View Full Version : Dance your ass off

I'm looking for tunes to dance to. I'll dance myself off to some Parliament and Funkadelic songs, as well as some more soulful stuff like a couple Bill Withers songs...but I'm open to other genres besides funk and soul. The first Jurassic 5 has some excellent tunes if you're in the mood for dancing to hip hop. But yeah...I'm picky.

This song has a smooth groove but the verses are a little harder. Only song I've found by him I really like, but check it out. General Elektriks - Raid the Radio (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzFt7Ej-uIc)

This right here is one of my favorite songs in the world right now. It doesn't pick up until the 3:08 mark, but once it does, I have to dance, I am compelled. LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoA0cTC228M). Again, only song by them I like, but this one is awesome.

Any other recommendations?

Just listen to "Billie Jean", you aren't going to do any better than that.

I don't understand your criteria for dancing.

What kind of dancing do you wish to do?

LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoA0cTC228M)
But more typically stuff like....this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgnElX2jCcw)
Or this! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBXU2t4hodo) (oh fuck yes)
Or this! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=8GsY-LFYye0#t=833s)
That's the kind of stuff that makes me want to get up and move and have fun. I guess I gotta go back to the funk station on Pandora to get some more ideas.
Like this! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI6w2vnEJXc) (for something more laid back)

Well, you said you were open to dancing to stuff beyond funk or soul, so what is it about those genres that you find more danceable than other dance-oriented genres?

I liked the Lack of Afro and Hiromasa Sato tunes well enough. Just...not what I'm looking for. But thanks.

This does the trick though. Quality ain't too good, unfortunately. But you get the idea. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgpDN-bARwc)

It is my critical perspective that musicians who are involved in the Atlanta hip hop scene are just absolutely the best at it

I am in a place where I intend to get Big Boi's newest album, but I already have Sir Lusious Left Foot and MAN it is great, and you know what else is cool? Andre 3000's mixtape. Also: Janele Monae's discography (and imo at the dead end you have cee lo green and if that is your dead end you have the best scene)

Liked a fair amount of these links. The Sly and the Family Stone, not quite upbeat enough, but still, I like where this is going.

The two Outkast tunes, pretty cool. Again not *quite* there, yet....still pretty good. Maybe I just need to adjust to the style.

Thanks folks. I'll try out any recommendations.

That's not even one of their best songs! And then everyone links you to dance music and you're like no I want funk!

Girl, you so crazy. You straight crazy.

But I also really really really love this song and video. Thrift Shop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK8mJJJvaes)!!!!

I found about this meme via a hockey website. They made a post showcasing all the hockey-related variants of this "popular" meme. Meanwhile, I never even knew it existed until then. Either way, it's dumb and that song is awful.

No, it totally isn't. You're dead to me. And soon? *chk-chk* To everyone else, too. *cigar smoke goes here*
