Holy shit, guys! konami's releasing a special edition complete set of all 25 suikoden OSTs! Needless to say, these are pretty much the best rpg soundtracks of all time, and this is pretty much the best thing ever.

Man, i could wax rhapsodic about each and every track in here, but instead, I'm just gonna say that the jazz disc is bliss.

You know, I've only played about 5-6 hours of Suikoden 1, and the only thing I remember from the game is its amazing soundtrack.

Plus, I remember you raving about the music on Retronauts. I hope enough people pre-order it, so they make it, man. I sure as hell can't afford it.

Suikoden II has some great and poignant music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoWtWTby-Go) (unless you got the "Best" ending which pretty much ruins it).

How many hundreds of dollars is this going to cost?

You know what Konami should do? They should release Suikoden 2 on PSN, which is something that I'd much rather have than a music collection. It's the 15th anniversary for the series!

Whoa. He really is excited!

And Loki, the link says 25,000 yen, which apparently is just over $300 according to Google's exchange rate calculator. So: not cheap!

And that is if you manage to secure an order from konamistyle. Which requires living in Japan, you see.

I see Play-Asia and NCSX jumping through the standard KS hoops and getting a half dozen copies of this apiece - and then attempt to unload them for $400 a pop.

Fun Fact: the "best" ending is the secret worst ending, and the "worst" ending is the secret best ending.

what
Actually 25 discs (650 tracks from 9 games). Which still seems ridiculous, but slightly less so.

Does this count (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/27/next-suikoden-project-is-sadly-a-pachislot-machine/)?

I feel sad for the programmers who have to spend effort making those games.

It's too bad it won't contain any of the arrange albums. The non-vocal albums were good.

I keep wondering why I'm so Meg about most video game music but then I listen to a Suikoden clip and I'm reminded it's because I've been completely spoiled.

You know what Konami should do? They should announce Suikoden 6 which is something that I'd much rather have than a music collection. It's the 15th anniversary for the series!

When I first played Suikoden, I was surprised by how good the soundtrack sounded. The instruments sounded like actual instruments, and not MIDI shit (like Final Fantasy VII). Suikoden 1 still has one of my all-time favorite video game soundtracks.

Goddamn, that banjo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CblYMElouO4). Goddamn.

Don't you already own most of these albums anyway? You're like our forum's #2 Suikowhore.

yeah, but i don't own most of them in a physical form anymore, and the box and art and all that.

Huh, they let their casino and video games peoples mingle in Japan, hm?

One of the weirdest things about Vegas is having a building down by the airport that has a huge "KONAMI" on the side, and yet it's very likely nobody inside even is aware who Solid Snake is. After five years of living, my brain still wakes up when I see it and I have to remind myself that it's not a game factory.

Even though it has no relevance to anything, it makes me sad that the pachislot machine is entirely based on Suikoden 4 of all things...

Who's #1?

Suikoden VI would be awesome, but putting Suikoden II on PSN would take no effort and would have a 97% chance of being awesome and not a repeat of Vandal Hearts Flames Of Judgement.

Who's #1?

Let's put it this way: for Festivus last year, shivam received a Suikoden tabletop role-playing game.

The #1 superfan around here wrote it.

(It is McDohl.)

Kinda like Aria Of Sorrow?

What is the original director of the first 3 Suikoden games doing now?

I've totally been in there. I was confused when I went to Vegas for work the first time, so I walked in and asked if they were, in fact, associated with the Konami that made video games - and though they're a completely separate arm of the company, one of the managers happened to walk by right when I was there and ended up giving me a free tour of the whole facility. So...that was kind of cool.

(unless you got the "Best" ending which pretty much ruins it).

I still don't see why people hate it so much.

Or y'all were just angsty teenagers when you first saw it and a dramatic death seemed better at the time.

No, it's just that I don't particular like how the good ending essentially erases everything that happened during the story and the trio is free to frolic through the world despite everything they've been responsible for because of the power of friendship. It's a bullshit cop-out, particularly the faked death.

Well, actually, the whole thrust of narrative for the last third of the game is about how Jowy and Hero can't be pals because of their runes, and this prolongs an already devastating war to the point that Highland has been driven into the ground. To get to the end and have the game say, "Oh wait they don't have to fight after all, they can keep both their runes and go on a wacky adventure together!" is also a pretty major bullshit cop-out, so I guess the thing I mentioned up there shouldn't have the word "particularly" in it.

I guess I could handle one of the two, but both you don't have to kill your best friend, the whole driving force behind the story has been a lie, followed immediately by oh and your sister is alive too is just too much.

Or maybe it's because LETS ALL BE HAPPY FRIEND BUDDIES RAINBOWSSSSSS is just kind of lame, you know?

Calorie Mate

See, I took the Good Ending as more you were victorious because you were able to bring people together, to befriend a variety of disparate races and tribes. You can only get this ending if you really worked hard and recruited everyone - that is, showed the game that you valued comraderie. Heck, even your half of the rune was the healing half, not the violent half - so finding a way to resolve things that isn't making every last opponent perish was, I think, part of the point.

Totally with you on "Hey, your dead sister is actually ok!" though.

Brickroad

I always read the ending as: Jowy is a colossal dick, but then he quits being a colossal dick.

Nanami, of course, is still a colossal dick.
