View Full Version : Alice's Thread of Stuff She Makes

02-16-2011, 09:24 PM
I know I'm not the best at anything, but I do like showing what I've done!

Besides, I'm kinda sick of spamming the Random Arting Thread.

Anyway, I like to make things.

This ranges from stuff like free time scribbles in Photoshop:

My Senior Project:

Character Designs for fandoms/Co-created designs with Demo:

Stuff my flash and art teachers tell me to do:

And just random freetime sketches.

I'mma post my stuff in here from now on.

02-16-2011, 09:33 PM
It was tough digging back through the Random Arting Thread for examples of your character for this (http://www.gamespite.net/talkingtime/showpost.php?p=931580&postcount=76), so this poses a convenient resource that is not DeviantArt.

02-16-2011, 09:34 PM
Those designs are so cute! :D

Kate or Die!
02-17-2011, 07:56 PM
Agreed! I like your stuff a lot. Keep it up!

02-18-2011, 05:51 AM
Alice made me something once.

Conclusion: Alice is the best ever.

02-18-2011, 02:34 PM
Beat, you are the best ever.

I did lots of arting today during class!
First off, we've got my first ever attempt at chalk pastels when a girl was a model for us. I failed horribly.

Then, after we finished that, my teacher made us print out poses from Posemaniacs. I decided to challenge myself and use this one. (Turn it twice to the left to see the actual angle) (http://www.posemaniacs.com/?p=363) She then told us to draw it out in white charcoal.

Once we had our sketches done, we then had to color with chalk pastels again and design our own clothing on it. I decided to try plaid pants and something fun, but I really need to redo it. This is nowhere near being done yet.

02-18-2011, 04:00 PM
I think both of those pastel drawings look awesome.

02-18-2011, 07:40 PM
First off, we've got my first ever attempt at chalk pastels when a girl was a model for us. I failed horribly.

No, you fail at failing horribly! That picture is lovely. There's something really calming about it.

02-21-2011, 03:04 AM
Some friends of mine that run an RP site for Angelic Layer have been needing some help with moderating, so I offered a hand.

I know there's no excuse when it comes to the quality of these two, but it's 3 in the morning, the first drawing I had to do several times, and it wasn't as fun.

So these are two more FCs, Lunia Hill and her Angel, Snowdrop, who is heavily inspired by Easter.

02-21-2011, 07:04 PM
Cool stuff all around!

[sewing project]
I meant to say earlier -- goodness, I'm kind of envious that you get to work with a serger.

I have a local friend who has one. She one time decided to make a lighter piece of clothing, but couldn't find a printed fabric that was close enough to what she was looking for -- so she grabbed a few solids that she planned to piece together, and she went to work on 'em.

Taking a second look at a photo she posted, yeah, I could see where there were divisions in the fabric -- but man, the first time I saw the photo (and probably still, with a quick look from an untrained eye), it was hard to distinguish it from printed fabric.

So yeah, you can do awesome stuff with sergers. Or at least, I believe it's easier to do awesome stuff.

02-21-2011, 10:05 PM
Sergers are way easier to work with than just regular machines - They actually sew straight. The biggest setback is how they're threaded, it's a huge process because having three spools of thread to work with makes it odd. (Also, having the built in knife to make things look nice on the inside = ohhhh my god I love it)

Not to mention they can't do curves because of their ability to sew straight. That's when I've had to switch to a regular machine to get things cracking on stuff like my hood, which is going to be done this week, most likely.

02-22-2011, 09:43 PM
Double posting for an update. It's not much of one, but my costume i finally coming together.

Edit; I finished that other pastel drawing today! So after I finished that, I decided to draw a fancharacter from the other day from a backside view, since I've never done it before.

02-25-2011, 12:36 PM
Yet another update for the costume! And a doodle of a soon-to-be character on the site I'm helping out.

03-05-2011, 01:17 PM
I haven't gone to do stuff on my costume since my mentor's in surgery for several cyst removals. But here's some stuff I've done in my spare time!

First off, we've got another portrait of somebody on my Facebook that asked me to draw her. She's another ex-coworker.

Next up is a Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica fancharacter. I joined the bandwagon with some close friends of mine.

And because I didn't have anything to do in class one day, I decided to draw my friends' character and mine in chibi form, cause I also don't really know how to do them. So it was good practice.

