Guess i should be happy for you, for your success and all that
But your fame ain't got nothing for us
I was your booster babe, back when no one else cared (oh yeah, oh yeah)
You know i celebrated you (i'm hard for you girl),
Back when no one else even thought to

Staring out over the bridge
A million photo flashes from the water down below
Dawn light bouncing through the mist
The roar of traffic and the crack of police radios
When they ask her name
Could she please explain
She simply chooses to say...
Nothing

It is a beautiful night out there in Los Angeles
You live in Los Angeles
And you are going to Reseda -
We are all, in some way or another, going to Reseda someday - to die

And these initial shockwaves can't last
they're going to want to see the real love -- soon
they're going to want to see the real bombs -- in the air
they're going to want to hear the real songs -- in their ears
they're going to burn the flagpoles when they find out
they're going to cry with salty

tears

and they'll call themselves witnesses for the truth
and they'll speak the broken language of love

Got it drilled in my leg because I fucked my head
So when I'm all alone I'll always have one friend.
And when I wish I was dead and I hate my friends
I must repeat this till' the end
I still have a home even if my home's a van.

There's a time to sing these things
and a time to have them sung
a time to bring them to
and a time to have them brung
there's a lap for resting heads
there's the only nesting bed
there's the souls to cry among
all the things that don't get sung
and a hand to hold your throat
to stifle that crying choke...

Stretched out on the grass
A boy and a girl
Savoring their oranges
Giving their kisses like waves exchanging foam

Stretched out on the beach
A boy and a girl
Savoring their limes
Giving their kisses like clouds exchanging foam

Stretched out underground
A boy and a girl
Saying nothing, never kissing
Giving silence for silence

By the light of the moon
She'd drift through the streets
A rare old perfume
So seductive and sweet
She'd tease us and flirt
As the pubs all closed down
Then walk us on home
And deny us a round!

Let up the suicide doors.
This is my life homey, you decide yours.
I know Jesus died for us,
But I couldn't tell you who decide wars.
So I parallel double parked that motherfucker sideways
Old folks talking bout back in my day
But homey this is my day.

You know I already graduated

Nothing could be bring me closer
Nothing could be bring me near
Where is the road I follow?
to leave, leave

It's under, under, under my feet
The sea spread out there before me
where do I go where the land touches the sea
There is my trust in what I believe

That's what keeps me,
That's what keeps me,
That's what keeps me down,
To leave it, leave it,
Leave it all behind

We spun like birds on fire
Right down towards the residence, and I
I took all that I desired
Even crooks have to pay the rent
We swam like rats on fire
Right, right down the reservoir
We took all that we could carry
But we tried to carry more

And you know, you know, you know it all went wrong
And you know, you know, you know it was all wrong

We choked on street tap water
Well, I'm going to have to try the real thing
I took your laugh by the collar
And it knew not to swing
Any time I tried an honest job
Well, the till had a hole and ha-ha
We laughed about paying rent
Because the county jails, they're free

Loungin', between two pillars of ivory

wake up tired and I wake up pissed
wonder how I ended up like this
I wonder why things happen like they do
but I don't wonder long cuz I got a show to do

I'm sick at my stomach from the A.Z.T.
Broke at my bank cuz that shit ain't free
but I'm here to stay at least another week or two
I can't die now cuz I got another show to do

Don't give me no pity don't give me no grief
Wait till I die for sympathy
Just help me with this amp and a guitar or two
I can't die now cuz I got another show to do

Don't give me no preachin' no self servin'
I ain't no angel but nobody's deserving
I can dance on my own grave, Thank You!
but I can't die now cuz I got another show...

Some people keep saying I can't last long
but I got my bands I got my songs,
liquor, beer, and nicotine to help me along
and I'm drunk and stubborn as they come
chain smoking, guitar picking, til I'm gone

I ain't got no political agenda
Ain't got no message for the youth of America
'cept "Wear a rubber and be careful who you screw"
and come see me next Friday cuz I got another show...

Some people stop living long before they die
Work a dead end job just to scrape on by
but I keep living just to bend that note in two
and I can't die now cuz I got another show...

By the time you were born there were four other siblings
with your Mama awaiting your Daddy in jail
Your oldest brother was away at a home
and You didn’t meet him til you was nineteen years old
Old enough to know better, old enough to know better
but you took to his jaw line and long sandy hair
How he made you feel like none off the others
and the way he looked at you touched you deep down in there.

So you jumped on his bike and rode into the sunset
but the sequel it started with the next morning sun
and the dew on the bike seat and you all a glow
from the love he put in you and a life on the run.

Now, the District Attorney said He might of forgiven
You had lots of reasons to turn out this way
But He’ll throw you in jail for them four little babies
you made and delivered along the way

Last night you had a dream about a Lord so forgiving
He might show compassion for a heathen he damned
You awoke in a jail cell, alone and so lonely
Seven years in Michigan

I want you to love me
When I'm feelin' down
I want you above me
I search myself
I want you to find me
I forget myself
I want you to remind me

I don't want anybody else
When I think about you
I touch myself
I don't want anybody else

What big eyes you have,
The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad.
So just to see that you don't get chased
I think I ought to walk with you for a ways.

What full lips you have.
They're sure to lure someone bad.
So until you get to grandma's place
I think you ought to walk with me and be safe.

I'm gonna keep my sheep suit on
Until I'm sure that you've been shown
That I can be trusted walking with you alone.

The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate

Is it bright where you are
And Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
Now all secrets fade
We can watch the world devoured in its pain

In a con gone bad
Nearly drank myself to death
But when he died he said Lou had the cake
So I caught a bus headin' west

I saw the numbers running through a small cafe
And I knew I'd find my Uncle Lou
That's when Ed stepped up
He said pick a card
Shape the con before it shapes you

She said "I could tell you a story that could make you cry"
"What about you?"
I said "Me too"
"I could tell you a story that will make you cry"
And she sighed "Aaahh"
I said "I wanna be a singer like Lou Reed"
"I like Lou Reed" she said sticking her tongue in my ear
"Let's go, let's sit, let's talk"
"Politics go so good with beer"
"And while we're at it baby, why don't you tell me one of your biggest fears?"
I said "Loosing my penis to a whore with disease"
"Just kidding" I said "Loosing my life to a whore with disease"
I said "Please... I'm a humble guy with a healthy desire"
"Don't give me no shit because..."

You people can watch while I'm scrubbing these floors
And I'm scrubbin' the floors while you're gawking
Maybe once ya tip me and it makes ya feel swell
In this crummy Southern town, in this crummy old hotel
But you'll never guess to who you're talkin'.
No. You couldn't ever guess to who you're talkin'.
Then one night there's a scream in the night
And you'll wonder who could that have been
And you see me kinda grinnin' while I'm scrubbin'
And you say, "What's she got to grin?"
I'll tell you.

There's a ship, the black freighter
with a skull on its masthead
will be coming in.

[...skipping middle 50% of lyrics...]

By noontime the dock is a-swarmin' with men
comin' out from the ghostly freighter
They move in the shadows where no one can see
And they're chainin' up people and they're bringin' em to me
askin' me, "Kill them NOW, or LATER?"
Askin' ME! "Kill them now, or later?"
Noon by the clock
and so still by the dock
You can hear a foghorn miles away
And in that quiet of death
I'll say, "Right now.
Right now!"
Then they'll pile up the bodies
And I'll say,
"That'll learn ya!"

And the ship, the black freighter
disappears out to sea
And on it is me.

My generation's for sale,
Beats a steady job.
How much have you got?
My generation don't trust no one,
Its hard to blame,
Not even ourselves.
The thing that's real for us is fortune and fame,
All the rest seems like work.
Its just like diamonds!
In shit.

I'm high class, I'm a whore,
Actually both.
Basically I'm a pro.
We've all got our own style of baggage,
Why hump it yourself,
You've made me an offer that I can refuse,
Course either way I get screwed.

Where was I? I forgot
The point that I was making
I said if I was smart that I would
Save up for a piece of string
And a rock to wind the string around

Everybody wants a rock
To wind a piece of string around
Everybody wants a rock
To wind a piece of string around

Throw the crib door wide
Let the people crawl inside
Someone in this town
Is trying to burn the playhouse down
They want to stop the ones who want
A rock to wind a string around
But everybody wants a rock
To wind a piece of string around

If I were a carpenter I'd
Hammer on my piglet, I'd
Collect the seven dollars and I'd
Buy a big prosthetic forehead
And wear it on my real head

Everybody wants prosthetic
Foreheads on their real heads
Everybody wants prosthetic
Foreheads on their real heads

Throw the crib door wide
Let the people crawl inside
Someone in this town
Is trying to burn the playhouse down
They want to stop the ones who want
Prosthetic foreheads on their heads
But everybody wants prosthetic
Foreheads on their real heads

Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams and fairy tales (that's all she ever thinks about)

I'll see your We Want A Rock, Pheeel, and raise you a Sensurround.

When I was only a zygote
I still remember the time
When there was nothing to know or to think about
Except the sound of my mind
And the sound from outside

Sensurround, down at the bottom
Sensible to ear and sternum
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround

If Mom had known she was expecting
She might have gone to see Jaws
Instead of picking a film where the sound effects
Came right up through the floor
And I'd be differently formed

Sensurround, down at the bottom
Sensible to ear and sternum
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround

Accidentally in a coal mine it was found
When they accidentally dug too far down
And found the Sensurround

I still don't know who conceived it
Or where they got the idea
But there it was in the aisle by the exit sign
A woofer covered in wood
To shake the room when it should

Sensurround, down at the bottom
Sensible to ear and sternum
Made the fakeness be realistic
When the action went ballistic
One degree shy of sadistic
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround

If I could swim under the water
Without having to breathe
If I could follow the trail to the ocean floor
I think I know what there'd be
Down there waiting for me

Sensurround, down at the bottom
Sensible to ear and sternum
Made the fakeness be realistic
When the action went ballistic
One degree shy of sadistic
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround

in the back
off to the side
far away
is a place
where I hide
where I stay

tried to say
tried to ask
I needed to
all alone
by myself
where were you?

how could I ever think
it's funny how
everything that swore it wouldn't change
is different now
just like you would always say
we'll make it through
then my head fell apart and
where were you?

how could I ever think
it's funny how
everything you swore would never change
is different now
like you said you and me
would make it through
didn't quite
fell apart
where the fuck were you?

