Today is National Potato Chip Day. In honor of that I wanted to ask all of you the following question about chips.

Is a (small) bag of chips OK as a side for the following dishes? Do you ever have chips as a side for them?
  • Burger
  • Slice of Pizza

Even as a child, I found the idea of potato chips as a side dish to be odd, and that has never ceased to be the case.

For a burger: Sure, in a pinch. They’re not as good as fries, but they’ll do. I’ve even had a couple of burgers with a layer of potato chips in them, and that can work well, too.

For pizza: What? Do people eat side dishes with pizza?

I have it with side salads (a local pizza place makes fantastic salads) but agreed, never thought to have chips. Interesting!

I don't generally like potato chips but have been surprised at things like Sunchips or Veggie Straws. Still not something I have a lot as it's a bit too salty for my taste but I really enjoy how much variety there is now.

They're usually not a side to anything for me but a between meal or road trip snack if I'm feeling low salt issues. Whenever a bag/box lunch for a webinar or meeting has chips they go in my bag/desk/pantry for later.

Big slice of pizza and a side salad is my ideal lunch.

Chips are fine with a cold sandwich. Burgers require fries, thems the rules.

I'm with jp, chips go with sub sandwiches and the like. I wouldn't necessarily reject them if somebody offered chips with pizza or a burger, in fact it's not unusual for chips to be present at tabletop game nights along with an ordered-in pie, but it's unusual and thus feels slightly odd!

EDIT: Now that I think about it further, at some bistro type restaurants I've had thick-cut potato chips with the burger, and that was good! Maybe it's just pizza I wouldn't normally go that route with.

Yes to both.

As others have said, not the ideal side for them, but sometimes you just work with what you've got.
