Default this is a thread about big trouble in little china.

idk i don't really have a lot to say but i think the movie is really good and wholesome and i think jack burton is in some ways a great anti-toxic masculinity hero but in some ways succumbs to the normal tropes of toxic masculinity i just wanted to make the thread before someone else did but if anyone did have anything to say about it i think that would be rad because it's a great little movie in my humble imo

also it's really fucking funny to me when he shoots the ceiling and it caves in on him

Big Trouble in Little China is great because Jack has absolutely nothing to do with the film he's in. He's just some guy who accidentally wandered in to the middle of an fantasy movie and had to go along with it.

Also, great sound track.

Did you know that this was just... John Carpenter's band? That he already had? And they did a music video?

And to think: all this time I've been running into non-mystic nights like a sucker.

i thought it was weird how the movie is eventually like, any woman with green eyes will work, because i thought the terms were that it had to be a chinese woman with green eyes and that's why the bad guys were going through this whole ordeal

I get it! The knife is his penis! He can't split a bottle (vessel) with his knife. He carries his knife in his mouth to avoid losing it while traversing the water, which symbolizes all things feminine. It's a film of subversive symbolism only masquerading as campy genre pastiche, notice when...

Its a shame the movie wasn't a bigger hit. Kurt Russel went onto big things but some other actors didn't do so well afterwards. The three storm gods are barely talking to each other. The Borneo Wildman now stars almost exclusively in direct-to-video Christian films. The Beyonder is doing OK as an entertainment lawyer in Brentwood. And he still comes to conventions now and then.

Sadly, the Porkchop Express recently passed away, destitute, survived by his wife, Mrs. The Porkchop Express.

It's a shame to see ghosts not talking to each other.

Jeez, it was just a movie. They didn't really die. But their careers did. Also, that one guy inflating wasn't a special effect. He just put on a lot of weight for the role, all at once, in a very short amount of time.

It's a shame to see what Hollywood forces people to do to their bodies.

I don't think anyone but Kurt Russell could have played Jack Burton. He adopts a sort of John Wayne (fuck, I hate to use that reference) persona and never lets the character realize he's the side kick and not the hero. Nothing can stop him swaggering through the movie like the manliest man who ever manned, but he accomplishes almost nothing through most of the movie He thinks he's Han Solo, but he's actually some weird mix of Chewie and the droids.

I just recently realized that the actor who plays the main villain, Lo Pan, is also the guy who provides the voice in Kung Fu Panda for Jack Black's adoptive dad i.e., Mr. Ping i.e., the goose who runs the restaurant.

I feel like this opens up all sorts of possibilities about how Mr. Ping could secretly be the villain in Kung Fu Panda 4. David Lo Pan has been biding his time incognito, waiting for the girl with green eyes to come through his restaurant. And only Kurt Russell, a gritty old hound dog, can stand up to his plans for world domination. (Which of course means that Kurt Russell's hound dog would frantically race around achieving nothing while another character is actually achieving something.)

Lo Pan also famously used his arcane magics to prevent Jerry Seinfeld and company from getting a table at his restaurant.

Seriously, James Hong is the REAL hardest working man in showbiz. Look at his IMDB page.

Haha, I think it all worked out for the best in the long run. I enjoyed this movie a lot for what it is, but uh - last thing history probably needed was a whole franchise springing up around a movie this problematic.

I have nothing of value to add here. Just wanted to say that "Chewie and the Droids" sounds like the name of a Star Wars tribute band, and I love it.

I picked up a free copy of the first issue. It's just OK but the premise is probably: taking place immediately after the first movie, Jack discovers the Borneo Wild Man on his truck. The two then become pals and I think the first issue ends with Jack realizing BWM is planning to marry Jack? It's been a while.
