Default Avengers Assemble! Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

This looks alright. You ever play those Ultimate Alliance games? Guess what, they're making another one of those. Get hype!

As a total Marvel stan I will of course be there day one, particularly as MCU influences seem strong here. Just hoping my boy Moon Knight makes the cut this time. (Unlikely.)

It's weird to me that Raven started this whole thing with X-Men Legends, did the first three (X-Men Legends, X-Men Legends 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance), then Vicarious Visions, who did some of the ports of MUA, was handed MUA2 and now... Team Ninja?

But I'm here for it. Especially if buddies also get it.

The MCU focus kills my interest in this, but then Ms. Marvel, Storm and Spider-Gwen are there and I don't know what to think. They've still got the bad Wolverine front and center, though.

The focus on the Black Order as villains makes sense, as those guys pretty much only exist to be Video Game Stage Bosses.

The kind that come back later as regular enemies.

He was in one of the previous games, wasn't he? I distinctly recall him being playable at some point.

Anyway, I love the hell out of these dumb games and am super excited for this one. I've played through every previous X-Men Legends/MUA game with friends, and they're perfect couch co-op junk food. Looking forward to taking a team of super-heroes and busting the shit out of everything that isn't nailed down looking for secrets while Johnny explains all of the deep cuts!

I just hope they give me back Cap with controllable shield. They introduced that in MUA1, and it was the most fun I've ever had in a video game, just steering that dumb shield around to knock down enemies over and over. (IIRC, MUA2 fucked around with tilt control and made it much less fun to control.)

Also: Lockjaw! (I am crushed that he's apparently not playable, especially given that everyone else in that ensemble cast shot is.)

I could swore when this was first announced I saw Jessica Jones and the other modern day Defenders In the lineup, but now I'm just seeing Daredevil.

Anyway, I haven't touched the series before, but I'll keep an eye on this, especially with Ms Marvel in it.

Squirrel Girl when, though?

Yeah, he was playable in MUA1 but not 2. That he featured in a game at all seemed like such a bizarre alignment of the stars that I don't see it happening again. Oh well. I'll always have the memories.

The first two games seem to have been delisted from digital stores which is kind of a bummer.

Yeah! Moon Knight was my favorite in the original. Dem 'chuks - they were total boss killers!

Hoping for a few more C and D listers, and I'm glad Game Informer confirmed costumes. My daughter is on board for Kamala and Gwen, but she suuure would like Doreen.

Wait... maybe I just want it to be so, but Wolverine sounded like Cal Dodd. Is it Cal Dodd? That would be fantastic.

It's Steven Blum, no doubt about it. Guy's been Wolverine's regular VA for years.

So to get Moon Knight in this game, we'll just have to get a Moon Knight movie in the MCU?

Let's do it.

They really could use another guy with a cape besides Thor.

Hurm, not sure about the 2/3rds overhead perspective. Weren't all the earlier games top down?

I like these as co-op games and navigating 3D spaces is not necessarily something everyone I'd like to play video games with is good at.

To be honest I think all the gameplay footage for this looks really bad.

Maybe it feels better than it looks? I'm interested to hear impressions.

Yeah, I was excited until I saw the video of the gameplay.

Diablo light was a really good fit for casual co-op and this looks like something much worse.

I think thatís just how these all look. I was really into the idea of X-Men Legends when I was like 16. An X-Men RPG? But Iíve always been put off by the way these look, thought Iíve never played any. Donít think the earlier games were top down, either. Also, now I am 30 and sickened by ever-increasing numbers, such as can be found in RPGs. 😤

Yeah, I'm guessing it's a combination of both a low budget and Team Ninja wanting to keep the look faithful to the previous games. Welcome splash of color aside, of course.

Actually, you guys, I don't know what you know about Marvel Ultimate Alliance, (I'm an expert)...no, but seriously, I believe the top-down view is still in. Nintendo's been touting this "hero mode" with a more dynamic camera, and I believe that's what we've been seeing this whole time.