Next is the most recent art project. It was like the ones above with chalk pastels, but this time, with an action shot.

And last, more Madoka fanart. This was a 10/20 minute thing in class when I had nothing to do again. It's Charlotte!

03-17-2011, 11:16 PM
So our town is doing a St. Bernard adoption event at the most popular (and most badass) bar/grill in town. They asked our school to do posters for it, and it's a contest!

The top three winners get these prizes:

Poster is copied, posted around town and your original is laminated for safe keeping
Poster's image is put on a T-shirt and you get your designed shirt free
Newspaper article on you/your entry
Letters of recommendation for any art college by the judges

So here's my entry. It's taken at a lame angle because I don't have a scanner/picture is too huge anyway.

Kate or Die!
03-18-2011, 08:56 AM
That looks rad! You should do a digital version of it. My only gripe is the text under Saint-A-Palooza is really frikkin tiny. I wouldn't curve it, and I would break it into two lines: All proceeds will go to the / Saint Bernards of the West Adoption Agency.

03-18-2011, 02:56 PM
That was actually a thing my teacher told me to do. I couldn't think of anything else so I went with her suggestion. And I so will do a digital one, maybe make it a fullbody thing too.

03-18-2011, 04:52 PM

03-20-2011, 02:54 PM
Hey look, a super short update on my costume!

Well, not the costume itself, but accessories.

First off, my gloves are finished! All I gotta do is just hem them now. (The silver one is so freaking itchy)

Next are my shoe covers, which are very close to being finished. The tips are going to be stuffed so it doesn't look as dumb, and elastic will be added to the bottom so it can stay in place. I'll be wearing pure black shoes when I'm in costume, so laces won't be seen, either.

03-20-2011, 04:07 PM
It's coming out pretty well!

Goodness though, yeah, I'm looking at the silver material, and I can understand how it'd be pretty itchy, especially along the inner seam. For a future project, if it doesn't add too much bulk, you might be able to incorporate a really-thin second layer for liner, then sew them & pull it inside-out in such a way that the seam is hidden away even on the inside, so it won't rub & scratch against you.

For right now though, is there like a really-thin evening glove you can wear underneath, perhaps inside-out? (No point wearing it the right way if it's going to be hidden underneath.) Would that be a problem at the more form-fitting fingertips, or is there some stretch to them?

Also, cool art from what you've posted lately!

03-20-2011, 04:17 PM
Considering it's the first pair of gloves I ever made, I probably should have thought about that. But I'll think about it next time.

I'm willing to suffer for about 5 hours when I wear my costume on presentation day.

03-20-2011, 09:23 PM
Do you have a picture of the design as it was designed to look? the mismatched gloves and shoes are interesting

03-20-2011, 10:16 PM
Oh yeah, I've got a picture. c: This is old, but I'm working on a new one right now for my project portfolio at school.

And this one is more recent, but a lot more cartoony looking;

Note how I completely failed with my gloves (Gold one left, Silver one right) whereas my actual design is the opposite (Silver one left, Gold one right). This is because I messed up horribly on trying to read a pattern by myself. I could have fixed it, but I ran out of silver fabric, as there wasn't much to work off of in the first place. :(

03-22-2011, 03:26 PM
That last one reminds me of the art from Mr Driller a bit, which is a very good thing.

03-29-2011, 04:21 PM
Actually, that was inspired by Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. Even though I hated the anime, I loved the art style. I decided to try it out.

Anyway, YAYYYY ART DUMP KINDA (with lots of colored pencils):

First up we've got a redesign of 17 for that Angelic Layer RP site I'm on. I do have a habit of recycling my characters, I love them way too much.

This next one requires a little bit of explaining. This is my other character, Snowdrop, in the AME (Angel Maintenance and Engineering) tube, here Angels get set up (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/riyna_chan/ametubeexample2.jpg) and tune ups. (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/riyna_chan/ametubeexample.jpg)

Up next is Nina, however she's not in her suit.

And then her again, being herself and plotting something possibly entertaining.

This one is a part of an art trade with somebody on FA. It was supposed to be just a sketch, but no color made it look pretty boring.

And last for today is Snowdrop again, however I'm having fun with some costumes for her.

04-01-2011, 12:53 AM
Another costume update! Almost done arrrrgh.

Anyway, here's my belt, made out of buckram and covered with Lycra. I also made myself a gigantic button for a buckle to cover the Velcro, and also did hand stitching with yarn for that. Have a shot of it with my curious puppy.

