Your very own Pokémon legend is about to unfold: Let's All Play Pokémon together!
Let's All Play Pokémon White isn't the only game we'll be showcasing, however. Thanks to the dedicated LP squad that have thrown their hat into the ring, we'll be playing through a bunch of the other Pokémon games as well! Any game in the main series is open to playing, from the early beginnings back in Red and Blue up to the last generation's offerings with Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, as well as anything in-between. There are only two rules to keep in mind: 1. Updates should be short and sweet. There's no strict posting limit, but for the sake of brevity try to keep it under 5 posts or so. 2. No more than one or two LPs per person at a time. The last thing we want is to burn out on the games, after all. Other than that, the sky's the limit - anything from glitch runs to ROMhacks to Nuzlock challenges and beyond are permitted. The goal here is to try and match the lead thread gym-for-gym (i.e. everyone plays up to the first gym until I clear Striaton, then up to the second until I clear Nacrene, and so on), similarly to how the FFV LAP paced itself. Playing out of order is perfectly fine however! So far, we've got the following Let's Plays lined up for you guys: EDIT: Welcome to the world of Pokémon, courtesy of Refa Aerdan (Pkmn Emerald - Team Pisces) (No updates yet) ais523 (Pkmn Red/Blue - Glitched run) Part 1: Pallet to Pewter Part 2: Pewter to Cerulean BlitzBlast (Pkmn Gold/Silver - Pokémon Special: Team Gold & Silver) Part 1: Despair & Toasty Part 2: ??? Oh, hey, this looks interesting. I wonder what Pokemon games are being pla- *spits out drink*
What the fuck? 2nd Gen isn't getting any representation? I ought to do something about this! *three minutes later* EDIT: I haven't decided on a challenge, so I'll leave it to you guys. Just don't expect me to do Nuzlocke. EDIT 2: Never mind! I'm going to just be following the Pokemon Special teams. |

Is there a chance I could do Gold Crystal? I was thinking of doing a "Mono-Type" run where I rely on using one type of Pokemon for the whole game based on the Tyrants decisions... Although, I really do hope no one suggests Ghosts or Steel types, we want SOME variety right?
Would this be cool? And to clarify, it's only 1-2 people playing at any one time though, right? But we're progressing through gyms at the same time? I'm a little confused. |

Well, if Blitz is going to do both G/S, then I can concentrate on just SS!
Which I should work on now that I've got the means to do so. Sally forth! |

Sorry, I worded that a little weirdly. What I mean is each person is only allowed to do up to two separate playthroughs at a time. It's just so everyone can keep on task and focus on the game they've started playing. |

I'd like to jump in! I suppose I'll take Pokemon Sapphire.
Hmm... If we want to use a gimmick, do we have to declare it right away? I have a few ideas in mind, but I don't know for sure which I'll do, if I want to do anything. |

As a question to the people playing 1st gen, would you mind sending me a copy of your save files? I'm pretty sure I know how to use VBA Link, and I've never actually used the Time Capsule. Oh, and PapillionReel, my gimmick is that I'm going to follow the Pokemon Special teams.

Would Pokemon Puzzle Challenge count as too different of a game? It's technically 2nd gen after all...
EDIT: Wait, no, I forgot that I'm absolutely terrible at Pokemon Puzzles Challenge/League. |

I am so in on this. The Pokemon games are light enough (and with all these other LPs flying around, there's less pressure to show off every little thing), so I think I could handle one in tandem with Majora's Mask (which is still happening, despite the lack of activity; expect an update next Wednesday or Thursday as I've got a nice little off period with nothing on tap, something which has been vanishingly rare as of late). The only question is what to play -- I've been kind of wanting to LP the Gen 1 remakes for a while, but two people are already doing them. Hrm.

I'll start posting mine once Pappy actually starts his game.
I do have a gimmick someone can take if they can't think of anything, though. When you start the game, use random.org to get a random number from 1 to 386 (Or however many Pokemon there are in the version you're playing.). Whatever has that National Dex number will be your starter. Gameshark in some Masterballs and use an "Encounter any Pokemon" code to catch it, then just box whatever you got from Oak. After you beat a gym, roll up another number and catch it. You can only use Pokemon you get from random numbering during the run, with the exception of HM slaves. I started doing one of these, but the game started freaking the hell out when I tried to get a Sharpedo, and it never recovered. I probably did something horribly wrong with the codes. |

If I thought I'd have the time to do more than one run, I'd do an Eevee team. They're so damn cute!
I'll post my first once I've reread it a few dozen more times... |

