Comedy agency Yoshimoto Kogyo are attempting to revive the popularity of wacky comedian Razor Ramone Hard Gay by creating a new comic starring HG. Woman-hating Hard Gay will team up with a nice-bodied female named Seiko Honda and investigate the case of serial rapes occurring at a female dormitory. Huh?

Those wacky Japanese love the HG

I wonder how many people are going to get the wrong idea from the title of this thread.

And then come in here and find out that the truth is even crazier.

Good question. I made the (probably false) assumption most people here know who Hard Gay is.

That set up so many jokes, I just gave up.

I find the addition of the female that dresses like Hard Gay hilarious. I can imagine the thought process that went through the heads of the editors. "Hard Gay's really popular now, but will that be enough to sell this book to our target demographic. What if they're just not into that kind of thing? I know, throw in this leather clad female sidekick. That'll at least guarantee we sell a million copies!"

I keep thinking this thread is called Hard Gay Marriage.

Well he is married (http://tvinjapan.com/blog/2006/08/15/hard-gay-gets-married-an-awesome-samurai-hg-commercial/), so I suppose that thread title works as well.

I remember this gay friend I used to have who loved a hentai called Kizuna. I thought it was shit. It was like a mexican soap opera with gay porn. Awful.

I will be the first in line (relatively speaking, of course) for Hard Gay manga.

(Go ahead, try to make fun of THAT sentence. I dare you.)

Hard Gay should be in movies. Big action films. "Wesley Snipes. With Hard Gay."

Off topic, but there are lot of comical representations of they gays that come from Japan. What if you are a gay and a Japanese? How tolerant is Japan of Gays that aren't television parodies? I know it's cool to watch cartoons featuring a tentacled monster fucking a girl who appears to be preteen, or some dude raping an infant and then putting it in the blender, but we all know the real horror is consensual sex between two adults of the same gender. Does Japan agree?

I'm a gay dude, and my Japanese friends know. It didn't cause any major problems. There is definitely a good deal of homophobia, but it tends to be rooted in total ignorance of the existence of actual gay people who are not parodies, rather than American homophobia, which is about how I am going directly to hell because I'm immoral blahblah. So, in general I found Japanese homophobia to be less fueled by moral outrage and more about how goofy it is for two dudes to do it. Caveat: Most of my friends lived in and around the Tokyo area. It may be different in the country.

In general, Japanese people don't have moral objections to gay sex the way a hilarious amount of Americans do. However, there is intense social pressure to marry someone for the good of your family. So, there are a lot of gay people in Japan who are married and live seemingly normal salary man lives but who go crazy and sleep around with tons of random dudes all the time when they can get away to do it. So, from that point of view, it's not that there is anything intrinsically bad about being gay, it's that there is something intrinstically bad with not getting married.

So, basically, there is homophobia in Japan, but its has pretty fundamentally different origins than American homophobia, which also means it manifests itself pretty differently as well.

(. . . I'm obviously the one here who's going to answer this, right? I think about 75% of my posts are probably either (1) talking about queer stuff or (2) talking about what Japan is like/what the moon runes say.)

Hard Gay as SVU is enough to get me interested again.