This thread needs more misery. Here it is:

When the routine bites hard
And ambitions are low
And the resentment rides high
But emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways,
Taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again

Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
Our respect run so dry?
Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again

Do you cry out in your sleep
All my failings exposed?
Get a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Is it something so good
Just can't function no more?
When love, love will tear us apart again

God is a concept
By which we measure
Our pain
I'll say it again

God is a concept
By which we measure
Our pain, yeah
Pain, yeah

I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I Ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy
I don't believe in Buddha
I don't believe in mantra
I don't believe in Gita
I don't believe in yoga
I don't believe in kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman
I don't believe in Beatles

I just believe in me
Yoko and me
And that's reality

The dream is over
What can I say?
The dream is over
Yesterday

I was the dream weaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the walrus
But now I'm John
And so, dear friends
You'll just have to carry on

The dream is over

But I had to kill her
I had to put her

And I can still hear her complaining.

Hang up the chick habit
Hang it up, daddy,
A girl's not a tonic or a pill
Hang up the chick habit
Hang it up, daddy,
You're just jonesing for a spill

Oh, how your bubble's gonna burst
When you meet another nurse
She'll be driving in a hearse

You're gonna need a heap of glue
When they all catch up with you
And they cut you up in two

Now your ears are ringing
The birds have stopped their singing
Everything is turning grey

No candy in your till
No cutie left to thrill
You're alone on a tuesday

He made an enemy then, he made an enemy of all of you
It’s him, not you.

You never heard it from me but there’s a breach in the hull of the truth
And the water’s too deep to prove.

He made an enemy then, he made an enemy of all of you
It’s him, not you.
It’s a little red sea let the man go we could go free
See the paddle go up, and the paddle go down
And the paddle go up, and the paddle go down
And the paddle go up, and the paddle go down
And the man falls in the sea.

He was a man of many nations, had a hundred souls and a hundred to go
He was a man of many nations, two hearts, two hands, it’s a slippery slope.
He had a fear of being naked, but you’re any other man in another man’s clothes
He was a man of many nations, of revelations, oh revelations.
He wrote a book about the Bible and he wrote a book about men in the sky
He wrote a book about the smell of winter then two, a little less simple to decipher
Saying, “I am the water at the foot of the palms,
oh I am sand and wind and the shit in your nose,
but either way, I’m a man of many nations.”

Was it the mending of the gown, or the running it around?
Was it the mending of the gown, or the running and the running it around?

She had a name, she had a spirit,
she had a line in the play if you wanted to hear it.
But the master of disguises, her demise was her design, they said.
Was it the mending of the gown, or the running,
and the running and the running it around?
She said my name and my spirit are both corrupt
and if you hold me close, you gotta hold me up.
It was the tender mending of this slender gown that brought me bending to the ground.
Now you’ll wear any old thing, oh you’ll wear any old thing.
So she wrapped herself in swallowing up the fever to the air of the broken wind
It’s an actor thing, she’s just pretending. It’s an actor thing, she’s just pretending.
If you burn the virgin flags, then I will shake (Shake!) as the heat waves in the sun.
This one’s for Maggie, this one’s for Sam.
This one’s for Maggie, this one’s for Sam.
Oh, any other random spirit lover busted, I have lusted after you…
The way bloodsuckers do!
The way bloodsuckers do!
The way bloodsuckers do!

Late afternoon, another day is nearly done
A darker grey is breaking through a lighter one
A thousand sharpened elbows in the underground
That hollow hurried sound of feet on polished floor
And in the dollar store, the clerk is closing up
And counting loonies trying not to say
"I hate Winnipeg"

The driver checks the mirror seven minutes late
The crowded riders' restlessness enunciates
The Guess Who sucked, the Jets were lousy anyway
The same route everyday
And in the turning lane
Someone's stalled again
He's talking to himself
And hears the price of gas repeat his phrase
"I hate Winnipeg"

And up above us all
Leaning into sky
Our golden business boy
Will watch the North End die
And sing, "I love this town"
Then let his arcing wrecking ball proclaim
"I hate Winnipeg"

And to balance out the Weakerthans with some truly terrible lyrics, here's some New Order for you:

"The Perfect Kiss":
I have always thought about
Staying here and going out
Tonight I should have stayed at home,
Playing with my pleasure zone
He has always been so strange,
Id often thought he was deranged
Pretending not to see his gun,
I said lets go out and have some fun

"Thieves Like Us":
Oh, love is found in the east and west
But when love is at home, it's the best
Love is the cure for every evil
Love is the air that supports the eagle.

"True Faith":
When I was a very small boy,
Very small boys talked to me
Now that weve grown up together
Theyre afraid of what they see
Thats the price that we all pay
Our valued destiny comes to nothing
I cant tell you where were going
I guess there was just no way of knowing

Oh, girl Ive known you very well
Ive seen you growing everyday
I never really looked before
But now you take my breath away.

Suddenly youre in my life
Part of everything I do
You got me working day and night
Just trying to keep a hold on you.

Here in your arms I found my paradise
My only chance for happiness
And if I lose you now I think I would die.

Oh say youll always be my baby
We can make it shine, we can take forever
Just a minute at a time.

Every day I wake up to a bowl of clover honey and let the locusts fly in.
Lobsterbacks attack the town again
Wrap all my things in aluminum
Beams of darkness streak across the sky
Pink rays from the ancient satellite

Every time I look out my window same three dogs looking back at me
Every time I open my windows cranes fly in to terrorize me
The power of the Holy Ghost

Shadow of the New Praetorian
Tipping Cows in fields Elysian
Saturnalia for all you have
The seven habits of the highly infected calf

Swan diving off the tongues of crippled giants
International Business Machine
Choking on bits of fallen bread crumbs
Oh, this burning beard, I have come undone
It's just as I've feared. I have, I have come undone

Bugger dumb the last of academe
Okkam's razor makes the cutting clean
Shaven like a banker, lilac vegetal
Break the glass ceiling and the golden parachute on down

Shadow of the New Praetorian
Tipping cows in fields Elysian
Saturnalia for all you have

From: The Song of Investment Capital Overseas

Out of town, my work takes me
Out of town,
I empty villages
I burn their housed down.

Lay out plantations,
And bring prosperity to

Rag weed tall, better hope that his ladder don't crack
Or he'll hit the ground low, hard and under his back
At the battle at the bottom of the ocean, well, the dead do rise
You need proof? I got proof. At the surface you can watch 'em float by

Way in back of the room, there sits a cage
Inside is a clock that you can win if you can guess its age
Which you never can do, cuz the time it constantly changes
For lack or luck, I guess that is the saying

On the first page of the book of blue it read
"If you read this page, than that'll be your death"
By then it was too late
And you wound up on an island of shells and bones that bodies had left
And the one thing you taught me 'bout human beings was this:
They ain't made of nothin' but water and shit

There were 87 Advil in the bottle, now there's 30 left.
I ate 47, so what happened to the other 10?
Why do you suspiciously change the subject and break my concentration, as I dump the bottle out and I count the Advil up again?

Don't interrupt me as I struggle to complete this thought.
Have some respect for someone more decrepit than yourself.
And I'm not done, and I won't be 'til my head falls off, though that may not be a long way off.

Hitting every pocket on my shirt, pants & overcoat.
I'm hitting them again, but I don't know where I put my notes.
Clearing my throat and gripping the lecturn, I smile and face my audience, clearing his throat and smiling with his hands on the bathroom sink.

And when I lean my head against the frosted shower stall, I see stuff through the glass that I don't recognize at all.
And I'm not done, and I won't be 'til my head falls off, though it may not be a long way off.

I'm not done talking yet.
I'm not done talking yet.

And when I lean my head against the frosted shower stall, I see the broken figure silhouetted on the wall.
And I'm not done, and I won't be 'til my head falls off, though it may not be a long way off.
I won't be done until my head falls off.

And I can't find an angel to help me decide
Well he's gettin' heavy as I get older
I've gotta find me an angel someday

Angel, are you coming?
Or did you give up?
I spent all my credit
And pushed all my luck
But these days, I can't hardly hold him down
His strength is my crutch
Oh white feathered angel, I am waiting
Am I just asking too much?

Sometimes there's a devil sitting on my shoulder (ooh!)
What is it about me, he won't go away
And though we have gotten to like each other
I've gotta find me an angel

He's got a smile that charms me plenty
He'll take dessert before his food
He gives delicious conversation
And then he makes sure that he's been...understood

Now, time for a history lesson!

The most interesting thing about King Charles I is that he was 5'6" tall at the start of his reign and only 4'8" tall at the end of it, because of...

Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England (Puritan)
Born in 1599 and died in 1658 (September)
Was at first (only)
MP for Huntingdon (but then)
He led the Ironside Cavalry at Marston Moor in 1644 and won
Then he founded the New Model Army
And praise be! beat the cavaliers at Naseby
And the king fled up north like a bat to the Scots

But under the terms of John Pym's Solemn League and Covenant, the Scots handed King Charles I over to...

Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England (and his warts)
Born in 1599 and died in 1658 (September)
But, alas! (oy vey!)
Disagreement then broke out (between)
The Presbyterian Parliament and the military who meant to have an independent bent and so
The Second Civil War broke out
And the Roundhead ranks faced the cavaliers at Preston Banks
And the king lost again, silly thing (stupid git)

And Cromwell sent Colonel Pride to purge the House of Commons of the Presbyterian royalists, leaving behind only the Rump Parliament

Which appointed a high court at Westminster Hall to indict Charles I for...
Tyranny! (*gasp*)
Charles was sentenced to death even though he refused to accept that the court had...
Jurisdiction! (say goodbye to his head!)
Poor King Charles laid his head on the block (January, 1649)
Dooooooown came the axe, and

In the silence that followed the only sound that could be heard was a solitary giggle, from...

Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England (ole!)
Born in 1599 and died in 1658 (September)
Then, he smashed (Ireland!)
Set up the Commonwealth (and more!)
He crushed the Scots at Worcester and beat the Dutch at sea in 1653 and then
He dissolved the Rump Parliament
And with Lambert's consent wrote the instrument of government
Under which Oliver was protector at last
The end!

Headed down south to the land of the pines
And I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline
Starin' up the road
And pray to God I see headlights

I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a hopin' for Raleigh
I can see my baby tonight

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Runnin' from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time stringband
My baby plays the guitar
I pick a banjo now

Oh, the North country winters keep a gettin' me now
Lost my money playin' poker so I had to up and leave
But I ain't a turnin' back
To livin' that old life no more

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly
Had a nice long toke
But he's a headed west from the Cumberland Gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee

And I gotta get a move on fit for the sun
I hear my baby callin' my name
And I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh
At least I will die free

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Build your muscles as your body decays yeah

Just surrender and it won't hurt at all

A condition of mercy

An old man told me a fable
When the piper is gone
And the soup is cold on your table
And if the black crow flies
To find a new destination
That is the sign

Come tonight
Come to the ogre site
Come to ogre battle fight

DVNO, four capital letters

Hearing this in the Hitman movie nearly killed my boner for this track, but the feeling was fleeting.

---

A beat's on repeat, beating on me
From every car in the street
It's a constant repeat, on repeat
Of your paranoid heartbreaking beats
On repeat

It's a five song repeat beating on me
Your favorite band helps you sleep
And here comes the new stylish creep
From every car in the street

Don't tell nobody what, what you really want because
They can tell everybody else what you really want
Then you're fucked, so act like it's for yourself or it's all yours
And they go and tell everybody else that you're really great
We are just people

You're enfranchised and entrenched
But know that it's yours!
Real life is a compromise
But your beats are half-assed, streak is beating on me
Well, I'm drinking, the weak is helping me sleep

I wish I could complain more about the rich
But then all their children would run the streets and come to every show
No one wants that
But then all their children would flee the schools, come to every show
Drugged and unwashed

Beats are on repeat, beating on me
On your radio

My life's in jeopardy
Murdered in cold blood is what I'm gonna be
I ain't been home since Friday night
And now my wife is coming after me

Give me police protection
Gonna buy a gun so I can look after number one
Give me a bodyguard
A black belt judo expert with a machine gun!

Gonna buy a tank and an aeroplane
When she catches up with me won't be no time to explain
She thinks I've been with another woman
and that's enough to send her half insane
Gonna buy a fast car, put on my lead boots
and take a long, long drive
I may end up spending all my money, but I'll still be alive!

Gonna go down to the lake
And we don't care about the stories we've heard
And we're too damn dumb to realize
That we're never going to return

And soon enough we're gonna meet Voorhees
We might as well write it on our heads

They act like people but they're shapeless, grimey, grey and brown

Everything's different now, ever since the monsters of mud

Look out there's one right there it freaks me out it's covered in crud
All of our values have been challenged by the monsters of mud
Here they slime, there they slouch, on the carpet, on my couch
Mud monsters everywhere you can't escape the slobbering flood
We couldn't stop them so we all became the monsters of mud

Today I'm living like a rich man's son
Tomorrow morning I could be a bum
It doesn't matter which direction though
I know a woman in New Mexico

Worse comes to worse
I'll get along
I don't know how
But sometimes I can be strong

And if I don't have a car I'll hitch
I've got a thumb and she's a sonnuvabitch
I'll do my writing on my road guitar
And make a living at a piano bar

Worse comes to worse
I'll get along
I don't know how
But sometimes I can be strong

Ooo-oo-ooo- Lightning and thunder
Flashed across the roads we drove upon
Oh, but it's clear skies we're under
When we are together, when we sing this song

Worse comes to worse
I'll get along
I don't know how
But sometimes I can be strong

Fun ain't easy if it ain't free
Too many people got a hold on me
But I know something that they don't know
I know a woman in New Mexico

Worse comes to worse
I'll get along
I don't know how
But sometimes I can be strong

Ooo-ooo-ooooo-oooo-ooooo.

Someone's driving a 450
And his friends are so wild
They're still in their stick-shifties
And they feel they have much more style

But I've found...

It's all up to what you value
Down to where you are
It all swings on the pain you've gone through
Getting where you are

It's all up to what you value
In your motor car
It all rests on what it cost you
Getting where you are

It's what you value...

Now the years are rolling by me
They are rocking evenly
And I am older than I once was
And younger than I'll be
That's not unusual.
No it isn't strange, after changes upon changes
We are more or less the same.
After changes, we are more or less the same.

Lie-la-lie...

Now I'm putting on my winter clothes and wishing I was gone
Going home
Where the New York City winters aren't bleeding me, leading me,
Going home.

Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God's love be with you

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much (She knows!)

Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you

Here
Am I floating round my tin can
Far above the moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

So that you can buy a forty

Like boring nice people pose threats to your authority.
This positivity is negativity,

It's the only way they'll ever get paid
I will teach them to lie

I will keep my shit office job
Sideline dreams of running from the law
You should always try not to aim too high
I will keep this shit job

Some folks tell me I'm a fool
But I just work here, I don't make the rules
I'll admit I once had hope
But I was smoking lots of dope
It's just all a part of getting older

I have read there once was a time
When we all didn't just toe the line
But you can't believe everything you read
I will toe that line

I will teach my children to lie
They will know it's wrong to be right
It's the only way they'll ever get paid

I will say that I'm alarmed
But it's too easy to do harm
And there's already too much damage done

parishhiltonisametaphor by Dillinger Four

Primed so meticulous, stripped down to the nucleus
Of everything that sickened me
Before I started viewing this
I've read it in the glaze painted vacant gaze
Of this shell of a human before me
We thank the Lord for the ego
Afforded the shallow now

Such handsome propaganda
Truly business accused of show
And they're cueing the applause sign now
Pretty little casualties
In temporary tragedies
Born from the same place self-doubt grows
Cold and hollow red carpet ready pose
But around here "Diva" ain't much of a compliment

Celebrate the undescerning
Don't question what you're learning
Crank the violin 'cause Rome is fucking burning now
Culture shown in effigy
Presented as "Celebrity"
Like tiny boxes crying out "Believe Me"
But careful there, honey
'Cause your roots are showing now

What a cherished myth of marketing
Propaganda with complection so clear
Tomorrows insecurities playfully draped
In the second-hand styles of next year
And it's so hard to look away
Although somehow harder yet to stare
These picture perfect pawns are salesmen now
Like carpetbaggers shilling their wares
And in reality I really don't care
Because asshole's a fashion
I never could afford to wear

By the second verse dear friends
my head will burst, my life will end
so I'd like to start this one off by saying
"live and love."

I was young and at home in bed
I was hanging on the words some poem said
at 31 - I was impressionable
I was upsettable...

I tried to make my breathing stop and my heartbeat slow
so when my mom and John came in I would be cold...

I was breaking in a case of suds
at the brass rail a fall down drunk
with his tongue torn out
and his balls removed
and I knew that my best lines had gone
while stupidly I lingered on
oh, wise men know
when it's time to go and so
I should too...

The best ever death metal band out of Denton
Were a couple of guys, who'd been friends since grade school.
One was named Cyrus, and the other was Jeff.
And they practiced twice a week in Jeff's bedroom.

The best ever death metal band out of Denton
Never settled on a name.
But the top three contenders, after weeks of debate,
Were Satan's Fingers, and The Killers, and The Hospital Bombers.

Jeff and Cyrus believed in their hearts they were headed
For stage lights and leer jets, and fortune and fame.
So in script that made prominent use of a pentagram,
They stenciled their drumheads and guitars with their names.

This was how Cyrus got sent to the school
Where they told him he'd never be famous.
and this was why Jeff,
In the letters he'd write to his friend,
Helped develop a plan to get even.

When you punish a person for dreaming his dream,
Don't expect him to thank or forgive you.
The best ever death metal band out of Denton
Will in time both outpace and outlive you.
Hail Satan!
Hail Satan tonight!
Hail Satan!
Hail hail!

You don't get the breaks like some of us do
Better work it out, find where you've gone wrong
Better do it soon, 'cuz you don't have long!

Get out of sour milk sea
You don't belong there
Get back to where you should be
Find out what's going on there

If you want the most from everything you do
In the shortest time, your dreams come true
In no time at all makes you more aware
Very simple process takes you there

Get out of sour milk sea
You don't belong there
Get back to where you should be
Find out what's going on there

Looking for release from limitation
There's nothing without illumination
You'll fool around with every different cult
There's only one way really brings result

Get out of sour milk sea

Get back to where you should be
Find out what's going on there

I wonder what went wrong
So that she had to roam the streets
She dunt do major credit cards
I doubt she does receipts
It's all not quite legitimate

And what a scummy man
Just give him half a chance
I bet he'll rob you if he can
Can see it in his eyes,
Yeah, that he's got a driving ban
Amongst some other offences

And I've seen him with girls of the night
And he told Roxanne to put on her red light
They're all infected but he'll be alright
Cause he's a scumbag, don't you know
I said he's a scumbag, don't you know!

