So, per Pitchfork today, Sweet Valley (a Wavves side project) released an album "inspired by" video game music.

As you can tell from the Dynamite Headdy cover art, they aren't joking. It's pretty much just beats - these aren't remixes - but it's a lot of fun identifying samples and implied melodies. There's a WHOLE LOT of Zelda in there, and at times I heard Sonic, Mario, and a little bit of the Prelude from Final Fantasy. If nothing else I thought it might catch some ears around here.

I am a fan of Wavves. I don't know what to expect from that guy making beats, let alone video game inspired ones.

I will check this out.

I'm not a Wavves, so I was pleasantly surprised by this. Not the sort of thing I would listen to over and over, but I can appreciate the novelty of it.

Wow, this is really nice. It's like someone recorded my dreams or something.

This album is all over the place. Some of it is pretty good (I liked tracks 3, 12, and 13, for instance) and some of it is simply unpleasant to listen to. There's other albums that are similar to this but better, so I don't think I'll be buying it, but...uh, I guess it's neat that it exists or something?

It's free.

Their previous mixtape, Stay Calm, is better IMO. But this one is pretty neat too.

I take back what I said. I've been enjoying repeat listens. This album is pretty fun! The older mixtape (Stay Calm) is good too, but I'm partial to this one.
