View Full Version : What Song is Stuck in Your Head Right Now?

Sometimes I find the best way to get a song out of your head is to force it out with another one, preferably one you like.

What have I got stuck in my head right now?

I've heard "Instant Karma" twice in the last twenty-four hours on two different radio stations. Once is a song, but twice tends to stick.

I've been playing percussion for a theater production of Smokey Joe's Cafe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokey_Joe's_Cafe) and all those old songs are infernally catchy.

The best way to expel an earworm is to fix your mind on a tune that's in an unusual time signature, such as Money (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYN96RWEo28) or Blue Rondo a la Turk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2htbaJFEAXQ). Waltzes can help, too, since most pop songs are in 4/4... That won't work against Wings of a Dove (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMtL_kqUxN4), though - ARGH! Why did I mention that song? Make it stop! Nooooooooo...

This is a cool story, actually! I have Eric Whitacre's "The Seal Lullaby" (http://youtu.be/fuLDD7O29T4) stuck in my head because we had a week to learn it before actually singing it for him at a workshop on Tuesday. We had hoped to have more time to work on it, but scheduling stuff moved the workshop to an earlier date, so now I'm trying to cram it into my brain over the weekend.

Another cool story about this song: it was commissioned for a Dreamworks movie about a baby seal, but they passed on that idea in favor of Kung-Fu Panda. Which worked out pretty well for them, in the end.

La Siene (http://www.cartoonbrew.com/cgi/a-monster-in-paris-out-on-dvd-today-in-the-u-s-81378.html). Full song is halfway down.

Between the smoky vocals and the gutiar work, it's an earworm with staying power.

Update: Okay, after reading this,

I was just reading the Guacamelee thread, but since none of the songs from that game have wormed their way into my head I got the stock Mexican music from Arrested Development.

I usually play an instrumental playlist at work and "I was lost without you" from ME3 came up. I've heard this song a billion times now, but for some reason when this part (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQeFvUuPNHc#t=0m55s) started playing it triggered another song in my head.

But I couldn't remember this second song clearly at all! I could hear the piano part completely clearly, and I could hear the guys voice, I could even hear the pitch of each note and word in my head but not the actual words. And for some reason I had the vague imagery of fire and a guy shooting a machine gun associated with it, which confused me because I couldn't think of a music video like that at all.

Finally, I realized it was Mad World, and the reason I was thinking of a shooter was this commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccWrbGEFgI8). Thanks for bringing up a seven year old commercial randomly, brain!

Having a song in your head you can't even identify is the WORST. This seriously drove me crazy for an hour at work, thankfully that song came on during my lunch break so it didn't keep me from working. But I used my Amazon credit to buy Mad World because I had to get it out of my head again that night.

One of my coworkers got a-ha's "Take on Me stuck" all up in my head yesterday, but I thwarted it by watching the official video and the literal version in rapid succession today. Not that I really mind, I mean it's a great song, its just that the first few measures of the chorus were on like, infinite repeat.

Also, the chorus of the Wonder Woman theme song (you know, "Wonda Woman!") has been stuck in my head for, like, three months. I just sing random shit to that tune all. the. time. So does my (in a month) future flatmate, so that should be awesome.

He has lots of friends and they're all right here
To put on their very own show

Oh Casper the friendly ghost
His heart's as good as gold
And he's tried to be good and kind
To everyone young and old

Big Baby Huey may not be bright
But he's nobody's fool
And Buzzy Crow is gonna show
Just how he's really cool
Little Lulu Audrey has her head in the clouds
Herman and Katnip make you laugh out loud

Yes Casper has lots of friends
And that's just to name a few
But he always likes to meet new friends
And he wants one of them to be youuuu
