To be fair, I'm laughing more at this than any OTHER comic.

I can't stop reading this. Most of them are just bad jokes, but every one in a while there's one that's either genuinely funny, or so off the mark that it's hilarious.

I don't know if I would call it the worst strip EVER. Some of them are kind of clever, actually.

A lot of the jokes start repeating after a while.

I think this is my favorite one so far:

I imagine this is the sort of stuff a pastor or priest or something would find funny.

Oh god some of these are so bad:

But hey, every once in awhile there's a gem:

I'm still enjoying this more than Penny Arcade!

This is a real comic strip? Like, in papers? Nearly all comic strips are awful* but this one is just...wow. It's like Close to Home: it's trying desperately to fill the void that The Far Side left, but it's so conventional and boring that it can never truly succeed.

*Obviously, Get Fuzzy, Pearls Before Swine, Dilbert (sometimes), Non Sequitur, Doonesbury, and Foxtrot don't count. But that's pretty much it.

Non Sequitor guy turned out to be a self-righteous asshole on an anti-webcomics crusade, and I think Pearls Before Swine and Get Fuzzy can be a little over-rated. Doonesbury and Foxtrot are the only sure bets anymore.

Honestly, that's not that big of a deal to me. 99% of webcomics are garbage so whatever.

Okay now you're being ridiculous. Get Fuzzy maybe but Pearls Before Swine is the only truly funny comic strip, if you ask me.

On a random note, my local paper does a "what's your favorite strip?" poll every year, and the Family Circus has won every year they've done it. My question is HOW THE HELL DOES THAT HAPPEN?!

The only people who read the newspaper comics are the very young and the very old, both being The Family Circus's primary audience.

I feel like Pearls has lost it's way. More rat and pig. Less boring stupid crap with the alligators.

There isn't a newspaper comic strip that's worth reading, and here's why: you can't swear in newspaper comics. Okay, that's not 100% accurate, but Bill Watterson was the last good newspaper cartoonist and he's been dead for years.

The title Chuckle Bros. is amusing, because it makes you think that there's two people involved in its production: one to come up with the terrible jokes, and another to produce the abysmal, sub-amateur artwork.

That comic strip isn't as bad as CAD

Or that thing about the dog that's a metaphor for transgenderism

Or Family Circus

I agree with this, but the alligators/Zebra is still 100% better than the rest of the strips out there.

Plus, everyone knows that Guard Duck is the secret best thing about that strip. Danny Donkey and Angry Bob are pretty close to the secret best thing though.

The Comics Curmudgeon single-handedly re-ignited my interest in newspaper comics.

I always like snarky sites/blogs with genuine enthusiasm for the subject matter.

Bill ain't dead! He just wants to be left alone, preferably forever.

When I saw the thread title, I thought someone had made a comic based on these guys:

1. Bill Watterson is not dead (disregard this correction if you were joking). He's just a recluse on par with J.D. Salinger.

2. While Calvin and Hobbes was the best of the best, there have been a number of very solid newspaper comics in its wake. Zits was fantastic for a good many years before its material started to get dry, Get Fuzzy is much the same adjusted for being a few years younger than Zits, Pearls Before Swine is clever and charming. And while Foxtrot has gone beyond a more preferable expiration date, it stayed quite relevant and humorous for a good omany years after Watterson left the page. And while these are the gems, there at least a handful of other newspaper comics that are at least no more middling than the many webcomics out there.

3. As someone who very much enjoys swearing in his own works and the works he reads, that's hardly the key element holding back newspaper comics from being good. For every newspaper comic out there that has lousy content because of being overly chaste and censor-conscious, there are about fifty moronic webcomics that think curse words and tits make a suitable substitute for quality writing.

4. You folks are crazy. This Chuckle Bros. is definitely run-of-the-mill. It's middling. It's unremarkable. It's trying admirably if unsuccessfully to fill the enormous hole left by Gary Larson. But it is hardly the worst comic out there. You folks need to educate yourselves.

Hell no what is wrong with you. You continue to remain on my This Person Puzzles Me list.

And mostly true Shawn, but I think Doonesbury gets away with an awful lot. People still throw little fits and complain but there's been swearing, people in bed together, drugs, violence, et cetera. Roland Hedley's Twitter feed is also something pretty special.
