NYT Has Bought Wordle (Wordle Thread)

I cuss you bad
If I recall correctly, AROMA was the next word on original Wordle. NYT just deleted a word, they didn't replace it.

One of my favorite parts of Wordle is seeing people complain about it, so now I'm sad that they didn't keep agora just to see people angry about "agora" and "aroma" in succession.

Wordle 256 4/6

🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜
🟨🟨🟨⬜🟨
🟨🟨🟨🟨🟩
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

That was a weird one, I've never had so many correct letters in the wrong order before.

I’m not big on wordle or most word games, but this wordle derivative really gets me going.

Introducing: Poeltl - the NBA player guessing game, named after a rather obscure player with a funny name. It iadmittedly rather impossible unless you’re a big basketball nut, or are referencing NBA rosters. Which is probably close to none of you but hey! Just in case:

In it, your objective is to guess which current NBA player is the player of the day. You can type any player’s name, there’s no character limits. The text field will autocomplete and give options so you don’t have to know exact spellings or full names to play. The clues then are based on the players stats. If the player you guessed is wrong but has some similarities like the same height or team or division, it’ll give you a green box, and a yellow one for being close. If your basketball knowledge could Stump the Schwab, it’s just a matter of then playing process of elimination.

Today I guessed DeAaron Fox as my first guess. That wasn’t the right player, but the info feedback narrowed down the field a lot. The player of the day wasn’t from the Kings but does play in the Pacific Division, is a Guard, is taller than Fox’s height by only two or less inches, is younger than Fox by only two or less years, and whose player number was smaller than Fox’s by only a few digits. That was enough to narrow the candidates down from about 500 or so, down to like 5 or 6 players. There is an easy mode too where at any time you can click an option box and show the player’s silhouette. Something my friends resort to but I try to avoid.

I deleted all the cookies off my phone, forgetting this would lose me my wordle history. This might be the end of my time with wordle.

This is so great. I used to know the rosters really well but couldn't do this now. Bah!

This seems cool - I would love a version for baseball, I know nothing about basketball.

Today's WorLdle is wack. I ended up getting it on guess 2, but only because I quickly figured out what *kind* of thing it was and went to look up which of such things might be considered a valid answer. (Don't forget it includes territories, as shown in the entry box fill text, but even so you'll probably have to look this one up unless your knowledge of such places is extensive...)

I'm really glad someone else is playing this! I'm learning so much from it and have been having a great time.

My spouse guessed Seychelles which I'd never even heard of but got us really close location-wise. Still had no idea and didn't get it, but ultimately I didn't even recognize the answer so not too bothered by it.

I started out guessing something in French Polynesia which told me I was in the wrong half of the world, then just looked up coral atolls that are Territories and the right answer popped up pretty quickly.

Back in original wordle - sucky news for me. So as I’d reported previously, because I’d never reloaded the page on my phone I was still playing original-word-list wordle from the original site. I missed several days then did today’s and… it lost all my stats and history. Reloaded to see if that’d help and now I’m on the NYT version with no history. Booooo.

Lately my partner and I have been getting different Worldle puzzles (the geography one) despite checking that we’re running it on the same site and refreshing everything. Weird. I wonder if it’s pulling from a total list and changes if you miss days. There’s only so many countries and territories after all. (Honestly I could do without the bullshit teensy islands, but then a lot of the larger countries are trivial so I suppose it’s only fair.)

I like Warmle much more than Fibble.

It is kinda weird though how Warmle feels even easier than standard Wordle. I gotta wonder if anyonebody well-versed in information theory can figure out how much more information per guess you get in Warmle. (I haven't scored worse than 4 yet FWIW.)

Well, in Wordle a grey guess knocks out one letter for all 5 positions, but in Warmle it knocks out seven for one position, so that’s a leg up right there I guess.
