View Full Version : Your Mix Tape to the Apocalypse!

12-19-2012, 12:23 PM
Seeing as the world is ending this Friday (How could the Mayans be wrong?!) I figured I should put a mixtape together to accompany the complete destruction of Humanity and the Earth. This is what I came up with (http://www.falselogic.net/dimortuisunt/2012/12/19/mix-tape-to-the-apocalypse/).

For those of you who are too lazy to click links (though the link has links to all the music, I'm too lazy to do it again here):

Dies Irae – Mozart
Pop goes the World - Men without Hats
The Times They are a-Changin’ – Bob Dylan
Of the Psychic Wars – Blue Oyster Cult
Final Countdown – Europe
Space Oddity – David Bowie
It’s the End of the World as we Know it (and I Feel Fine) – REM
Come Sail Away – Styx
London Calling – The Clash
End of the World – Gary Moore
The End is the Beginning is the End – Smashing Pumpkins
Dies Irae – Verdi

What would your mixtape to the Apocalypse sound like?

Swans - Mother of the World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4mQxGXxU2M)

But it's cool because you get most of your best gear afterward. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-KKuOQXXG0)

Dies Irae – Verdi

The best thing about this is that it was composed to honor a novelist/poet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alessandro_Manzoni). The dude must have written books in the blood of demons that he killed with his bare hands.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor: East Hastings.

P.M. Dawn's "If You Never Say Goodbye" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qacAbMCA_tw)

Some good apocalyptic imagery there. If I were doing a soundtrack for a Cat's Cradle film adaptation, I'd make it the trailer music.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor: East Hastings.

I would've gone with Dead Flag Blues (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVekJTmtwqM)

"The car is on fire...and there's no driver at the wheel..."

Ween - It's Gonna Be A Long Night
I - Cursed We Are
Gwar - Ragnarok
Turbonegro - Train Of Flesh
Peaches - Fuck The Pain Away
Dayglo Abortions - Fuck The World

I guess it's just that the outro is the happiest goddamn thing i think Godspeed's ever done.
Lets just say the whole album :)

Come Sail Away – Styx

This is a really smart choice.

Anyway, I have to throw my hat in for The Song is Over (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFaFlJpB3Qg) by The Who.

So I felt like constructing a mixtape.

Strangely, we already had just the right thread for this.

What a Wonder World - Louis Armstrong (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2VCwBzGdPM) (surprised this one hasn't come up yet.)
We'll Meet Again - Vera Lynn (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHcunREYzNY) (another one that seems like should have been chosen right quick.)
Everything is Ending - The Bird and the Bee (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYfC9yncSes) (this would be great for a sex-pocalypse, a la David Cronenberg's Shivers)

Scorpions - The Zoo: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chlyvXcPuRI) An absolute must-have. You can't skip through an apocalyptic wasteland without minor-to-major choruses.

Slayer - Skeletons of Society: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeroe3obM64) As essential as spiked shoulder pads.

Bastille - Pompeii: ([URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F90Cw4l-8NY) For parties. With whom? How? I dunno. But there will be parties. To assume otherwise is severely underestimating human tenacity.

Flogging Molly - Punch Drunk Grinning Soul: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0TfmS0l-DM) For fights.

Erasure - Always: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSMeUPFjQHc) For roasting squirrel over a trash-fire under the stars and/or impenetrable black clouds of ash and snow.

Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHP6U5vQ3mU) In case of the happy circumstance you run across a working car and the gasoline to fuel it.

Judas Priest - You Got Another Thing Coming (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biXnwOMznkg) See above.

Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEbEMjKitA4) In the eventuality that I become a super-buff martial arts master who can make people's heads explode, this is the music I'd want for those situations.

Queen - Don't Stop Me Now: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgzGwKwLmgM) Because when the apocalypse throws down I'm gonna have myself a good time.

Dio - Holy Diver: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkysjcs5vFU) Because its fucking Holy Diver. Rainbow in the Dark is in the mixtape too.

Dio - Man on the Silver Mountain: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9nfVrusSMg) For sunsets.

A-ha - Take On Me: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djV11Xbc914) The obligatory "Remember what it was like before the apocalypse" sentimental attachment.

Daft Punk - Get Lucky: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBJ9RnbK8G4) For dance battles. And/or workout music.

The Doors - Touch Me: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UEVyIyibD8) At this point I'm just adding songs I like.