And today I worked on my hood. It looks like a baby bonnet (which is odd), but when I put it on, it'll be secure and it actually looks nice. Not to mention, the costume is supposed to look extremely childlike.

Kate or Die!
04-01-2011, 01:41 PM
That Snowdrop is cute! Does she have joints or something, like a BJD? I'm not familiar with Angelic Layer.

04-02-2011, 12:22 AM
Yeah, she's supposed to be a little fighting robot. They come in Angel Eggs (http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk203/insane_in_the_membrane123/Anime%20and%20Manga/Angelic%20Layer/angelegg.jpg) when they're bought and personalized/built at home, and it kinda makes me wish such a thing existed. It would be an awesome thing.

edit; Another small update on my costume! Big file, but here's the torso with an Invisizipper.

That's almost like a BJD, they come blank and you have to add eyes, wigs, face paint, etc...and some of them actually come in eggs, too.

I dig the ragdoll-like stitching on the sleeves!

04-02-2011, 11:44 PM
If that's the case, one of these days I must build myself a Snowdrop.

04-05-2011, 10:14 PM
Double post (sorry), but my costume is at last completed! Here's some shots of the completed costume.

And then myself wearing it with all my accessories (no makeup, fuu). I couldn't help myself, I'm too excited.

Also yay, cheap mirror shots!

04-11-2011, 08:52 PM
Hey guys I made a T shirt for Demo.

And myself wearing my own print, along with a puppy.

04-12-2011, 06:33 PM
haha, I was wondering if you'd catch the screen print bug after reading about your adventures with Dumb Art Girl!

you can buy an emulsion of some kind to mix with acrylic paint to turn it into fabric paint. I had an ass-load of acrylic paint already, so it was a good decision (also because I ended up never screen printing anything because my attempts at a handmade screen were fail)

I'm really excited for you about your costume :D It always blows me away when people just make clothing!

04-12-2011, 07:01 PM
The paint that was in class was specifically made for T shirt printing. The whole class has to make a pair of screens and print their own shirt. Dumb Art Girl's fucking hers up tenfold.

Kate or Die!
04-13-2011, 11:58 AM
The emulsion is Golden GAC 900, but it doesn't work as well as textile ink IMHO. What did you use to make the silkscreens? Photo emulsion or Thermafax or hand-cut?

04-13-2011, 01:26 PM
I did photo emulsion with a squeegee, but I had to cut out my design by hand with a razor blade. The screens themselves are just cut up sheer curtains stapled to the frame.

04-20-2011, 06:35 PM

A very sad Jyuunana.

Just Snowdrop and more outfits.

(^ That one's my favorite. :B)

Inspired by a Vocaloid song known as iNSaNiTY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utiQWoZjCzA), where the original picture for inspiration is in that there video.

Another Vocaloid inspired thing, this time by Matryoshka. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JGaQ3g8WU4)

Actual sized Jyuunana being all sad behind that AAMS chip's packaging.

Actual sized Snowdrop with her Deus, Lunia.

Remember Naru? That PMMM fancharacter I have? That's her Witch form.

And last, a picture of Snowdrop while I experimented with Posemaniacs.

04-24-2011, 12:17 AM
I'm having fun with transparency lately.

Pretty sweet!

Kate or Die!
04-25-2011, 12:43 PM
Animal person with a robot hand? Sweet. My super-girly side really loves those Snowdrop drawings :)

04-25-2011, 04:33 PM
That robot handed raccoon's my character Nella, who is a somewhat co-created character with Demo. She's Suko's cousin. The name was a nickname my grandfather would call me, since when I was little he always gave me Nilla Wafers. :p

Thanks; Snowdrop's the creation of my own super-girly side, and a victim of costume design ideas with bright colors. She's been invading a lot of stuff I draw lately.

And now, something else. I decided to digitally color that Saint-A-Palooza thing. Here's the result.

04-30-2011, 09:18 AM
Goodness, almost forgot to ask -- have you already done your presentation for your costume project?

04-30-2011, 08:45 PM
Nah, I do that May 18th. :)

05-02-2011, 08:08 PM
Another Vocaloid inspired thing, this time by Matryoshka. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JGaQ3g8WU4)

Actual sized Jyuunana being all sad behind that AAMS chip's packaging.

