No matter how you feel about politics or what you think about YouTube, you can't help but think this will be interesting:

"Youtube Pass Debates to a New Generation" courtesy The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/14/us/politics/14youtube.html?_r=1&oref=slogin)

This sounds like a great idea to me. It'll make the debate more engaging and relevant, and CNN will, of course, use only best submissions, making it less of a Sturgeon's Law crapshoot than the rest of YouTube.

“the campaigns are so risk-averse, they would be reluctant to engage in a YouTube debate if it weren’t perceived over all as a positive experience.”

It is definitely a cool idea, but I wonder how creative and pointed the submissions that get aired will be. There is still the (admittedly necessary) filter of Anderson Cooper and CNN between the candidates and teh intarwebz. I'm worried that without a a less corporate moderator, we won't see anything that catches the candidates off gaurd or changes the race.
