This is awesome! The Community Games channel is just a day old and there's already twenty titles available on it. These range from the possible XNA killer app Weapon of Choice to the experimental audio game In the Pit, where you munch anyone unfortunate enough to have dropped into your tomb of doom. Then there's the totally retro and completely affordable Galax-Email (at 200 Microsoft points), and Colosseum, and Alien Ambush... man, I feel like a kid in a candy store! This has the potential to be the greatest thing that Microsoft has ever done with the Xbox 360.

Anyway, post your thoughts about any Community Games you've played here. Except maybe Weapon of Choice, which already has its own thread.

True story: I played In The Pit on PC when it was a simple app that required a pair of headphones and a wired 360 pad to play. It was difficult.

After researching this In the Pit game, I have decided that that is one badass sounding game

Hey hey, if you guys are still interested in omnidirectional shooters like Geometry Wars, give Biology Battle a try. You might pass it up because of the boring name, but trust me, this game is anything but! It's essentially Geometry Wars with bosses and a buttload of power-ups, in a microorganic setting. Instead of weird shapes, you're blasting blood cells and tumors. I'm impressed with it, and I may just make it my next XNA purchase. Here's a clip of the game in action... my apologies that it isn't available in a high quality format.

US, Canada, UK, France, Italy, and Spain right now, with more coming next year (from here (http://creators.xna.com/en-US/faq#anchor_1_58)).

I played this one crazy game where you play as a weird looking dog and do backflips to collect falling musical instruments that make incredibly shitty sounding music. In between each level, an Engrishy message pops-up asking you to donate to schools in Venezuela.

For a second, I thought I was having an acid flashback.

Then I remember I've never done acid before, and this game is just weird as fuck.

Oh yeah, Dokee and the Magical Instruments. It's not a whole lot of fun, but hey, it's educational, so I guess fun is beside the point.

Community Games sales figures released (http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2009/03/gamerbytes_analysis_xna_commun.php#more)

Yeah, those figures don't look that great.

It would help if more of these games were actually worth playing.

It's good to hear that Johnny Platform made decent amounts of money; same with ZP2K9.

*Decent in regards to how much they cost

I totally agree. I've only bought 2 (Johnny Platform's Biscuit Romp and ZP2K9) but it kinda sucks that even the decent ones are only selling around 3,500 copies. I thought with a user base as large as Xbox Live that those would perform better. I'm sure a part of the problem is that they aren't really marketed much and microsoft does little to nothing to promote them. I dunno, I don't see why microsoft would have ads on the front of the dashboard about playing with gamerchix but no space to promote worthwhile community games.

*SIGH*

Right now my Community Games library consists of Weapon of Choice, Johnny Platform's Biscuit Romp, and Carneyville. I honestly don't know if I would buy any others. They're all so amazingly terrible that they make the selection of games on Wii Ware look like solid gold by comparison. This is why quality control is important, folks... without it, it only took two weeks for Community Games to become the official Xbox Live Kusoge Channel.

Balrog

Quality control isn't the answer. If I was in charge of quality control, Weapon of Choice wouldn't have ever been released.

ArugulaZ

I don't have any major beefs with Weapon of Choice. It's flawed, but quirky in an ambitious, well-intentioned kind of way. Many other Community Games are bad just because they're bad... saddled with poor design elements and low to the floor production values. There was some over encumbered Missile Command rip-off on Community Games that just made me want to pull my hair out... not only was it ugly, but it was far more complicated and confusing than any Missile Command clone ought to be. THOSE are the kinds of games that quality control would weed out.

...those numbers are a little higher than I was expecting. Really, there just needs to be more promotion, from Microsoft and the creators.

I agree :I

Why doesn't Microsoft have something that suggests 360, XBLA and Community Games based on your play history? Everything has that kind of thing now.

Miner Dig Deep is a fun little game for 200 points.

I would buy some of these if I could play them while disconnected from the internet.

But for the moment, I have a paid copy of In the Pit but almost never have a chance to play it.

Considering the whole point of XBCG is that it's easier to get an audience there than it is just putting your game up on the Internet, having the best sales figures be in the thousands does not really convince me it's been worthwhile.

Yeah, I think Apple's got Microsoft beat on independent software distribution. Even dumb apps like iFart are making huge bank, while the best programs on Xbox Community Games haven't even earned the money it cost to develop them. This was an interesting experiment, but I think this will go down in gaming history as a failure due largely to Microsoft's indifference. They should give it another six months, and if things don't change they should scrap the whole thing and fold the best games into Xbox Live Arcade.

It's as much Dig Dug as it is Rogue, which is to say... well, you should just play it. It's neat.

I didn't care for Weapon of Choice but this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndYJTx0Eaks) has piqued my interest. Blaster Master meets Bionic Commando? Don't mind if I do.

I bought unRevolutionary (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550232/) over lunch and it's pretty good. It's like Geometry Wars with some RPG elements to it (upgrade stats and unlock/upgrade weapons).

Kodu (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8025855024c/) is worth checking out. It's a game where you can make games using a really simple interface.

Green Island (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802585502e9) is a neat little Japanese puzzle platformer game. It kinda reminds me of Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands. It's not perfect but it's pretty fun for 80 points.

Also, Miner Dig Deep, guys.

Kaiten Patissier (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/00000001-0000-4000-8000-000058550324?partner=RSS) is a new puzzle/platformer game by the guy who made Green Island. It's definitely worth checking out.

Also, I played the playtest version of Grapple Buggy(the Metroidvania game that blends Blaster Master and Bionic Commando) this week. The gameplay is pretty fun but the story and voice acting he's putting in there are atrocious. I left him some feedback about it but whether he'll act on it is another thing :\