I was actually thinking of doing something similar to this for my run, but just shark the teams in directly. I'd make a file with a number assigned to each family, barring legendaries. I'd roll six times, and take from each family rolled whatever evolution is relevant to the level. (So if I rolled the Squirtle line, but was level 35, I'd use Wartortle, and of course if he'd level up, he'd evolve through the playthrough.) Level would be kept by whatever the average of the last team was. If I needed an HM but didn't roll any compatible Pokemon, I'd roll 1-6, and replace whatever slot rolled with the next random Pokemon I roll that is compatible.
As I figure, the main challenges in this would be the lack of EVs, which isn't a problem early but will leave a huge disadvantage by E4. I'm not sure how IVs work on sharked Pokemon, either... I think sharking in 99 of every TM in possession would be fair to deal with bad movesets. Still, this all seems pretty involved, which is part of why I don't know if I want to do it! I just like playing Pokemon, and some challenge runs just sap the fun for me. (I've also considered a "literal blind run." I can probably do that, though that would probably be more entertaining to others in video form.) |

EDIT: Oh, and I think I know what I'll do about synchronizing my run. I'll go city-by-city, at least to start with; that is, I won't go beyond Pewter until other people do, and likewise Cerulean. Past that, who knows? |

I would love to get in on some First Gen let's play action, but I don't know for sure what gimmick I'd do. Maybe a Mono-Poison run in Red?

Be warned that changing your starter to Mew (as in, setting startermon_1, 2, or 3 = mew) in G1 causes the game to throw an error message at the end of every sentence displayed.

...That's kind of strange though. One of these days I'm going to go play G1 until I have the kind of understanding that I could actually talk in depth about its code at the drop of a hat. |

Especially if someone knows how to get the multiplayer to work online, a few Pokemon Puzzle League videos would be cool. I've never played any of the Mystery Dungeon ones so I don't know how they might work.

My corner of this Let's All Play is Pokemon Yellow, the G1 game based on the anime, following the journey of Ash Ketchum as closely as possible. I get to capture and use only the Pokemon Ash captures and uses. I'll even use his tactics whenever possible. I wanna be the very best Like no one ever was To catch them is my real test To train them is my cause I will travel across the land Searching far and wide Each pokemon to understand The power that’s inside Be sure to sing along with the video as loudly as you can. You know you want to. Every ten-year-old in town is getting a Pokemon and sent on their way this morning. Ash overslept and Professor Oak miscounted kids, so Gary here grabs the last Pokeball. Luckily Professor Oak captured a random Pokemon this morning, though it hasn't received standard starter Pokemon pre-training. This Pikachu does not appreciate being pawned off on a random know-nothing kid. Speaking of which, let's learn a little something about the little guy. "Pikachu" means something along the lines of "Sparkle Mouse." I never thought about pulling on a Pikachu's tail before but now... I'll try to resist. I don't need Pikachu any more pissed at me. I don't know if/when Ash and Gary battle in the anime, but the game has the standard rival battle now. Normally the player's rival picks the starter Pokemon that is weak against the player's starter. But here we have little Mr. Reject Rat, so... Gary doesn't have one of the normal starters either! Eevee isn't weak against electricity and it's a very close match. Inflicting paralysis gives Pikachu just enough of an edge to win the battle. In theory there are three other kids from Pallet Town with the normal starters out there, but I don't think we'll ever see them. Hey, maybe they're writing their own Let's Plays here! In both game and anime, Pikachu refuses to go inside a Pokeball. It can be put in storage but that makes it hate Ash even more. Not going to come up in this play, since Ash never retires Pikachu from the team. Status screen! Ash has a little starter money and small profiles of the gym leaders he'll be seeking out. The third is an angry old woman, the fifth is Goku, the seventh seems to be an alien, and the eighth is a mystery. The others look fairly normal, I guess. All Pokemon are microchipped upon capture - it's incorporated into Pokeball technology - and one piece of data that cannot be altered is the trainer ID number. But didn't Professor Oak capture Pikachu? you ask. Pokemon Professors are licensed to use non-imprinting Pokeballs for Pokemon distributed to first-time trainers. It wouldn't do much good to have hundreds of seemingly identical Charmanders in the system, after all. Bonus: Professor Oak tosses in a free Pokedex. He claims it's for cataloging any new Pokemon we discover but that wouldn't explain why it's totally blank from the start. I guess filling it in is homework and it otherwise logs data about Pokemon in the wild, population density, migration, and the like. A short ways outside town, Ash encounters his first wild Pokemon. Pikachu isn't taking orders so Ash goes against regulation and tries to battle it himself. Using what appears to be his pajamas. It doesn't go well. While Ash is distracted, a Rattata makes off with some of his stuff! I better still have my 3175 Pokebucks! And where the heck did Pikachu go? Hiding up in a tree! Probably trying to escape Ash, actually. A wild Spearow goes after Ash at first but quickly switches targets to Pikachu. It's the natural order of things - Pokemon fight Pokemon. And electric Pokemon fry flying Pokemon! That hurt a bit but Thundershock was super effective and this could be a great way to rake in experience points! Or not! Run away!!! |

... Though should we even open it up to side games? Colosseum and XD should be fine since they have a story mode similar to the handheld games, but for the others I'm just worried we might be getting too far off track here. :\ |

I am probably one of the two people in the world who thinks Ash is a good character and an excellent trainer.