Although you're trying not to listen
Avert your eyes and staring at the ground
She makes a subtle proposition
"I'm sorry love I'll have to turn you down"

He must be up to something
What are the chances sure it's more than likely
I've got a feeling in my stomach
I start to wonder what his story might be

They said it changes when the sun goes down
Around here

Look here comes a Ford Mondeo
Isn't he Mister Inconspicuous?
And he don't even have to say 'owt
She's in the stance ready to get picked up

Bet she's delighted when she sees him
Pulling in and giving her the eye
Because she must be fucking freezing
Scantily clad beneath the clear night sky
it doesn't stop in the winter, no
Around here

They said it changes when the sun goes down
Over the river going out of town

There once was a man, and he couldn't cry
Hadn't cried for years and for years
Napalmed babies, movie love stories
For instance, could not produce tears
As a child he had cried, as all children will
Then at some point his tear ducts all ran dry
Grew to be a man, it all hit the fan
Things got bad but he couldn't cry.

His dog got ran over, his wife up and left him
After that he got sacked from his job
Lost his arm in a war, was laughed at by a whore
All but still not a sniffle or sob
Well his novel was refused and his move was panned
His big Broadway show was a flop
He got sent off to jail, you guessed it no bail
All but still not a dribble or drop

In jail he was beaten, bullied and buggered,
Made to make license plates
Water and bread was all he was fed
Not once did a tear stain his face
Doctors were called in, scientists too
Theologians were last and practically least
They all agreed sure enough, this is no creampuff
But in fact an insensitive beast

He was taken from jail and placed in a place
For the insensitive and the insane
He made a lot of friends, and he played a lot of chess
And He cried every time that it rained.
Once it rained for forty days and it rained forty nights.
And he cried and he cried and he cried and he cried
On the forty-first day, he passed away,
He just dehydrated and died.

He went up to heaven, located his dog
After that he rejoined his arm
Below all the critics, they took it all back
Cancer robbed the whore of her charm
His ex-wife died of stretch marks, his ex employer went broke
The theologians were finally found out
Right down to the ground, the jailhouse burned down
And the earth suffered perpetual drought.

Give up on trying to save us
I hope we come out with a fail-safe plot
To piss off the dumb few that forgave us

I hope the fences we mended
Fall down beneath their own weight
And I hope we hang on past the last exit
I hope it's already too late

And I hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
Someday burns down
And I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away
And I never come back to this town again in my life

I hope I lie
And tell everyone you were a good wife
And I hope you die
I hope we both die

There is no sign of land
You are coming down with me
Hand in unlovable hand

And I hope you die
I hope we both die

Fathers a lonely man in a crowded room.
He keeps to himself and he never lets anyone know.
Its a part of his heritage-his father was that way too.
And mother can't understand why he died so soon.

But he's still alive-
He's still got his mind-
and that's all he needs-to get by.

Don't wonder why.
You're gonna be just like them.

A boy i knew was too low to tie his own shoes.
We couldn't tell him what was dirt and what was a bruise.
He's got a gun now-he's got nothing to lose.
(You live without love for too long, it might happen to you).

But now he's got a home where he's not alone,
And people care
He knows they do
He saw his picture on the evening news.

And a look at yourself.
Do you like what you see?
The things that you feel aren't the things you were taught to believe.
You had your inoculations as a child, so you won't go crazy
but you'll never go wild
Isn't that what you want?
You wanna go wild...wild...wild.

Now you feel like a lonely man in a crowded room.
You tell me nobody really cares-well how 'bout you?
See, there's a man with his hand on the button out there, saying, in his life no one ever cared-so why should he care?
why?

Don't wonder why.
You're gonna be just like them.

Don't wonder why.
you're gonna be just like them.

I'll never be just like them.

My Handle is Innerlogic, and I'm posting in the lyrics thread!!!!

Automatons in business suits swinging black boxes
Sequestering the blueprints of daily life
Content and free of care, they rejoyce in morning rituals
As they pile like drone ant colonies to their office in the sky

I don't ask questions, don't promote demonstration,
don't look for new consensus, don't stray from constitution
if I pierce the complexity I won't find salvation
just the bald and overt truth of the evil and deception.

Oh come on man, I had to do it.

Oh come on man, I had to do it.

I was waiting for someone who would make that connection, and you did it.

On a side note, Stranger Than Fiction (as an album) was alright, but I don't know why people like Infected so much. I don't think it's that good, but whatever

And on yet another side note, I thought it was going to be a reply about the ALL lyrics, I was disappointed to say the least.

I used to think she was the greatest thing
I really cared, gave her a diamond ring
She said rather die than ever leave me
Well I never saw her face since then
And if the law don't get her then I will
Four little diamonds

She must be somewhere on the open road
She always said she was the lonely one
She gets you with her tales of woe
She took me for everything
And if the law don't get her then I will
Four little diamonds

I looked around, I climbed up high into the dawn
But she was gone with the night
I thought about the things she said
And all the things we done
But where could she run?
That's just no answer to give

I keep on wondering 'bout her day and night
She probably thinks I was a fool, she's right
She don't know it, but I'm gonna keep on searching for that woman
I'm gonna search everywhere
And if the law don't get her then I will
Four little diamonds

I looked around, I climbed up high into the dawn
But she was gone with the night
I thought about the things she said
And all the things we done
But she ran away
That's just no answer to give

I still hear her calling out to me
I still listen for her endlessly
But it never even crossed my mind she was a cheater
I gotta find out where she hides
Cuz if the law don't get her then I will
Four little diamonds

Ever since the zoo made their new addition, I’ve been planning a secret mission
Yang Yang and Lun Lun had a little baby girl and there’s people tuning in from all over the world
To watch the baby panda on the webcam show, but that little cub’s just a dirty pinko
Communism represents a threat to our nation, send Mei Lan on a permanent vacation

Gotta kill
Gotta kill the baby panda
Gotta kill
Gotta kill the baby panda
Gotta kill
Gotta kill the baby panda
Gotta kill
Gotta kill
the communist panda

Without the HUAC or McCarthy around, who’s gonna take these communists down?
Looks like I’m the only man up to the task, it won’t be long till Mei Lan’s in a casket
Going on a patriotic killing spree to put an end to her socialist creed
From each according to his ability
To each according to his need

Gotta kill
Gotta kill the baby panda
Gotta kill
Gotta kill the baby panda
Gotta kill
Gotta kill the baby panda
Gotta kill
Gotta kill
the communist panda

What’s black and white and red all over? The panda enclosure by the time this is over
Gonna bleed that little bear till it’s dead dead dead. Did you know that pandas bleed communist red?
I’ve got a knife, gonna stab it to death and watch the baby panda take its final breath
So long Mei Lan, it’s sure been swell
Say hello to Mao when you see him in hell!

Flew in from Miami Beach B.O.A.C.
Didn't get to bed last night
On the way the paper bag was on my knee
Man I had a dreadful flight

I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boys
Back in the USSR

Been away so long I hardly knew the place
Gee, it's good to be back home
Leave it 'til tomorrow to unpack my case
Honey, disconnect the phone

I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boys
Back in the US, Back in US, Back in the USSR

Well, the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the west behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
That Georgia's always my m-m-m-m-m-mind

I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boys
Back in the USSR

Well, the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the west behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
That Georgia's always my m-m-m-m-m-mind

Show me round the snow-peaked mountains way down south
Take me to your daddy's farm
Let me hear your balalaikas ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm

I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boys
Back in the USSR

I am telling myself the story of my life,
stranger than song or fiction.
We start with the joyful mysteries,
before the appearance of ether,
trying to capture the elusive:
the farm where the crippled horses heal,
the woods where autumn is reversed,
and the longing for bliss in the arms
of some beloved from the past.
I said 'Your daddy loves you'.
I said 'Your daddy loves you very much';
he just doesn't want to live with us anymore'.

The plane comes down behind enemy lines
and you don't speak the language.
A girl takes pity on you:
she is Mother Theresa walking among the poor,
and her eyes have attained night vision.
In an orchard, drenched in blue light,
she changes your bandages and soothes you.
All day her voice is balm,
then she lowers you into the sunset.
Hers is the wing span of the quotidian angel,
so her feet are sore from the walk
to the well of human kindness,
but she gives you a name and you grow into it.
Whether a tramp of the low road or a prince,
riding through Wagnerian opera,
you learn some, if not all, of the language.
And these are the footsteps you follow
- the tracks of impossible love.

12 days in Paris,
and I am awaiting for life to start.
In the lobby of the Hotel Charlemagne
they are hanging photographs
of Rap artists and minor royalty.
All cigarettes have been air-brushed from these pictures,
making everyone a liar,
and saving no-one from their folly.
As proud as Lucifer, I do nothing to hide
my kerosene dress and flint eyes
- which one steady look, are able to restore
to these images their carcinogenic threat.
So what if this is largely bravado ?
I have only 12 days in Paris
and I'm awaiting for life to start.
I'm setting out my stall behind a sheet of dark hair,
and you, the hostage of crazed hormones,
will be driven to say:
'I am the next poet laurate
and she is the cherry madonna,
and all of the summer is hers.'

At first I don't notice you,
or the colour of your hair,
or your readiness to laugh.
I am tying a shoelace,
or finding the pavement fascinating
when the comet thrills the sky.
Ever the dull alchemist.
I have before me all the necesary elements:
it is their combination that eludes me.
Forgive me ... I am sleepwalking.
I am jangling along to some song of the moment,
suffering it's sweetness,
luxuriating in it's feeble aproximation of starlight.
Meanwhile there is a real world ...
trains are late, doctors are breaking bad news,
but I am living in a lullaby.