I have no idea what anything you ever talk about is, but these are probably the most interesting looking. I think the flat, bright colors are a lot better place to start than the airbrushed looking stuff. It's just a matter of your process being a lot more transparent with the soft brushes, in that someone can see exactly what you did on the computer and that cheapens it.

Anyway, do you like Gitaroo Man? It had some amazing art you might like. I wish they have it archived on Creative Uncut or something.

05-03-2011, 02:13 AM
I've never heard of it before. I'll check it out!

Anyway, proof I'm not art dead! (http://fav.me/d3fh4bu)

05-07-2011, 07:47 PM
The guy that took pictures for me FINALLY sent them. Please excuse how horrible my makeup is, this is after wearing it for around 4 hours and it started to wear off pretty bad. (Also this makeup was put on pretty bad to start with, I need to get better at that.)

05-07-2011, 11:50 PM
neat! :D

05-12-2011, 04:33 PM
Please excuse the big file.

But remember these guys (http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/338/3/b/yukoko_platoon_by_angill_rose-d346il4.png)?

I decided to have fun and make a gijinka edition of 'em.

05-16-2011, 01:01 AM
More artings! I got Paint Tool SAI, so I've been practicing the basics with it.

And then Jyuunana again because I love drawing her.

05-27-2011, 09:43 PM
I decided to whip out my yarn that can't really make anything because there isn't enough of it and tried to make something.

I present to you the ugliest thing ever to be made.

Aww, cute design though. I have something like that I made for Felix...I call it Worst Hat, made with Ugliest Yarn.

I got my cap and gown for high school graduation today! My school allowed decorating of our caps, so I drew a normal Alice on it. I used copic marker and Sharpie, but the gray copic kinda derped up my lineart, so it looks a little funky. But I really like how it turned out!

(Friend that ran away is modeling the cap)

Soren Highwind
06-01-2011, 09:53 PM
That is an awesome hat (cap, whatever). Congratulations on graduating! (soon, anyway)

Seeing that hat reminded me of this ATROCIOUS thing I made in elementary school out of neon orange and blue yarn for class, nostalgia tripping like nothing else.

07-03-2011, 03:48 PM
It's been a while since I posted here! Due to lack of my computer and coloring stuff, I've been sketching a lot lately. All of the other sketches are on my DeviantART, (www.angill-rose.deviantart.com) but I'll just post my favorite I've done so far here.

07-05-2011, 01:37 AM
I now have an Etsy shop! You can check it out here. (http://www.etsy.com/shop/SomewhatNerdy?ref=pr_shop)

07-06-2011, 10:43 AM
I was going to say that reminded me of a character from I think it was Chu's comic?

...then I looked it up, and yeah, that's Chu fanart innit. Nifty. TT officially has fanart of itself!

07-20-2011, 02:40 PM
Colored one of my sketches for fun a couple of days ago. Trying to get used to SAI again.

07-20-2011, 08:53 PM

07-29-2011, 01:14 AM
So I've been knitting a lot lately for the Regretsy fundraiser! Here's some stuff that's going to sell.

09-05-2011, 02:01 AM
So I got bored. I'm kinda tired and not feeling like explaining much of anything, so just have a dump of drawings.

Okay, so I lied and I'm going to explain this last one. I colored a picture my friend drew for me, and she (along with this "group of friends") like to pick on me about me not liking My Little Pony. Yet, they still tolerate me.

09-05-2011, 02:54 AM

Hey, not bad.

09-05-2011, 03:40 AM
I managed to make that one by making a template all on my own from the original Ramona. It was a blast to make.

09-07-2011, 01:18 PM
Heh, I saw it and thought the motion had a certain Paul Robertson and/or Scott Pilgrim feel to it. But no worries, what you ended up with is pretty nice.

10-08-2011, 06:36 PM

Whee. That's really old, but I finally colored it.
And then I didn't draw for a long time!
And I got this as a result when I drew again.

10-08-2011, 07:40 PM
Your art has gotten a lot better in a short amount of time. :D

12-06-2011, 12:35 AM
Today's my first day free of Christmas Retail Stress, so I've taken the chance to doodle a bit.

I've become a Homestuck and I don't deny it one bit. I really like it, but like many things it has flaws. And so does this picture!

Honestly, I don't know why I left my handwriting in it. But I guess it's alright.

