Numbersdome: A Fight To the Bitter West End!

Labyrinth turns a corner but Kamen Rider and Rocky Horror are tied.

And since no one broke yesterday's tie, my coin flip says Frozen moves on.

Match 27
It's a match up of 50s style tough guys. First @Exposition Owl plays it Cool from West Side Story. The scene takes plays after the death of Jets leader Riff and the new leader, Ice, advises everyone to calm down and play it cool before the next rumble. Against it is @Purple 's pick of Dentist! from Little Shop of Horrors. The dentist's office was actually going to have a nastier look with grime (appropriate for a skid row office) and blood splatter but test audiences responded poorly to it so in the final film it looks a lot nicer.

Match 28
We are nearing the end of the first round but we are getting some classic film openers. First is the cult hit and, along with the Warriors, the inspiration for every beat 'em up video game Streets of Fire and @Purple 's pick of Nowhere Fast. The song opens up the film and is sung by Ellen Aim and the Attackers right before Ellen is kidnapped by biker gang the Bombers. And you know they are dangerous because the leader is Willem Dafoe! We also have the Rainbow Connection from @WildcatJF , the song that opens up The Muppet Movie. The song was actually an Oscar contender but lost to "It Goes Like It Goes" from Norma Rae and the Muppets wouldn't get that Oscar until "Man or Muppet", though that year, the Muppets were competing almost exclusively with themselves and Rio, an animated movie no one talks about.

Cool Rainbow

I saw the 2021 Spielberg update of West Side Story for the first time recently, and I thought it was as good or better than the original in almost every way. The treatment of the song “Cool” was one of the few exceptions. I really love the choreography of this number from the 1961 version: the way it conveys a sense of barely-contained violence that could burst out at any moment. I really urge you to watch the whole video here rather than just listening to the music. It’s well worth your time.

It's also pretty blatantly the inspiration for the opening scene (and maybe whole deal) of Bubblegum Crisis! For a movie that basically nobody watched in the U.S., it apparently REALLY left an impact on cool Japanese media creators.

Anyway, Nowhere Dentist

Little Shop of Horrors makes a sale and The Muppet Movie wants to go to Hollywood, too! Wait up, guys!

Match 29
@Daikaiju rides the Rollercoaster! from Phineas and Ferb. It's the show's first musical number from the first episode of this popular Disney series. Against it is I'm Just Ken from Barbie, as selected by @WildcatJF. It's actually a big night for this song as it is an Oscar contender and there will be a big performance of it tonight.

Match 30

Last match of the round! First we have Konya wa Hurricane from Bubblegum Crisis via @Purple . This song opens the 8 episode direct to video series in a future Tokyo with human looking robots. Against it is @Pombar 's One Day More from Les Misérables. The show and the song have been translated into 21 languages, including Japanese, Hebrew, Icelandic, Norwegian, Czech, Polish, Spanish, and Estonian, and there have been 31 cast recordings featuring the song.

Lesbians in power armor dealing with Boomer Crimes along with roller coasters being present? Well that makes it real easy to do the image-y vote-y thing I do.

Slight note. "Rollercoaster!" Is actually from a latter episode where they decide to redo the first episode as a musical.

One More Rollercoaster

Barbie doesn't think math is hard and Les Miserables says "Viva la revolución".

Round 2
Match 31
@Exposition Owl has the Blues, Brothers (and Sisters) for Think! The Soul Food Café, where Aretha Franklin is depicted as singing, was Nate's Deli on Chicago's famed Maxwell Street. But don't go looking for it; it was torn down to make some university dorms. I can't imagine @Violentvixen is feeling Les Misérables about her pick of The Confrontation. There are elements from The Work Song from the prologue in this one, the part that begins with Valjean toiling as a prisoner.

Match 32

@Kirin is a fan of the Muppet Movie. Can You Picture That? I can. The song was also featured in the special Muppets Go Hollywood, made to promote the Muppet Movie and Can You Picture That is the only full song from the movie in the special. Meanwhile @Daikaiju goes across the Steven Universe for Giant Woman. Aimee Man guest starred on the episode and while she did sing a small bit of lyrics as a reprise near the end of the episode (not a full song, just a sung line read), she doesn't get to join in on a full song until Steven Universe: The Movie where she sings a duet with Ted Leo (and wrote a song for Spinel)

Confrontation and Can You Picture That?

Though like Violentvixen it pains me to vote against Aretha and the Blues Brothers
