Super Play was an independent UK SNES magazine that had a special focus on imported games and RPGs, more so than any other UK magazine of the time. It was special, and we're going to read it. More info here, because I don't feel like writing a potted histry. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Play)

Without further ado, issue 1.

"From the makers of TOTAL!" is a bit of a dire warning in retrospect, as that magazine was shit.

See!?

Anyway, Super Play Issue 1. Almost the first thing we see is this:

I've never heard of these animes!

Here's the contents - let me know if there's anything in particular you want to see. Let's start this lookback with a peruse of the "news" section!

There's an article about the upcoming "Super Mario Bros" movie! Which states the movie "could be a corker, but we'd be much happier if we knew who the director is". If only they knew. Still, at least we got this out of it:

See? Super Play fucking gets it. 47%, indeed...

A review of Super Mario Kart - let's see what the team make of it.

What on earth's going on with that screenshot!?

A rundown of the cast, which I have poorly stitched together.

Two seperate judgments, two similar scores. It's a hit!

More to come.

I've never heard of these animes!

Pfft, lightweight.
(Okay, Odin's pretty obscure, but the rest are classics.)

Anyway, fun mag. Love the conversational tone. As for suggestions, I dunno, maybe Out Of This World? Castlevania IV? Addams Family?

Great magazine! I have a couple of issues, printed about halfway through the life of the publication. I really ought to dig 'em out and post a couple of reviews here.

Okay, nobody's playing along. Maybe this will spur things along a bit:

That's seven issues, free for the digital downloading.

Man, I love the 80s anime fanart style covers on the first five volumes, for reasons of pure rose-tinted nostalgia.
