to take the rolls during your 1st main phase, though it really doesn't matter if it's before or after. It has no bearing on your attack phase.

If you have 2+ cycle lands it's also +1 net card every time. Loam engine's pritty sick. I hope he's running some of the cards I think he's running.

Right now I'm more interested in cards in the grave than in hand, I know to fill my hand up with cards I should cycle 'em all then loam once.

But even aside from "Dredge 2" I played that turn very wrong because I somehow thought I had about 4 more mana than I had and originally had and played grave-shell with temple untapped somehow. Since I couldn't do that (or take it back once I start dredging) I just threw in the extra loam at the end for kicks instead.

dredge just brings stuff back to your hand, right? is it basically just draw a ton of cards, dredge them back into your hand and go from there?
