Default Magic & Swords & Exposed Cleavage: Let's List the TOP 50 FANTASY NOVELS

Yup it's time. Time to get all angry over fantasy books.

Rules
  • Vote for at least one, and at most 25, Fantasy Novels. Rank your books in order of preference. #1 will be granted 25 points while #2 will be granted 24, and so on. I mean it. Rank your list. If you send me one with no numbers I will be very mad.
  • Let's talk genre. These things can get pretty fast and loose and the last thing we want is a bunch of nerds arguing over what defines fantasy (or is it the thing we want most?????). So list what you will but if you put forth a book with a spaceship on the cover you're going to get some dirty looks.
  • Fantasy series can get pretty long and some people proposed listing series as one entry, but I want to celebrate individual novels. That said, I think we all want some variety in the final fifty, so if you're listing every Game of Thrones or Star Wars book, maybe consider just picking one or two of your favorites.
  • Please no gag lists. It's a lot of work putting these together and funny lists of non-entries just add to the load. Maybe if you have a funny list just post it in the thread where everyone can see?
  • Submit your list to me via PM by 11:59 Eastern on January 15th.
  • No anime.

Default Sorry, didn't mean to try influence the jury

My biggest problem with only picking a single book out of a series is that it may dilute some votes, like if if I pick Book 2 and Shivam picks Book 3 of a trilogy, even though they're both the same series that's only one vote for two different thirds of a much larger story. Though that does that sense why you would do it for it for a longer series of stand alone books or series, like with the Mumblemumblemumble or Rhubarbrhubarbrhubarb.

I still feel like individual volumes in series can be stronger than others.

That said, Lord of the Rings should be considered a single work, as it was written as such and it was the publisher what split it up to reduce costs.

Also I would strongly consider that we call for complete banning of any namedropping in this thread. In a lot of ways I consider it an attempt to rig the list in favor of the books you like.

Yeah, it's understandable for very specific, unique cases, but I think it's for the best to just keep your choices a surprise. And no colluding please. Did one of these with top 50 movies of the 90's and Cool As Ice got 75 points because 3 friends put it as number one.

This one is going to be tough for me. I can get 25 but 1) I don't read a lot of novels to begin with and 2) don't read a lot of fantasy. But there are enough exceptions that I'll be able to build a full, ramshackle list that will be the list equivalent of a beat up old jalopy.

So this is basically a race for second place, right?

would Loki allow it for me to have blanks in my list? I don't think I can come up with 25, but I'd rather not give the ones I have read (that are probably very popular) so many points.

I don't know if I can fully build a list of 25 that I'd be happy with, but imma try really hard.

But even if I fail I'll still have plenty of things to load up my Kindle with, so I still win.

And winning is all that matters on Internet forums!

I'm still one of those dorks who like physical books.

A full bookshelf is the perfect decor for any room.

Quite so, but I'm running out of walls for bookshelves.

I would contribute but all my votes would be for fake books I just made up.

1.) THE PENTAGULON'S WILL
2.) BETTY AWESOME'S BIG DAY OUT FEATURING HER BEST FRIEND MAGIC ROCKET DRAGON.
3.) THE SWORDSMITH AND THE PRINCE
4.) BILL, THE GUY WHO HAD TO GO ON AN EPIC QUEST AFTER HE PUT THE HERO OF LEGEND IN THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE THAT PUNKASS WOULDN'T STOP STEPPING TO HIM.

And so on.

I am second guessing myself all over with this list. Is vaguely post-apocalyptic sci-fi or fantasy? If I remember liking a series, but not a specific book from that series, should I just vote for the first?

My list is currently sitting at about 70 books and growing.

PROTIP: A single long bookshelf ringing a room 1 foot down from the ceiling (and sitting on top of any doorframes) gives a lot of extra room.

Absolutely not.

1. It doesn't noticeably influence the results.
2. Reminding people of things they'd want to vote for wouldn't be dishonest anyway.
3. It's not a big deal anyway.

Stop harping on this every time we do one of these.

Shyeah, said Bill, and unleashed the sickest jump kick of all.

I don't read any good fantasy; I just read crap. I look forward to shitting up this list with it! There are so many Dragonlance books, you guys!

I was going to make a joke about Terry Goodkind instead, but then I threw up in my mouth.

I'm not sure I read enough fantasy to participate in this, but I'm looking forward to some good book recommendations.
