Default Good episodes to introduce people to shows

I want to introduce a friend to Frasier, but I don't know the show well enough to know which single episode represents the show the best. The internet tells me "Ham Radio" is a good one, as is supposedly the pilot. These are both fun, but I'm curious if anyone has other suggestions.

Feel free to use this thread for other shows. I will probably in the future.

Also, in case anyone is curious, the episode with the Soup Nazi in Seinfeld worked pretty well.

Every episode of Frasier is exactly the same, in a good way.

I don't know if it's too late in the run but I always loved the season 11 episode "High Holidays." I'm sure there are better episodes but that's just off the top of my head.

Yeah, Frasier is good comfort food. But why not start with The Show Where Sam Shows Up? If they're already familiar with Cheers, it's a good way to ease them into the spin-off. It even patches up some of the continuity errors from the first show!

"Oh, and here's my father."
"You told me he was dead."
(icy stare from Martin)
"Uhh..."

He only knows Cheers because I told him that it exists. That show was never popular here, I think only the first four seasons even got a German dub. I have never seen it on TV, and I watched a lot in the 90s.

It's similar with Frasier. That one at least was completely dubbed. But I still only saw it on Comedy Central, and I'm not sure if it was ever shown before midnight.

My point is, as fun as that episode is, it's probably not the ideal one.

The pilot episode where Nigel meets Daphne, followed by the episode where they almost sleep together because it was hot and he only owned one fan, followed by the one where they get married. Express confusion when your friend mentions any other character.

Bad Dog, the one where Bulldog takes credit for stopping a robbery and Frazier tries to expose the lie.

I'm not sure if Charlie Work is a good introduction to Always Sunny, I just know it's fucking amazing.

I'm interested in other people's choices because I never watched Frasier until very recently and I only watched a handful of early episodes and now I can't even remember them, so. Yeah.

I've always been shocked at just how efficient a job "Viva Los Muertos" does at summing up The Venture Brothers mythology, characters, their core relationships, while at the same time serving as a perfect example of their ethos and their comic timing at its absolute sharpest and darkest.

All while being completely fucking bonkers from frame one to the end.

"HOT DOLPHIN!!!"

Hm. If they're not familiar with Cheers, I guess that'd just make them doubly confused.

Anyway. The pilot is the logical place to start. Personally though, I like the episode where Frasier and Niles attempt to repair their toilet, then call in two plumbers who also happened to be their tormentors from high school. You get a feel for the characters' personalities pretty quickly from that one, and there's some good slapstick too. (Also, John C. McGinley plays one of the ex-bullies, making it extra fun if you're familiar with his work on other sitcoms.)

I've always wondered how many people innocently turned the channel to PBS and saw this, not realizing what they were in for:

What? No, I've seen the whole Cheers run on German television, the show has been completely dubbed. It may have been aired after midnight on RTL, but I've seen every episode. The great finale, and every Bar Wars episode :-)

Well, I only got German TV in 2000 (only Austrian before that, it certainly wasn't on there). It probably wasn't shown later, I guess? But you are right, there are totally German DVD sets. Strange. Maybe I confused that with another show?

My point that it and Frasier never caught on here in the same way as it did in the US still stands, though.

For what it's worth, my first Doctor Who episode was the season 5 episode with Vincent Van Gogh, and I'd say it did a good job getting me to want to watch more.
