Most humorous part? Canada does not exist. So it is a myth!

To be fair, Detroit kind of does look like that.

Isn't that a map of a Japan only RPG game that takes place in America?

Also, Texas isn't much of a mountainous region, so they sort of got that right, depending on where you place boundaries.

My dealings with people from Salt Lake City would point to them to be an entirely cave-dwelling race. So another japanese stereotype confirmed.

I was recently told by an unreliable source that the method the Tengai Makyo team used to design theri games was to get everybody drunk in a room and talk about what would be cool... and then to write that down and make the game.

...That'd explain the ol' US of A there.

Perhaps this method is how all games should be made.

No love for the foothills? Nowhere in Kentucky or Tennessee? I would love to see their take on a hillbilly.

I'm just happy they included Salt Lake City.

Though leaving out other major east coast cities (especially my home town of Philly) disappoints me. Surely Boston, Philly, DC, rate gothic steampunk structures as well!

It wasn't until many years later that I realised Loto's world in Dragon Warrior III is supposed to be "our" world.

No love for the midwest there, most all of it has disappeared since Missouri is adjacent to the Rocky Mountains.

I didn't know I lived in Michigan with Niagara Falls right outside my doorstep. Also it looks like I'm near the northern-most city on the continental USA.

Also, did anyone else notice that Missouri is listed in the style of the cities rather than the larger print that the states are represented by?

Yeah, this is making the rounds again. I wonder if AV minds that he was linkjacked by Digg without a proper link credit. Poor guy, first Penny Arcade Remix and now this.

Who do I have to kill and/or give sexual favors to to play this game? Even if it sucks it would be hilarious explore this world map.

You clearly don't realize how much the game sucks.

Holy balls, Chicago got it's own turrets. I guess now Cubs fans will finally shoot down the Sox fans. That's right Sox fans, you better run.

Probably not, no.

. . .

Actually, if anything, I want to play it because it looks so terrible.

As long as the gameplay is just mediocre and not the worst ever, if I can walk into Chicago or Missouri and talk to villagers who are terrible stereotypes of Americans, then I want to play it.

EDIT: I see it's been remade on the PSP, apparently. (http://tengai.jp/pc/tengaidai4/) Assuming I ever buy a PSP, there is a pretty good chance that I'll pick this up if I can find it used somewhere. It looks wonderfully awful.

Fun fact: until I was recently educated otherwise, I often though that Tengai Makyo and Megami Tensei were somehow related. Boy, was I wrong!

Andrew Vestal developed Tengai Makyou: The Apocalypse IV? Man, he really does get around.

I think my video game journalism history is a bit hazy.

Andrew Vestal was or is the founder of The Gaming Intelligence Agency, a "columnist" for one or more Ziff-Davis magazine(s), and an occasional guest star in Parish's most fearsome nightmare visions (http://www.gamespite.net/toastywiki/index.php/Site/040404).

He also dressed up as a moogle for Halloween back in 1996, way before it was cool (http://silversong.pyoko.org/Moogle.html). And more recently, he put together this awesome thing (http://yukihime.com/comics/paremix).

Wasn't Vestal also in charge of a Final Fantasy site many centuries ago (like in 1994)? When I discovered the Internet, I was a hopeless FF VI nerd, so that was one of the first words I netsearched (ahaha, no Google back then!). I'm almost sure his name's stuck with me all these years. I also remember that particular page melted down my school's network for some reason.

I can't remember whether it was a Final Fantasy site or a more generalize Square/RPG site, but this definitely existed It eventually went through a horrible mutation and became RPGamer, I think.

Unofficial Squaresoft Homepage->Square.net->RPGamer

AV jumped ship when it became RPGamer. RPGamer was cool until the cool people jumped ship, reunited with AV, and made the GIA.

In the future, the teachers from Oaxaca will rise and conquer Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and Veracruz. It's the only explanation.

I was doing a quick cartoon a while ago for a campus newspaper where I had to draw an outline of North America. I forgot to include Canada.

Either way, Andrew V broke my internet cherry. I should tell him sometime.

You can imagine how difficult it is to work a statement like "THAT WOMAN IS MAN. BECAUSE I WAS DECEIVED (http://yukihime.com/comics/paremix/police/deception.jpg)" into normal conversation, but that doesn't mean I haven't been known to try.
