At irregular intervals I am going to post picture of shoes, of styles for chicks and for dudes, that please me on some level. sometimes that level is penis

http://i.imgur.com/3h6l6.jpg

Are dual monk-straps overdone? They seem to be getting there. A few seasons ago they were p. daring stuff, but now I wouldn't be shocked to see Cole Haan slinging a pair. John Lobb's got a nice, conservative take on the style. I hate the pebble-grain leather, but the whole design is lean and aggressive enough to still have some appeal.

Jimmy Choo, though? Jimmy knows what's up.

Well done, Jimmy.

And for the ladies, let's see what Mr. Christian Louboutin has on offer this spring.

Allen Edmonds is as conservative as getting a snowball from a rentboy in your Mount Vernon pied-à-terre, but they still manage to have some fun with their designs (in a way that doesn't make you look like you're going to anime prom). This is a variation on their Vernon, which is a good shoe you can dress up or down without any real effort. It's a good shoe. You should buy good shoes.

I think we shall get along on shoes. Or so say my Fluevog Radio CBCs (orange! last pair remaining in that color in the Seattle store), my Allen Edmonds Park Avenues (black, a sad mistake of my youth) and Mitchells (in honey, naturally), my Mpulse sneakers in purple, and my Antonio Maurizi cap toe oxfords (mustard brown, and a decent deal on gilt). I generally dislike pebble grain, I'm really hoping to find a decent monkstrap in my price range, and I've been considering the vernon variation for a while.

Also they absorb your skin's oil and sweat and get a really obvious outline of where your feet go after awhile. People think its either really cool or really gross but ehhhhh

The question is: are there shoes I can buy that will make my legs as long as Spike Spiegel's

There might not be shoes that can do it, but a doctor can (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/dec/15/gender.uk).

My Lineup! Nothing fancy, I like 'em casual. I also got all four pairs of sneakers at once on a binge when I was in America, because I can only buy shoes so often (my size doesn't exist in Japan, shoe shopping for me is like trying to buy a milk cow at a pet store). Front-right are Athletic Only, of course. And I have a pair of Fancy Shoes off in a cupboard somewhere.

And last week when I was in Singapore I was overwhelmed by their stocking of shoes in my size, so I picked up these bad boys:

Shut up, you ninnies! Talk about shoes!

By far the most difficult thing about getting a new pair of shoes is getting them set to that balance where you can slip them on and off without tying and untying them, but won't crush the sides down getting them on and off, and they're not too loose when you walk around, and the shoelaces won't come untied. It's a delicate balance to strike!

You have never lived in Japan. You wouldn't get it.

So I'll explain it!

There is a whole fucking lot of taking on and putting off of shoes in Japan. Every time I walk into or out of the school building. A decent number of restaurants. My house. It took me about three days in this country to realize that it's not shoe abuse, but NOT tying them is self abuse. And I don't mean the fun kind wink wink. That's a masturbation joke. But tying your shoes every time you put them on? That's no joke at all. That's serious.

In keeping with the above: I make liberal use of shoehorns and I do not care who knows it.

The story they told me about Ample Vigour, the one that I believe, is that once in a moment of weakness he got his nut with nothing on hand but a bottle of leather cleaner and a picture of Barker Black's Lavenum Boots (http://www.barkerblack.com/product/M1400).

And like that, he's gone.

Jesus. What happened to turn you into such a huge cock in your absence? Making fun of a guy for confessing he has a mental illness? Rein it in a little. I didn't make fun of you when you cried about your cancer scare. At least JDS has the excuse of always having been a nightmarish, empty shell of a human. And poor little Austin probably doesn't even know when he's a monster, on account of being simple. But me and you, we know better. We can be better. Be better with me.

Shoes: they keep your feet dry, mostly. This thread has so many weird layers

What mental illness is that where you can dish it out but can't take it again?

JDS

the day i made fun of the nerd genre fetish was the day i looked in the mirror and realized there was less and less looking back at me. i had bludgeoned all good and positive things in me beyond recognition by mocking the manifest appeal of rockets, gears, and giant pocketwatches and was now a stranger unto myself. i am one of the injured, dissolving like an injured dog. like wasted limbs get smaller. pain is the stimulus of pain. but then, of course, nothing is cured. a heart, if it no longer sounds the desire to accessorize like doc brown in BTTF 3 or the guy from wild wild west, is only the metronome of waste. his blacks crackle and drag.

I'm not even sure what you mean by this, but for some reason AV was calling me out for having mentioned in a thread that I was recently diagnosed with clinical depression, (right after having an embarrassing moment when I was entertaining thoughts of suicide, which is what made me seek medical help to begin with). I would have thought he was above something like that, but I guess not.

I understand that it's the fundamentals of mob mentality to kick someone when they're down and dogpile in a moment of perceived weakness, so in the end it's not surprising that this would be the eventual reaction to me having said anything that personal on the forum.

Shawn, everyone here wants you to get better. I've been depressed and suicidal too - had it planned out and everything - and I wouldn't wish that shit on anyone. I want you to feel better and live a happy life.

If jokes about steampunk are fucking you up then I won't make them and I'm sorry I hurt your feelings.

if I may be serious for a moment shawn I think most of us think youre a cool guy and you're reading way too much into the needling of your odd steampunk defensiveness and wrongly assuming a universal familiarity with your irl issues

edit: I mean I hate explaining jokes but you do realize the things I wrote above were respectively just knocks on obsessive steampunk culture and your own description of me and were not intended as devestating personal attacks because I'm thinking you could use that assurance

I think his point was that you have a habit of saying mean shit to people and then freaking out and acting persecuted when the same people you say mean shit to say mean shit back to you. If you want people to stop dogpiling on to you maybe you should stop presenting yourself as a jerk because the general opinion is when someone acts like a jerk they can also handle being shit talked to back.

I didn't read that as AV taking a stab at Shawn's depression at all. It was more a joke on the steampunk thing, which is becoming something of a running gag. Because again, when someone's forum behavior is built on put-downs and jabs and bein' a dick (well-intentioned or otherwise), it's expected that they'll take that in return.

Lots of people say really personal, revealing stuff on these forums and don't get dogpiled.

But seriously, over a thousand dollars for footwear is madness. Actually, a thousand dollars for any article of clothing is madness. MAYBE a full three-piece suit for a thousand dollars wouldn't be completely insane (just mostly), but it had better be a damned nice suit.

Guys, I saw a pair of raffia platform wedge sandals at the office today on a woman in her 50s and they were profoundly ugly and unprofessional.

Like this, but worse:

http://www.neimanmarcus.com/products/mx/NMX159F_mx.jpg

But they did answer the question "what if hooker shoes mated with a hanging plant holder from the 70s?" so I suppose there was a purpose to them being made after all.

People who think "beggars can't be choosers" by extension see the world as divided between prostitutes and pimps. This is more morally disgusting than seeing the world as divided between the haves and have-nots and throwing your lot with the haves like an elitist jerk. You turn a blind eye to cold-blooded pimpery and shrug your shoulders at the blackened eyes and swollen, blood-smeared cheeks of prostitutes. How dare you. You should be ashamed of yourself.
