Default PS4 can be bricked with messages currently

https://www.vg247.com/2018/10/13/ps4...king-consoles/

Just as a heads up for anyone that does a lot of multiplayer. It's not as bad as it could be with people spam messaging this to any account they know of, but it's still really really bad.

Can spammers still add you to Groups without your consent, and then send messages to said group?

Note: It isn't a brick, it's a corruption of the database. If you reset the system it'll go through recovery.

Think so, yeah. But setting messages to Friends Only/Private also stops that.

Friends Only is good enough to stop it, right?

Nadia got some odd message the other day, first in a while. So far, so good, though.

If you trust your friends not to try and corrupt your system, sure.

Turns out I did that a long time ago, in an effort to curb the "free PSN points now, ask us how!" spam I was getting on my account. (Was that a problem for anyone else? It was sure a problem for me...) You better believe I double-checked after this news came to light, though.

If they did, they're certainly not my friends.

I mean, that just makes sense. Who wouldn't want to be in a group with Octo?

I got an anonymous message saying love me as I love you a few months ago. Im surprised I havent been turned into furniture yet.

I hope Sony gets this fixed soon. Im too nervous to turn on my PS4 to change the settings since just receiving the bad messages can mess things up.

They apparently did fix it at some point, but they're mostly trying to pretend it never happened and don't seem very concerned with the people who may not know how to recover their settings and whatnot. It's not in the firmware yet as far as I can tell, but whenever they next do a console update, it should be included in that.

You'd think they'd at least make a blog post announcing an incoming patch but nope.