And I'm horny

And subsequently procreated

They call me the Hiphopopotamus
My lyrics are bottomless
They call me the Hiphopopotamus
Flows that glow like phosphorous

Where did you get that preposterous hypothesis?
Did Steve tell you that, perchance?
Steve.
My rhymes and records they don't get played
Because my records and rhymes they don't get made
And if you rap like me you don't get paid
And if you roll like me you don't get laid.
My rhymes are so potent that in this small segment
I made all of the ladies in the area pregnant
Yes, sometimes my lyrics are sexist
But you lovely bitches and hoes should know I'm trying to correct this.
Other rappers dis me
Say my rhymes are sissy.
Why? Why? Why?
What?
Why exactly?
What? Why?
Be more constructive with your feedback, please. Why?
Why?
Why, because I rap about reality?
Like me and my grandma drinking a cup of tea?
There ain't no party like my nanna's tea party.
Hey! Ho!
I'm the motherflippin'
I'm the motherflippin'
I'm the motherflippin'
Who's the motherflippin?

Representers in the front, all the dissers in the back
They came to see the opener 'cause we're too old and fat
Mommies and daddies are waiting in the car
It's another late night and we're playing after hours

Older chicks don't like us because we play too fast
The younger ones admire us 'cause we remind them of their dads
Alchoholics at the bars are feeling lonesome too
They were all backstage and drank up all our brew!

Seems she forgot all about the library like she told her old man, now
And with the radio blasting, goes cruisin' just as fast as she can, now
And she'll have fun, fun, fun, 'til her daddy takes the T-Bird away

Well, the girls can't stand her 'cause she walks, looks, and drives like an ace, now
She makes the Indy 500 look like a Roman chariot race, now
A lot of guys try to catch her, but she leads them on a wild goose chase, now
And she'll have fun, fun, fun, 'til her daddy takes the T-Bird away

Well, you knew all along that your dad was getting wise to you, now
And since he took your set of keys, you've been thinking that your fun is all through now
But you can come along with me 'cause we got a lot of things to do now
And we'll have fun, fun, fun now that daddy took the T-Bird away

We speak in the store
I'm a sensitive bore.
You seem markedly more
And I'm oozing suprise.

But it's late in the day
And you're well on your way.
What was golden went gray
And I'm suddenly shy.

And the gathering floozies
Afford to be choosy
And all sneezing darkly
In the dimming divide.

I have read the right books
To interpret your looks.
You were knocking me down
With the palm of your eye.

This was unlike the story
It was written to be.
I was riding its back
When it used to ride me.

And we were galloping manic
To the mouth of the source.
We were swallowing panic
In the face of its force.

And I am blue,
I am blue, and unwell.
Made me bold
Like a horse.

Now it's done.
Watch it go.
You've changed some.
Water run from the snow.

Am I so dear?
Do I run rare?
And you've changed some;
Peach, plum, pear.

The meadowlark and the chim-choo-ree and the sparrow
Set to the sky in a flying spree, for the sport over the pharaoh
A little while later the Pharisees dragged comb through the meadow
Do you remember what they called up to you and me, in our window?

There is a rusty light on the pines tonight
Sun pouring wine, lord, or marrow
Down into the bones of the birches
And the spires of the churches
Jutting out from the shadows
The yoke, and the axe, and the old smokestacks and the bale and the barrow
And everything sloped like it was dragged from a rope
In the mouth of the south below

We've seen those mountains kneeling, felten and grey
We thought our very hearts would up and melt away
From that snow in the night time
Just going
And going
And the stirring of wind chimes
In the morning
In the morning
Helps me find my way back in
From the place where I have been

And, Emily - I saw you last night by the river
I dreamed you were skipping little stones across the surface of the water
Frowning at the angle where they were lost, and slipped under forever,
In a mud-cloud, mica-spangled, like the sky'd been breathing on a mirror

Anyhow - I sat by your side, by the water
You taught me the names of the stars overhead that I wrote down in my ledger
Though all I knew of the rote universe were those pleiades loosed in december
I promised you I'd set them to verse so I'd always remember

That the meteorite is a source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee

And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee

You came and lay a cold compress upon the mess I'm in
Threw the window wide and cried; Amen! Amen! Amen!
The whole world - stopped - to hear you hollering
You looked down and saw now what was happening

The lines are fadin' in my kingdom
Though I have never known the way to border 'em in
So the muddy mouths of baboons and sows and the grouse and the horse and the hen
Grope at the gate of the looming lake that was once a tidy pen
And the mail is late and the great estates are not lit from within
The talk in town's becoming downright sickening

In due time we will see the far butte lit by a flare
I've seen your bravery, and I will follow you there
And row through the night time
Gone healthy
Gone healthy all of a sudden
In search of the midwife
Who could help me
Who could help me
Help me find my way back in
There are worries where I've been

Say, say, say in the lee of the bay; don't be bothered
Leave your troubles here where the tugboats shear the water from the water
Flanked by furrows, curling back, like a match held up to a newspaper
Emily, they'll follow your lead by the letter
And I make this claim, and I'm not ashamed to say I know you better
What they've seen is just a beam of your sun that banishes winter

Let us go! Though we know it's a hopeless endeavor
The ties that bind, they are barbed and spined and hold us close forever
Though there is nothing would help me come to grips with a sky that is gaping and yawning
There is a song I woke with on my lips as you sailed your great ship towards the morning

Come on home, the poppies are all grown knee-deep by now
Blossoms all have fallen, and the pollen ruins the plow
Peonies nod in the breeze and while they wetly bow, with
Hydrocephalitic listlessness ants mop up-a their brow

And everything with wings is restless, aimless, drunk and dour
The butterflies and birds collide at hot, ungodly hours
And my clay-colored motherlessness rangily reclines
Come on home, now! All my bones are dolorous with vines

Pa pointed out to me, for the hundredth time tonight
The way the ladle leads to a dirt-red bullet of light
Squint skyward and listen -
Loving him, we move within his borders:
Just asterisms in the stars' set order

We could stand for a century
Starin'
With our heads cocked
In the broad daylight at this thing
Joy
Landlocked
In bodies that don't keep
Dumbstruck with the sweetness of being
Till we don't be
Told; take this
Eat this

Told, the meteorite is the source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee

And the meteorite's just what causes the light
And the meteor's how it's perceived
And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee

I'm not a real doctor but
I am a real worm, I am an actual worm
I live like a worm and

I like to play the drums
I think I'm getting good but I can handle criticism
I'll show you what I know
And you can tell me if you think I'm getting better on the drums
I'm not a real doctor but they call me Dr. Worm

Has some quarters in her hand.
But she sits down on the sidewalk
and bites her bottom lip,
and spends the afternoon
willing traffic-lights to change.

1649, Saint George's Hill,
A ragged band they called the Diggers came to show the people's will,
They defied the landlords, they defied the laws,
They were the dispossessed reclaiming what was theirs.

"We come in peace" they said, "to dig and sow,
We come to work the land in common and to make the wastelands grow,
This earth divided we will make whole,
So it can be a common treasury for all.

The sin of property we do disdain,
No-one has any right to buy and sell the Earth for private gain,
By theft and murder they took the land,
Now everywhere the walls rise up at their command.

They make the laws to chain us well,
The clergy dazzle us with heaven or they damn us into hell,
We will not worship the God they serve,
The God of greed who feeds the rich while poor men starve.

We work, we eat together, we need no swords,
We will not bow to the masters or pay rent unto the lords,
We are free men, though we are poor,
You Diggers all stand up for glory, stand up now."

From the men of property, the orders came,
They sent hired men and troopers to wipe out the Diggers' claim,
Tear down their cottages, destroy their corn,
They were dispersed but still their vision lingers on.

You poor take courage, you rich take care,
The Earth was made a common treasury for everyone to share,
All things in common, all people one,
"We come in peace," the order came to cut them down.

I'm reviving this thread in honor of this comic (http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=196) by Kate Beaton!

Czolgosz, workin' man
Born in the middle of Michigan
Woke with a thought and away he ran
To the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo... in Buffalo

Saw all of a sudden how things were run
Said, "Time's a-wastin', it's nineteen-one
Some men have everything and some have none, so rise and shine
In the USA you can work your way to the head of the line"

Single line, ladies and gentlemen! Line forms here to meet the president of the United States! Single line to shake hands with president William McKinely!

Czolgosz, quiet man
Worked on a quiet and simple plan
Strolled on a morning all spic-and-span
To the Temple of Music by the Tower of Light
At the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo... in Buffalo

Saw Bill McKinely there in the sun
Heard Bill McKinely say, "Folks have fun
Some men have everything and some have none, but that's just fine
In the USA you can work your way to the head of the line!"

Big Bill!
Gave 'em a thrill
Big Bill!
Sold 'em a bill
Big Bill!
Who'd wanna kill a man of good will like
Big Bill!

Doesn't the president look marvelous? So round, and prosperous!
Do you know what his favorite dish is? It was in the paper - beef!
I'm told that in his spare time he enjoys collecting coins!

Czolgosz, angry man
Said, "I will do what a poor man can
Yes, and there's no where more fitting than
At the Temple of Music by the Tower of Light between the Fountain of Abundance and the Court of Lilies
At the great Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo... in Buffalo

Wrapped him a handkerchief 'round his gun
Said, "Nothin' wrong about what I'd done
Some men have everything and some have none, that's by design
The idea wasn't mine alone but mine, and that's the sign

In the USA you can have your say
You can set your goals and seize the day
You've been given the freedom to work your way to the head of the line
To the head of the line

Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play
They've been going in and out of style
But they're guaranteed to raise a smile
So may I introduce to you
The act you've known for all these years
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

We're Sgt. Lonely Hearts Club Band
We hope you will enjoy the show
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Sit back and let the evening go.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely,
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

It's wonderful to be here
It's certainly a thrill
We'd like to take you home with us
We'd love to take you home

I don't really want to stop the show
But I thought that you might like to know
That the singer's going to sing a song
And he wants you all to sing along.
So let me introduce to you
The one and only Billy Shears
And Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

This thread needs more misery.

