Not a Christmas song, but I think it still fits the spirit of the season. If not, at least this is Aenglish from the Danelaw as she ought to be spoke: "fire and sleet and candle-leeğht" and "to Whinny-muir thou comest at last."

The Pentangle is somehow less than the sum of its parts (both Jansch and Renbourn are better alone or in duet), but I still like this song; the best track off its album musically and lyrically is "House Carpenter", with "The Cuckoo" next behind, because Jacqui McShee is a ravishing acrobat and sings it with such piercing pride that she would fain seem a bird herself. "The meeting was a pleasure, but the courting was a woe."

I miss the guys who did the mellowmas posts. But even though they no longer blog about weird christmas songs, they at least introduced me to this, which they described as being delivered by a "muppet chorus" which is extremely accurate
