Default Vot, Vot, Vot?! Let's Play Dragon Quest Heroes - Rocket Slime!

Oh boy, this game. Made in December of 2005 and translated in September of the following year, Rocket Slime is the second of three games, the only one to see an English release to date. (Which I guess makes it the Earthbound of its series...) It was also the first DS game I ever played, something cute I grabbed to make sure the emulator I'd grabbed was going to work right. And I'm so very glad that I chose this to be that first game.

I think that to say much about the gameplay here would really spoil the surprise, so let me just say this: Rocket Slime is a cute, fun and simple little game that has plenty of potential for entertainment... Especially if you love a good old-fashioned collect-a-thon. It's rated E for 'Cartoon Violence, Comic Mischief and Use of Tobacco'.

Oh, and I should probably mention that this is a spin-off of the popular Dragon Quest series. So expect plenty of puns and more than a few references, especially to DQVIII!

Before we can begin our adventure, we need a name for our hero. The default is of course Rocket, and while I'm tempted to just keep it that way... Tyrants love a good vote, don't they? So let me hear your suggestions!

...Yes, slimes will form each letter as the cursor moves over them. And though it's a little late: Happy Goo Year, everyone.

Oh, and just to be clear: You have up to eight letters to work with here.

1EXP 1GP

Or, I guess, "Iexp Igp" if there's no arabic numerals in there.

No need for the P on the end; Dragon Quest always used Gold as its standard currency, even when it was Dragon Warrior. 1exp 1G would be more accurate to the series motif. And very accurate to the unfortunate Slime's eternal fate in the main-series DQ 'verse!

...When tyrants vote for silly things like this or 'Pants', it's a little disappointing. (I like Torzelbaum and JFink's suggestions though.)

And no, there is no 1. Only these characters.

I was left without recourse.

Also, every time this phrase comes to mind, I see in my head a picture of Terry O'Quinn as John Locke saying, "Sun, I am disappoint" and I crack up.

Okay, vote's not closing yet... But let's see how things are doing.

Loto, Gozer, Miles, Gunge, Rocket: 1 each.
1EXP 1 GP: 3
Goodrick: 4

Looking good so far!

Hmm, that's twenty-fours hours... But we have a tie. Professional judgment time, aka. using my own vote.

Our hero will be Goodrick, for thematic reasons. Not to mention being less stupid.

Okay, I'll admit I deserve that. I seem to have been in a bit of a foul mood today. My apologies, everybody.

I did actually like the idea behind the name '1EXP 1GP', but I'd like to stick with a name that's... Well, a little more natural in dialogue. Hopefully that explains things a bit better.

And that you can forgive me for being a jerk.

I like the back-and-forth but I vote for 1EXP 1GP.