Scratch my leg with a rusty nail, sadly it heals
Colour my hair but the dye grows out
I cant seem to stay a fixed ideal
Childhood pictures redeem, clean and so serene
See myself without running lines
Whole days throwing sticks into streams
I have crawled so far sideways
I recognise dim traces of creation
I wanna die, die in the summertime
The hole in my life even stains the soil
My heart shrinks to barely a pulse
A tiny animal curled into a quarter circle
If you really care wash the feet of a beggar
I have crawled so far sideways
I recognise dim traces of creation
I wanna die, die in the summertime
I have crawled so far sideways
I recognise dim traces of creation
I wanna die, die in the summertime.

That's better.

The truly horrifying bit about the song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zt8kSHS1-RE) is bearing in mind what happened shortly afterwards the writer probably meant every word.

And if I wasn't a fat kid in high school
I would have never listened to punk rock
And if I knew how to throw a football
I would have never played any music
And if I never got my heart broken
I would sing blah blah fucking nothing
And if you didn't fuck my ex-girlfriend
I would still owe you three-thousand dollars
And if I never lived in a van
I wouldn't have met Chris or Steve or James, Alex or Middagh.
And if I never lived in a worked in a basement
I would have never quit my job.
And if I had a big emo band
or dropped out of college
I would have never met you, man.

He would see faces in movies, on TV, in magazines, and in books
He thought that some of these faces might be right for him
And that through the years, by keeing an ideal facial structure fixed in his mind
Or somewhere in the back of his mind
That he might, by force of will, cause his face to approach those of his ideals
The change would be very subtle
It might take ten years or so
But gradually his face would change its' shape
A more hooked nose
Wider, thinner lips
Beady eyes
A larger forehead.

He imagined that this was an ability he shared with most other people
That they had also molded their faced according to some ideal
Maybe they imagined that their new face would better suit their personality
Or maybe they imagined that their personality would be forced to change to fit the new appearance

This is why first impressions are often correct

Although some people might have made mistakes
They may have arrived at an appearance that bears no relationship to them
They may have picked an ideal appearance based on some childish whim, or momentary impulse
Some may have gotten half-way there, and then changed their minds

He wonders if he too might have made a similar mistake.

Joe Cocker does the best version of that song.

Well, they blew up the chicken man in Philly last night,
Now, they blew up his house, too.
Down on the boardwalk they're getting ready for a fight.
Gonna see what them racket boys can do.

Now, there's trouble busting in from outta state,
And the DA can't get no relief.
Gonna be a rumble out on the promenade,
And the gambling commissioner's hanging on by the skin of his teeth.

Well now, everything dies, baby, that's a fact,
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty,
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City.

Well, I got a job and tried to put my money away,
But I got the kinda debts that no honest man can pay.
So I drew out what I had from the central trust,
And I bought us two tickets on that coast city bus.

Well now, everything dies, baby, that's a fact,
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty,
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City.

Now our luck may have died and our love may be cold,
But with you forever I'll stay.
We're going out where the sands turns to gold,
Put on your stockings on 'cause it might get cold.

Well now, everything dies, baby, that's a fact,
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty,
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City.

Now, I been a-looking for a job, but it's hard to find.
There's winners and there's losers,
And I'm south of that line.
Well, I'm tired of coming out on the losing end,
But I talked to a man last night, gonna do a little favor for him.

Well now, everything dies, baby, that's a fact,
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty,
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City.

Well now, everything dies, baby, that's a fact,
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty,
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City.

I flew beyond the sun before it was time
Burning all the gold that held me inside my shell
Waiting for you to pull me back in
I almost sat the world in my sights

Lost, love bright eyes fading
Faster than stars falling
How can I tell you that I failed?
Tell you I failed

Fallen from grace 'cause I been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost in oblivion

I tried to bore a hole into the ground
Breaking all the fingers and the nails from my hand
The eyes of the child see no wrong
Ignorant bliss impending doom

Lost, love bright eyes fading
Faster than stars falling
How can I tell you that I failed?
Tell you I failed

Fallen from grace 'cause I been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost
Now I'm lost in oblivion

In oblivion

The pleasure in your beautiful, sparkly eyes
Just like a phoenix
My appetite knows no limit

I want to eat your collarbone and your arms
Your brain and your eyeballs, my beloved
I'm greedy

Pomegranate ♥ My love tastes of pomegranate
You are the prisoner of my bone-breaking embrace

I want to feel the joy of swimming
In the sea of your fresh dripping blood
Just like a set of matching dolls
I want to snuggle up to you and act sweet

I will eat your collarbone and your arms
Your brain and your eyeballs, my beloved
I'm selfish

Pomegranate ♥ My love tastes of pomegranate
Broken pieces are half-visible in a bordered hole

Yeah, I'll be all right

And we will make love
We won't have to fight
We won't have to speak
And we won't have to lie

Stop scratching out lines
I won't have to fake
And it won't have to rhyme

Lovely Rita, meter maid
Nothing can come between us
When it gets dark I tow your heart away

Standing by a parking meter
When I caught a glimpse of Rita
Filling in the ticket in a little whit book
In a cap, she looked much older
And the bag across her shoulder
Made her look a little like a military man

Lovely Rita, meter maid
May I inquire discreetly
When are you free to take some tea with me?

Crawling around in my meaningless self

So all my emotions are tucked inside
So attack

Crime without reason does exist

Something's missing from my ears
Does love awaken from an ugly cry?
Something's missing from my voice

Wipe blood with blood and hail to justice
So attack

Has my heart gone mad?

Now some actual lyrics:

Drinking in the morning sun
Blinking in the morning sun
Shaking off the heavy one
Heavy like a loaded gun

What made me behave that way?
Using words I never say
I can only think it must be love
Oh, anyway, it's looking like a beautiful day

Someone tell me how I feel
It's silly wrong but vivid right
Oh, kiss me like the final meal
Yeah, kiss me like we die tonight

Cause holy cow, I love your eyes
And only now I see the light
Yeah, lying with me half-awake
Oh, anyway, it's looking like a beautiful day

When my face is chamois-creased
If you think I'll wink, I did
Laugh politely at repeats
Yeah, kiss me when my lips are thin

Cause holy cow, I love your eyes
And only now I see you like
Yeah, lying with me half-awake
Stumbling over what to say
Well, anyway, it's looking like a beautiful day

So throw those curtains wide!
One day like this a year'd see me right!

Just a quiet backwater facility among the stars
And then one day I was minding my own business
I was mining my own ore
And there he was...

Space Asshole
In a truck flying off the ridge
Space Asshole
Smashing through our bridge
And as he landed, out came his hammer, smashed my boss right in the face
Space Asshole
Planting charges left and right
Space Asshole
All he does is annihilate and fight

I didn't sign up for this, I just wanted to get away
Somewhere remote
Just a place where I could earn myself a day's pay
Without being smote
But every time I think I'm safe
Every time I think it's calm
I'm wrong...

Space Asshole
Hammer swinging buildings falling down
Space Asshole
Laying waste to this entire town

All the rest are dead
Space Asshole has prevailed
Only I am left alive to tell the tale

Of Space Asshole
Comes out of nowhere to destroy

It's gonna be too hot to breathe today
And everybody's out here on the streets
Somebody's opened up the fire hydrant
Cold water rushing out in sheets
Some kid in a Marcus Allen jersey
Asks me for a cigarette
Companionship is where you find it
So I take what I can get

Hubcaps on the cars like funhouse mirrors
Stick to the shadows when I can
Lovecraft in Brooklyn

When the sun goes down the armies of the voiceless
Several hundred thousand strong
Come out without their bandages
Their voices raised in song
When the streetlights sputter out
They make this awful sizzling sound
I cast my gaze toward the pavement
Too many bloodstains on the ground

Rhode Island drops into the ocean
No place to call home anymore
Lovecraft in Brooklyn

Head outside most every day
to try to keep the wolves away
Imagine nice things I might say
If company should come

Woke up afraid of my own shadow
Like, genuinely afraid
Headed for the pawn shop
To buy myself a switchblade
Someday something's coming
From way out beyond the stars
To kill us while we stand here
It'll store our brains in mason jars

And then a girl behind the counter
She asks me how I feel today
I feel like Lovecraft in Brooklyn

Don't say a word if there is any doubt.

You say you're sorry for the things that you've done.
You say you're sorry but you know you don't mean it.
I wouldn't worry. I had so much fun.

this is a good way to kill them.

You wanna throw me away but I'm not broken.

I forgot my smiling face somewhere
Alone in my room, I looked at old pictures
Memories of you and a summer day last year

You talked about breaking up without even the slightest tinge of guilt
You summoned a woman in heavy makeup and said, "I'm with her"

Without thinking, I grabbed the kitchen knife — the two of you will die now

I suddenly came back to my senses and looked over the room
Their two corpses were lying in a sea of blood

I cut up their limbs into small pieces and stuffed them in a garbage bag
I went to throw it away on a mountain far away, in a place that no one knows

You see them walk the streets
These children of the undead look
Dressed for the endless Halloweens
And this horror-like production
Takes total dedication
Of black clothes and pale complexions
Rock jet-black hair to match their make-up

And who can blame them?
They walk through asphalt cemetaries
These zombie fashions
They must have been born that way
Can you hear me?
Can you get hip to what I'm saying?
These fashion zombies
Don't walk this world alone

So lock those doors and windows
They crawl the malls to shop
For tight black jeans and spiky belts
And scissors for the Zelda cut
And there is no explanation
These creatures are just victims
Dressed in expensive fashions
To look like they crawled out of coffins

And who can blame them?

