Nadia told me this is where I should post this; if this is in error, then I humbly ask for a mod to move it to wherever is most appropriate.

Anyway, here is the announcement (http://www.nintendoforcemagazine.com) for Nintendo Force magazine. It will come in both physical and digital formats, and more info is coming soon.

Check back on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/NintendoForce/) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/NintendoForce) each day for more updates.

Also, if you'd like your letter to appear in the first issue, go here (https://www.facebook.com/NintendoForce/posts/486185691424112), read, and respond.

Edit: And I got ahead of myself and posted this before checking the NP thread in the games forum. Feel free to delete this on account of redundancy, if you wish.

I'm a little confused as to why they started a whole new magazine instead of holding on to the Nintendo Power brand. Is it unofficial?

Neat to see the Brawl in the Family guy getting some recognition.

Nintendo doesn't want Nintendo Power to exist anymore, so that name is off-limits. But this doesn't share any staff with NP, anyway.

I guess what I'm saying is "yes."

Bought my copy and skimmed it digitally (waiting for print to arrive to dive in).

I'm psyched my letter made it in - that's two months in a row!

It looked solid so far. I would say you don't need to stick so closely to NP's actual format and sidebars--do your own thing and breath. But I assume that's to come and this is sort of transitional homage.

I definitely like that "Like/Dislike" became "Yeah!" and "un-Yeah!" Cute idea.

I did the same thing as Tomm, I bought the print version and skimmed the digital version. It looks like a lot of love went into the magazine, which is great. I'm a little concerned over the amount of content they'll need to have for every month, and I kind of wish they took a more quarterly approach to it. All the same, this looks amazing and I hope they can keep up the quality.

Umby - one of the Oxfords will correct me if I'm wrong but it appears they're going every-other-month (is that bi-monthly or semi-monthly?).

It's also worth mentioning there is a discount code to offset the high cost of print - I think it was HPSD?

Yeah, we're making progress. Heck, you should have seen the early goings... I think we basically used NP as a base, and worked from there. It used to be a LOT closer.

These are both correct. We're also looking for other methods of publishing to bring down the price.

I agree that the print version is a little bit too expensive, but I wouldn't mind a digital-only subscription option at some point.

As for the magazine itself, I understand that you wanted to pay your respects to Nintendo Power for the premiere issue, but that doesn't mean I won't be looking forward to when you guys establish your own voice. I did like the Downloadable Reviews section, since it's not something you see as a regular feature on most online sources, and the Mutant Mudds feature was very educational.

Hey Nytetrayn, the website and the first issue both say that the proceeds are going to charity, but they don't specify which one. I'm not trying to be mean, or to make any accusations, but it would be helpful to specify what charity people's money is going toward.

LBD_Nytetrayn
01-17-2013, 03:12 AM
Eeeeeeyeah.

As far as I know, it definitely is, but... well, it hasn't been decided yet.

The target is the obvious one, but apparently one of the people who run the thing (not the one who donates books given as gifts by the author with personal notes thanking them for their support to Goodwill) has some sort of issue with people doing things in the name of said charity, and so we're trying to get clearance to actually do/say that we're doing this for their charity without them getting upset.

Such is my understanding, anyway. If they're not down with that, then there are plenty of other ones out there.

Would subscriptions include the first issue, or would that need to be secured through MagCloud separately?

LBD_Nytetrayn
02-11-2013, 04:32 PM
To my understanding, subs start with the second issue. I think we've got something to get the first at a lower price, or are planning on it, but don't hold me to that-- I'm not the one running things, and there were some last minute shake-ups (this was supposed to be announced sooner) that might have changed something.

Daikaiju
03-18-2013, 06:14 AM
Two questions, do you have a "street date" for #2? Will the next issue be available via Mag Cload as well?

LBD_Nytetrayn

I don't have an exact date, no, but I know it's supposed to go to the printers this week. So... sometime this week, possibly early next?

As for MagCloud, yeah, but you're going to pay a LOT more for the single issue than going with a sub (https://checkout.subscriptiongenius.com/nintendoforcemagazine.com/) (unless you're digital only). Like, 80 percent savings, I'm told.

LBD_Nytetrayn
04-04-2013, 02:42 AM

LBD_Nytetrayn
04-07-2013, 10:55 PM
Okay, I was mistaken-- I thought they were mailed out, but... well, here's what I've got:

Hey there, Force fans! We apologize for the continued delays in the arrival of printed copies of the magazine it was our understanding that they would have all been delivered by now, so we'll have to talk with our printing/distribution company to find out what's going on. We're frustrated too. To hopefully make up for the wait a bit, and because you've all been kind about it, I'd like to announce that we'll be giving away free games all throughout this upcoming week! We've got four recently released Nintendo titles that we'll be handing out to four lucky NF Print subscribers so if you've been waiting around for your Issue #2 to arrive, you're in the running to win. :) Check back tomorrow for the first game giveaway! (And once again, we apologize about the delivery delay. We'll find out what happened and make sure it doesn't happen again for Issue #3).

Well, well, look what just showed up at the NF home office! The printed issues do exist! (And were delivered on a Sunday morning?) This is the bulk order of extra copies we ordered to send out to late subscribers who missed the cut-off date a couple of weeks ago, as well as to sell as individual copies for anyone who just wants #2 by itself. (More details on that a little later.) But its arrival here means everyone else's individual copies really should be getting to your mailboxes very soon. Once again, sorry for the delays! And free game giveaways start tomorrow!

Not that I'm aware of; we pretty much knew what we were doing with this issue when the news came; more likely, we'll have the feature sometime coming up, or closer to when it comes out.

Assuming there is a feature; I can't imagine we wouldn't do one, but at the moment, I don't think anything specific is planned.

Crud! I thought I had mentioned this here!

So, we're accepting subscriptions for Year 2, and we're doing it through Kickstarter, which has allowed us to do a variety of things above and beyond. Go this route, and you can get all sorts of neat perks (including free games)! You can learn all about that here (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/910078610/nf-magazine-year-2-subscriptions).

If that's no good for you for some reason, you can still do it the old fashioned way (http://www.nintendoforcemagazine.com/product/the-nf-magazine-year-2-subscription/). No perks, but at least you can use PayPal and pay directly from that account, if you wish.

That said, there's only 66 hours left in the Kickstarter. Yeah, like I said... I kinda thought I'd shared the news here. D= Sorry about that!