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/382904_288017861240168_100000958698313_819830_1218 050672_n.jpg

12-08-2011, 04:09 PM
So I opened up commissions! I'll just leave this here just in case.

03-02-2012, 08:57 PM
Hey look I haven't drawn in months because of stress and work and stuff. Anywho it's a doodle on a receipt paper while work was dead for a good ten minutes.

Did you know pen and receipt paper really don't mix well? Because I sure didn't.

03-04-2012, 10:28 PM
Oh hey look an actual thing! :'D

05-13-2012, 12:06 AM
Trying to get back into the drawing vibe because all work and no play has been making me go nuts.

Also I owe people some drawings and I feel bad so I'm trying to make sure I can at least draw before I even start on that. :(

So these are some stuff I've done over the last couple of months just during my free time and get back into the swing of things.

05-13-2012, 10:15 AM
I favor this plan of DRAW MORE

07-05-2012, 12:12 PM
I'm still trying hard to get back into drawing since I'm so busy, but I think I'm starting to get there so I can finally finish those commissions!

This one was the result of asking Chu for a prompt to get drawing again. I'm personally really happy with how it turned out!

That Old Chestnut
07-07-2012, 09:00 PM

Ha ha ha! I love these! :D

God, the moustache!

I'm still trying hard to get back into drawing since I'm so busy, but I think I'm starting to get there so I can finally finish those commissions!

I can't help but to root for folks working to get better at what they love to do.

Also, I like the clothing designs on your characters.

Thank you so much! I like to design outfits a lot, that means a bunch!

I'm two years LTTP but I finally got my hands on a copy of Pokemon White! A friend of mine is a cool artist and she makes a habit of the Pokejinka business, so I decided to try things out on my own. And hey, another style change! Just as soon as I was gonna get a commission I've been working forever on done ugh GOTTA START OVER

Anyway, one of my favorites I've taken a liking to in the game is Chandelure; I've always thought ghost types were cool but when I saw this adorable fella and I couldn't resist designing a thing off of it. I decided to take a shot at it, and the results!

It's been a while since I've even touched colored pencils, but I wanted to experiment. SUCCESS in my opinion! I'm particularly happy with it. This guy I have as a Chandelure in game, nicknamed Janan.

But then my mind went off to other places and decided to cross over a theory; Both being Nintendo worlds, I thought it would be entertaining if Ghost-type Pokemon had the same weaknesses against sudden light as the ghosts do in Luigi's Mansion.

Annnnd it didn't stop there, either. I wanted to draw Janan what he'd look like before he became Mr. Fire-head, and went back to colored pencils for it.

And that concludes my drawings for the entire month of July. :I

08-04-2012, 03:13 AM
I didn't know you could make colored pencils do cool things! Damn!

That first picture especially is really rad. The pants curling at the bottom is a nice touch.

08-14-2012, 01:06 AM
I amigurumi'd. Specifically, this guy who belongs to a friend. (http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2oz8ge9WT1qzgab1o1_1280.png)

I'm really proud of it because it's the second amigurumi I've made and I'm super excited to give it to her. :D

08-14-2012, 04:18 AM
Duuuude, that's rad! Do you think you could make an amigurumi Crunky one day? http://www.the-weaving.com/images/temp/emot-whee.gif I'd commission you!

08-15-2012, 11:19 AM
Sure! Unless you're the victim of Festivus... >3>

12-21-2012, 01:26 PM
Being busy with school, work, and moving, I've been trying to unwind with some doodles. So here's a few.

And then a little animation thingy i made a couple of months ago.

12-21-2012, 02:41 PM
I'm looking for a doodle of a ninja holding a pastry. I like your art a lot! These two things are quite related.

06-11-2013, 01:36 PM
My stepmother has gotten me some pretty rad painting lessons from one of her customers; a very sweet, still-on-it 90 year old lady who's actually pretty cool to this whippersnapper. Warning; a few page stretchers.

Here's the first one I did!

This one I did for Mother's Day!

And this one has nothing to do with my lessons, but my nephew has been really into the new TMNT, so I painted his favorite turtle for him.

06-11-2013, 03:24 PM
Pretty awesome! Especially like the mountain piece. Of course, living in view of mountains, I'm kinda biased.

06-11-2013, 06:22 PM
Bob Ross approves.

Sir Sly Ry
06-18-2013, 03:17 PM
Yeah I dig the mountain one too.