My voice
It was cutting him up
Now he's aiming
His first shot grazed my eye
I lost half of my sight
And my firstborn's life
The second shot grazed off my guitar moon
And it made my guitar kinda play out of tune
But I just kept playing
Like I had nothing to lose
He turned the third on himself
'Cause the bastard knew
Salvation I'm calling
Salvation

Salvation
Salvation
Salvation
I'm calling
Salvation

Put the gun down
Put the gun down

This one time,
I was running through the fields
When I came across a dead guy
With a letter in his hand,
So I scanned it,
And though the grammar was okay,
There was such a lack of purpose
That it was difficult to care.

But anyway, hidden in the mess of letters lies the awful truth,
Yeah, that Emma's mum and dad use plastic forks.
Yeah, nothing in this world can take her common shame away,
Yeah, 'cause Emma's mum and dad use plastic forks.

The next day (about ten o'clock)
It was playing on my mind (well, I say it was)
So I edited it for context (good job)
Till there was nothing fit to print.

But anyway, hidden in the mess of letters lies the awful truth,
Yeah, that Emma's mum and dad use plastic forks.
Woah, but nothing in this life can take her common shame away,
Yeah, 'cause Emma's mum and dad use plastic forks.

Maybe it's an old cliché, but sometimes things are better left expected.
You let your manatee down and then you drown: that's just the way with nature.
I've been here once or twice before with better hair, and let me tell you,
Only the good die young, except for when they don't, it's not exactly fair.

Yeah yeah yeah yeah, it'll never be a kingdom's share.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, it'll never be a kingdom's share.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, it'll never be a kingdom's share.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, it'll never be a kingdom's share.

I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you
But I get the feeling that you don't like it
What's with all the screaming?
You like monkeys, you like ponies
Maybe you don't like monsters so much
Maybe I used too many monkeys
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

When I call you up
Your line's engaged
I have had enough
So act your age
We have lost the time
That was so hard to find
And I will lose my mind

If you won't see me (you won't see me)
You won't see me (you won't see me)

I don't know why you
Should want to hide
But I can't get through
My hands are tied
I won't want to stay
I don't have much to say
But I get turned away

And you won't see me (you won't see me)
You won't see me (you won't see me)

You should have been an angel, it would’ve suited you
My gold-leafed triptych angel, she knows just what to do
In the half light of morning, in a world between the sheets
I swear I saw her angel wing, my vision was complete

And I know I’ll never want another lover, my sweet
Can there be more in this world than the
Joy of just watching you sleep?
I don’t know just what to feel
Won’t someone tell me my love’s real?

Are we etched in stone or just scratched in the sand
Waiting for the waves to come and reclaim the land?
Will the sun shine all sweetness and light
Burn us to a cinder, our third stone satellite?
I’m on a tightrope, baby, nine miles high
Striding through the clouds, on my ribbon in the sky

I’m on a tightrope, one thing I’ve found
I don’t know how to stop, and it’s a
Long, long, long, long way down

She’s all that ever mattered, and all that ever will
My cup, it runneth over, I’ll never get my fill
The boats in the harbour, slip from their chains
Head for new horizons, let’s do the same
I’m on a tightrope, baby, nine miles high
Striding through the clouds, on my ribbon in the sky
I’m on a tightrope, one thing I’ve found
I don’t know how to stop, and it’s a tightrope baby
Nine miles high
Striding through the clouds, on my ribbon in the sky
I’m on a tightrope, one thing I’ve found

Soldiers of light storming my brain
Day, have I the guts to greet you?
Alarm clock tomorrow, cradle to the grave

Working full-time

Vigilant people
In the cult of enterprise
Lean into the day
With all your heart and mind
We were not made to fear the morning
Put down, put under and put on
We are not what we once were
We will be all undone

Working full-time

We won't be undersold

I'll find my wealth all about me
Shake the hand that rakes the common temper
It's your kindness that gives life to my mind
I want to wake up every morning full of wonder

Momma's got a squeezebox she wears on her chest
And when Daddy comes home, he never gets no rest
'Cause she's playing all night
And the music's alright
Momma's got a squeezebox, Daddy never sleeps at night

Well, the kids don't eat, and the dog can't sleep
There's no escape from the music in the whole damn street
'Cause she's playing all night
And the music's alright
Momma's got a squeezebox, Daddy never sleeps at night

She goes in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out
'Cause she's playing all night
And the music's alright
Momma's got a squeezebox, Daddy never sleeps at night

I can't stand to think about
A heart so big it hurts like hell
Oh my God I gave my best
But for three whole years to end like this

Well do you want to fall apart
I can't stop if you cant start
Do you want to fall apart
I could if you can try to fix what I've undone
Cause I hate what I've become

You know me,
Oh you think you do you, you just dont seem to see
I've been waiting all this time to be
Something I can't define so let's
Cause a scene
Clap our hands and stomp our feet or something
Yeah something
I've just got to get myself over me

There’s nothing less cool than feeling exhausted from hours of not doing a damn thing at all.
Not thrilling to chill, steal bandwidth and cable, give shouts to employers and wait for the call.
There’s a light shining out from the windowsill not content to project all day long.
Maybe I could walk a little to the library. Closed. Maybe I could do this right for once and get my ducks in a row,

And just stop talking trash or whatever they say.
Make the bed, sweep the floor, shake the carpet and spray.
Put my shit in a pile, on the top slap a post-it
“Don’t worry, someday your skill set will be wanted.”
But today everybody is a little tired, it’s Wednesday.
So at 10:00 I’m walking down a chilly Boerum to Broadway.

And it’s you and me and a tallboy of Colt 45 or Bud Light. What’s the cheapest one?
Get through one more night. I drink fast, I don’t savor. Each way takes an hour and at twelve, I’ll be gone.

Our love is over
They're all ahead now
I've got to learn it

I'll sing my song to the wide open spaces
I'll sing my heart out to the infinite sea

Dans le port d’Amsterdam
Y a des marins qui chantent
Les rêves qui les hantent
Au large d’Amsterdam

Dans le port d’Amsterdam
Y a des marins qui dorment
Comme des oriflammes
Le long des berges mornes

Dans le port d’Amsterdam
Y a des marins qui meurent
Pleins de bière et de drames
Aux premières lueurs

Mais dans le port d’Amsterdam
Y a des marins qui naissent
Dans la chaleur épaisse
Des langueurs océanes

Dans le port d’Amsterdam
Y a des marins qui mangent
Sur des nappes trop blanches
Des poissons ruisselants
Ils vous montrent des dents
A croquer la fortune
A décroisser la lune
A bouffer des haubans

Et ça sent la morue
Jusque dans le coeur des frites
Que leurs grosses mains invitent
A revenir en plus
Puis se lèvent en riant
Dans un bruit de tempête
Referment leur braguette
Et sortent en rotant

Dans le port d’Amsterdam
Y a des marins qui dansent
En se frottant la panse
Sur la panse des femmes

Et ils tournent et ils dansent
Comme des soleils crachés
Dans le son déchiré
D’un accordéon rance

Ils se tordent le cou
Pour mieux s’entendre rire
Jusqu’à ce que tout à coup
L’accordéon expire
Alors le geste grave
Alors le regard fier
Ils ramènent leur batave
Jusqu’en pleine lumière

Dans le port d’Amsterdam
Y a des marins qui boivent
Et qui boivent et reboivent
Et qui reboivent encore

Ils boivent à la santé
Des putains d’Amsterdam
De Hambourg ou d’ailleurs
Enfin ils boivent aux dames

Qui leur donnent leur joli corps
Qui leur donnent leur vertu
Pour une pièce en or
Et quand ils ont bien bu
Se plantent le nez au ciel
Se mouchent dans les étoiles
Et ils pissent comme je pleure
Sur les femmes infidèles

Dans le port d’Amsterdam

Dans le port d’Amsterdam

Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

There's something inside me
That pulls beneath the surface
Consuming, confusing
This lack of self control I fear
Is never ending, controlling

I can't seem to find myself again
My walls are closing in
(Without a sense of confidence)
(I'm convinced that there's)
(Just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before so insecure

Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

Discomfort, endlessly has pulled
Itself upon me distracting, reacting
Against my will I stand beside my own reflection
It's haunting how I can't seem

To find myself again
My walls are closing in
(Without a sense of confidence)
(I'm convinced that there's)

Blind date with the chancer, we had oysters and dry lancers
And the check, when it arrived, we went dutch, dutch, dutch, dutch
A redder shade of neck on a whiter shade of trash
And this emery board is giving me a rash

I'm flat out
You're so beautiful to look at when you cry
Freeze, don't move
You've been chosen as an extra in the movie adaptation of the sequel to your life

A shady lane, everybody wants one, a shady lane, everybody needs one
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh your god, oh his god, oh her god
It's everybody's god, it's everybody's god, it's everybody's god, it's everybody's god
The worlds collide, but all that we want is a shady lane

Glance, don't stare
Soon you're being told to recognize your heirs
No, not me
I'm an island of such great complexity

Distress surrounds
In the muddy peaceful center of this town
Tell me off
In the hotel lobby right in front of all the bellboys and the over-friendly concierge

A shady lane, everybody wants one, a shady lane, everybody needs one
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh your god, oh his god, oh her god

You want your god to come and take your pain away
Your Christian god will always say that he is your friend
But I know for fact that all he wants is to give you head

Join your faggot god

With open mouth he kneels
Ready to give head

Dave was a lost cause, a real psycho
Spent half his time wishing he was a man
Rather than being a man
To educate his own will, he puts people in boxes
Head first then legs then something else

Dave was a good lad, a true buffoon
Spent hundreds of pounds exciting himself
Instead of just stemming the blood
To prophecise his own death, he puts people in boxes
Head first then legs then something else

Wine, wine, wine on the floor
Who needs a family doctor?
We knew it all along

Wine, wine, wine on the floor
Who needs a family doctor?
Who needs a vent?

