Please tell me I'm not the only person who watched this in grade school. Crap, I think I watched it every year.

Free to Be You and Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCg9XLb-vHY) was this video collection of shorts (though I watched it on reel-to-reel) that was all full of happy good lessons, like how it's all right for boys to cry and play with dolls and that kind of thing. It's crazy wild. Do not miss.

Someone put it up on Youtube. The link I posted is only the intro, but you can find the rest of the shorts easily enough on the sidebar.

The movie definitely has its own charm, but if it were ever pit in a fight to the death against Mr T's Be Somebody (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoUidwxIN_w), I think we know who'd walk away with bloodied knuckles.

Man, time sure hasn't been good to Mel Brooks.

You think that's bad, "Michael Jackson" is apparently a little white girl.

I never got this one, though I did get the Wizard of Oz short on how smoking is bad for you, illustrated via some manner of anthropomorphic Queen of Cigarettes.

As for the video, last thirty seconds make up for the first howeverlong the rest of it is in spades. Also, the theme song screams for some sort of remake, ironic or otherwise.

"William wants doll" reminded us of this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-Ly54AvTGI)

Also: It breaks my heart to see Michael Jackson when he was young and not a monster. He had such a good voice.

Oh man, since reading that I've been envisioning a remake by Disturbed. I have to stop before my head explodes from an overdose of Awesome.

I grew up in an era where Michael Jackson was every kid's hero. Sigh.

Word.

Heal the world, make it a better place, for you and for me and the entire human race.... Awesome. Him, NES and Sega CD define my early 90's experience. "Dangerous" was his last great moment. And, all in all, he never converted to scientology, which makes me respect him, in the same way I respect Hannibal Lecter or Leather Face.

It's all right to cry.

Crying takes the sad out of you.

Well, yeah. But only if you are Rosey Grier.

I feel like I had the book of this as a kid. Or a record. Or possibly both. I'm sure it helped mold me into the dirty hippie I am today.

Hippies, you're hippies
You're not strong, you're weakies.
Come closer... I hate you.
You stink, we'll never be friends.

Poetry by Bo Summer.

There was definitely a record, so it's possible you owned it. I didn't, though I can lay claim to having the WWF Wrestling record thing.

Poetry by Bo Summer.

I have to give it credit for trying to rhyme "hippies" with ... "weakies?"

It sounds better when being growled by a chubby, babyfaced Danish man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BWwbg85YrM) wearing a cut-off vest that is at least a size too small.