Dave what a good man but for God's sake
Make allowances for breakfast
Make allowances for cowards
He chewed at his own wrist and puts people in boxes
Head first then legs then something else

Wine, wine, wine on the floor
Who needs a family doctor?
We knew it all along

We were schooner-rigged and rakish, with a long and lissome hull,
And we flew the pretty colours of the crossbones and the skull;
We'd a big black Jolly Roger flapping grimly at the fore,
And we sailed the Spanish Water in the happy days of yore.

We'd a long brass gun amidships, like a well-conducted ship,
We had each a brace of pistols and a cutlass at the hip;
It's a point which tells against us, and a fact to be deplored,
But we chased the goodly merchant-men and laid their ships aboard.

Then the dead men fouled the scuppers and the wounded filled the chains,
And the paint-work all was spatter dashed with other peoples brains,
She was boarded, she was looted, she was scuttled till she sank.
And the pale survivors left us by the medium of the plank.

The stars collected.
Each world accounted for.
Freed all the children.
Seems there's nothing more.

If I only had a rowboat, I would row it up to heaven.
And if heaven will not have me, I will take the other option.
I will seek out my own satisfaction.

From the wight lying in the barrow,
To the priest with his broken arrows.
There's a method to the madness.
They will feign an expression of sadness.
A concatenation of locusts,
And the farmers are losing their focus.
On the pitch of the Avenroe grasses
I will sing, sing, sing to the masses
Oh Heartland, up yours!

The hollow voice of our 14th century.
Too much assumption to be taken seriously.

Oh, you wrote me like a Disney kid, in cut-offs and a beater
With a feathered fringe, it doesn't suit a simoniac breeder.
Doesn't work, doesn't fly, doesn't handle.

From the wight lying in the barrow,
To the priest with his broken arrows.
There's a method to the madness.
They will feign an expression of sadness.
A concatenation of locusts,
And the farmers are losing their focus.
On the pitch of the Avenroe grasses

Oh Heartland, up yours!

Outside my window
Not long before sleep arrives
They come with their sirens
And they sweep away all the boys
Busy draining the joy from their lives
They never said their prayers out loud

And while I'm dreaming
There's a passing motor car
That broadcasts a popular song
And a girl appears to be saying
"Do you think that I'm going to go far?"

Just look at me
I'm having the time of my life
Or something quite like it
When I'm walking out and about
In London's brilliant parade

She's one of those girls that you just can't place
You feel guilty desiring such an innocent face
But of course they knew that when they cast her
Along with the red Routemaster
And the film takes place in an MGB
And a perfect re-creation of "The Speakeasy"
Everybody looks happy and twisted
Though she probably never existed
For old times' sake
Don't let me awake

I wouldn't want you to walk across Hungerford Bridge
Especially at twilight
Looking through the bolts and the girders
Into the water below
You'll never find your answer there

They sounded the "all-clear" in the occidental bazaar
They used to call Oxford Street
Now the bankrupt souls in the city
Are finally tasting defeat

Don't look at me
I'm having the time of my life
Or something quite like it
When I'm walking out and about
In London's brilliant parade
When I'm walking out and about
In London's brilliant parade

From the gates of St. Mary's, there were horses in Olympia
And a trolley bus in Fulham Broadway
The lions and the tigers in Regents Park
Couldn't pay their way
And now they're not the only ones

At the Hammersmith Palais
In Kensington and Camden Town
There's a part that I used to play;
The lovely Diorama is really part of the drama, I'd say

Just look at me
I'm having the time of my life
Or something quite like it

Let me go back to a comfortable analogy for me
Sports, oh yeah, basketball
I use it because you're naive if you don't see
The national full court press that's picking away right now

A good point guard drives
Through a full court press
Protecting the ball
Keeping her eye on the basket
She knows exactly when to pass the ball
So the team can win

And I'm doing that
Keeping our eye on the ball
That represents sound priorities
Smaller government
Energy independence
And national security

And freedom
And I know when it's time to pass the ball
For victory
I have given my reasons candidly and truthfully

I don't want to disappoint anyone with my decision
All I ask is you trust me with this decision
But it's no more "politics as usual"

Some Alaskans don't mind
Wasting public dollars and state time
But I do

I cannot stand here as your governor and allow millions of our dollars to go to waste
Just so I can hold the title of governor
And my children won't allow it either
Finally polling the most important people in my life
My children

Where the count was unanimous
Well, in response to asking
"Want me to make a positive difference and fight for all our children's futures from outside the governor's office?"
It was four "yes's" and one "hell yeah"
The "hell yeah" sealed it
Someday I think I'll talk about, I'll talk about the details of that

I think, oh
Much of it had to do with the kids
Seeing their baby brother Trig
Mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults
Oh, recently
Um
By the way
Sure wish folks would ever ever understand that we could all learn so much from someone like Trig

And that's why I'm resigning

and everyday there's a little less difference between the two.
I belly-up and disappear.
Well I ain't really drowning 'cause I see the beach from here.

I could take a Greyhound home but when I got there it'd be gone
along with everything a home is made up of.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take all of what you got

Sister, listen to what your daddy says.
Don't be ashamed of things that hide behind your dress.
Belly-up and arch your back.
Well I ain't really falling asleep; I'm fading to black.

You could come to me by plane, but that wouldn't be the same
as that old motel room in Texarkana was.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take all of what you got

Stop me if you've heard this one before:
A man walks into a bar and leaves before his ashes hit the floor.
Stop me if I ever get that far.
The sun's a desperate star that burns like every single one before.

And I could find another dream,
one that keeps me warm and clean
but I ain't dreamin' anymore, I'm waking up.

And the world moves in slow-mo
Straight to my head
like the first cigarette of the day

And it's you, and it's May
And we're sleeping through the day
And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away

Do I have time?
A man of my calibre
Stood in the street like a sleepwalking teenager
No.
And I dealt with this years ago
I took a hammer to every memento
But image on image like beads on a rosary
pulled through my head as the music takes hold
and the sickener hits;
I can work till I break
but I love the bones of you
That I will never escape

And it's you, and it's May
And we're sleeping through the day
And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away

And I can't move my arm
Through the fear that you will wake
And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away

it's going to be a fine night tonight.
it's going to be a fine day tomorrow.

it's a fine day. people open windows. they leave their houses just for a short while.
they walk by the garden and they look at the grass. they look at the sky.

Even though you're well intentioned
One or two or three things you mentioned
Leave a taste familiar to me so
Even with a slight sarcastic
ripple in a voice elastic
I could crack the slightest code of woe

What do you mean?
Evil has never loved you
Evil has never loved you
Evil has never loved you as I do

Find it at the further reaches
Smelling like a rose or peaches
Crippling the hardest pig nose shell
Find it when I look in your eyes
A little spark that would be kingsize
The mirror does no justice to your spell

I'm zero, don't waste words with me
Here's not the chamber for it

What do you mean?
Evil has never loved you
Evil has never loved you
Evil has never loved you as I do
What do you mean?
Nobody has ever loved you
Nobody has ever loved you
Nobody has ever loved you like I do

Well, the Pony was funky
The Watusi was kinda smooth
But the problem with all those old dance steps was you had to move
Well, I got a brand new step and it doesn't take anything to get this groove on

Yeah they're doing the standing still
Yeah they're doing the standing still
And they're doing the standing still
Yeah they're doing the standing still, hey!

It's a sensation, across the entire nation
A hundred million kids all dancing in suspended animation
And if the feeling's alright
We'll be standing still until the morning light, yeah!

And they're doing the standing still
Yeah they're doing the standing still
Yeah they're doing the standing still
Yeah they're doing the standing still, hey!

I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed
Oh, my aching head.

In Fargo, six or seven kids
Watched the Plan in a strip-mall
I thought they were bored out of their skulls
But it turns out they were having a ball
Well, I finally knew
They were doing the brand new step everybody ISN'T moving to

And they're doing the standing still
Yeah they're doing the standing still
And they're doing the standing still
Yeah they're doing the standing still, yeah!

Wait!
It isn't so great
Since you learned karate chop-chop-chop-chop-chop
You're walkin' machs and I'm just
Swimmin' in the slop-slop-slop-slop-slop

You wave your wand at me and
Make me dance flip-flop-flip-flop-flip
I want to sing for you and
Make your head go pop-pop-pop-pop-pop

The Inuit man
Had not so much a caesar
He had provision

Said

"You're sprayin' in the windy
And I'm just pissin' off-off-off-off-off
I'm literally deaf down here from
Your canned philosoph-soph-soph-soph

Softly, can you hear me?
Through the suckin' of your quaff-quaff-quaff-quaff quaff
I'm Thalassocracy and you're just Romanov-ov-ov-ov"

The Inuit man
Had not so much a caesar
He had provision

街に出かけよう 一人でいたって 暗いだけでしょ
ループして 落ち込んで なおさら ah 悩んじゃって
外に飛び出そう 心配イラナイ
大昔から 地球だってまわってる
きっと ツキだってまわるよ

Brand-New Love Song Halle, hallelujah!

Groovy Love Song Halle, hallelujah!
ヤなこと忘れ愛し合おう
同情な現状 頑丈な友情
動かなくちゃダメな時 いつもある

Dancing in the street
Grooving to the light through the night

Brand-New Love Song Halle, hallelujah!
みんなハジけて愛し合おう
Groovy Love Song Halle, hallelujah!
ヤなこと忘れ愛し合おう
Brand-New Love Song Halle, hallelujah!
明日のために踊ろう
Groovy Love Song Halle, hallelujah!
動かなくちゃダメな時 いつもある
